Sunday's referee

Comments (18)

I've just seen that the ref for Sunday is Steve Bennett, so I did a litlle digging to have a look at his performance this season. He hasn't officiated the pinkies at all and us only once ? away at Spurs. He hasn't given a red card at all, but averages nearly 4 yellows per game. Against Spurs he booked Peanut, Screech and Tim. They had Assou-Ekotto booked. What price on his first red card of the season on Sunday?

OMG - Bennett was the guy who sent off Timmy a couple of seasons ago ... for taking his shirt off when he scored against Man City... !

We feared the worst from Howard Webb last Monday and, with a couple of grumbles, he did OK. He might have given them a penalty (I?m sure Keane?s dive saved us) but he didn?t bow to the home crowd.

I?ve always thought that the biggest danger we face from a ref is that he will go into the game thinking that the shite are ?natural? winners and we can?t possibly succeed (Clive Thomas for example). So unless Bennett screws up badly on Sunday, our own performance this week could be a big help in itself.

Now I feel that much better that Screech is not playing as he would positively have gotten sent off.

Can't imagine that Bennett will be worse than Clive Thomas, Graham Poll, Mark Clattenburg or Mike Riley.

Time will tell.

Didn't he send off Mascherano for being a gobshite in that hammering they took at Old Trafford last season?

He?ll book Fellaini in the first minute. Nailed-on.

Even though to do it he?ll have to clamber up into the Directors? Box Pat Cash style. And he will.
You watch...

Bennett is one who is easily influenced by big names in his ear. Shearer, Terry, Beckham have all done it with him in the past to get their way. If Stevie GBH plays expect him to be on the case from the start, otherwise Carragher will be in there. It’s an accepted tactic of their’s. We have to play the same game as these tossers even though its not the Everton way. I’d get gentleman Pip onto it to become our official whinging twat. It would be like having a new signing.

Tony, top comment.

Tom, I was referring to it being Mr Bennett?s first red card of the season, not ours.

I wish I hadn?t looked now ? I?m starting to get really worried.

The person we most have to fear on Sunday is not anyone wearing red but one MR S BENNETT....!!

He has never given us ANYTHING... ANYWHERE.... ANYTIME... don?t think it?s gonna change on Sunday despite him having sent off Mascherano before...don’t forget that was at OLD TRAFFORD so read into that what you will.

I think this twat (and that?s what he is a grade 1 twat...) has had a grudge against Everton ever since he was criticised for sending of Tim Cahill for scoring ( & celebrating) a goal over FOUR yeras ago.

Since then he?s sent off Moyes (at West Brom) and has made numerous bad decisions against us in every game he?s had us in since.

As a say beware... STEVE FUCKING BENNETT

I was hoping like hell we might get Phil Dowd. I like this bloke because he doesn't seem scared to give free kicks agsinst the ?big boys? ? and yellows and reds for that matter (see the Chelsea game). He rightly sent Gerrard off a couple of seasons back against us when many would have procrastinated.

Although I don?t relish the prospect of Bennett being the ref for Sunday?s match, as he is a rather officious official, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with his performance during our match at White Hart Lane.

I thought Bennett is a manure supporter.

I hope he doesn’t ’make up’ with the RS for the Mascherano sending.

I remember though he sent Roy Keane off for bitchslapping Shearer but I suppose he couldn't get out of that one. He was totally correct to send of that Mascherano and anything Andy Gray said about it is bollocks.

In retrospect, regarding my earlier post about Dowd, he evened it up by sending off AVDM for an elbow that normally wouldn't even get penalised these days.

It doesn't matter who we get, cos even the supposed best still shaft us (Collina).

Unfortunately I missed out on getting a ticket in the away end for Sunday's derby, even though I have attended 2 away games, Boro and Wigan, and also have a season ticket in the paddock.

However, I managed to get hold of 2 tickets in the home section, for my cousin and myself. One problem.......the tickets are in the Kop.

Now I don't mind for one minute sitting in Anfield but in all the previous derbies I have been to there, I have sat in the Anfield Road and the Main Stand.

Anyone got a story/idea of what I'm to expect????

Make us proud Sean and wear your Everton kit amongst the tossers. I’ll be watching the game on tv in sunny Western Australia and look forward to seeing you in the Kop standing out like dogs balls. Do us proud mate.

Sean, I was a 15 years old when I first went to the derby at Anfield. I went with some mates who were redshites, wore my scarf and everything.

Must say the generosity showed me after about 3 minutes was fantastic. When it kicked off I could hardly see anything, but then suddenly a circle opened up and I was in the middle of it (with a perfect view) I would like to take this opportunity to thank all loves loveable reds for that, oh and for the spitting on me, and punching and kicking me as I made my way to where all the other blues were.
Mind, this is the same set of supports who have been involved in two tragedies, yet the last time they were in a major final, stole tickets from one another and forced entry all over again. It stories like that that separate them from us.

Somebody above mentioned Clattenberg. Does anybody know what happened to him? The last I heard he was suspended for business problems... a few weeks after Moyes got off with his comments about him (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). I?d love to know.
