Arteta Missing?

Comments (60)

When was the last time we went into a derby with anything resembling a full strength side? I am hearing now Arteta is doubtful for tomorrow.

Have to wonder if this rumour has any merit... or is Moyesey doing his version of mindgames on Rafa? Let's hope so! It's not showing up yet on any of the reputable news sources, so I hope it's bullshit.

Castillo replaces Arteta. Awful news to be honest.

If this is true it makes a win tomorrow all the sweeter.... stay positive... it?s eleven v eleven. It?s not the size of your transfer budget or the "global reach of your brand" or your supposedly "world-class" players in every position that wins games ? it?s positive attitude, smart tactics, determined application, skill, nerve, fearlessness... qualities that will trump shallow reputations and expose the faint of heart. Courage, always; now is the time, we have the swine on the ropes, let?s finish them off...

Rumour seems to be growing by the hour on various sites. If it's true then I believe we?re in trouble as there is no one else in the squad who can take control and make us play on the deck.

Play for the draw and hope to God if it's true then its only a week or so out. But rib injuries normally take 2-3 weeks.

Back on to my quarterley gripe ? we seem to take ages to get players back. Today United fielded a left back (Brazilian) who dislocated his shoulder back in mid-Sep and has played last two games for their reserves ? how is it that Lars is still probably 2 weeks away??

I have had e-mails and text messages all day from fellow toffees about tomorrow's game. It is proposed that when LFC start singing thier song, ALL the 6,000 toffee men and women will turn thier backs on them. Wouldn't that look great on the TV?

This is conjecture on top of rumour, so we do have to wait for tomorrow. If he does have a rib injury, however, that would mean the Arsenal game too, at least.

Let?s just hope it's pre-match hysteria.

Connor ? that makes a bit more sense. Moyes would, I think, prefer him to play against Arsenal with a chance of 3 PL points, than risk him in the Cup, no matter who we are playing. And it could all be blood and guts tomorrow anyway.

How did the rumour suddenly end up in a fight between Arteta and Hibbert?! Let's face it boys 'n girls, does it matter what team we put out with the amount of luck they get against us? Let's just roar on whoever plays and make those red bastards squirm whether we win/lose or draw... starting with turning our backs on them a la Juve!

Do you not think the club would rather play down a training ground spat than go public? Especially before a crucial derby game? And especially with all the crap in the newspapers about Man City and Arsenal regarding Arteta? I’m sure it is just a spat and this kind of thing happens in training and is not an indication of a dent in team spirit. Hibbert should know better though before such a big game.

If Arteta played against Hull with the rib and has re-injured it, surely he could play tomorrow as he played against Hull with the initial injury?

Assuming this rumour has legs, are we also to assume that Hibbo surrendered his soul to the dark side and deliberately took Mikel out? Another and more mysterious rumour put it down to a Kuwait petrodollar plot linked to Benithus's contract and Gerrard?s court case.

Hibbo was taken into custody and will appear at the Old Bailey alongside David Moyes.

Moyes's part in the dastardly scheme is unclear but witnesses say that he set up a training ground excercise that deliberately put Arteta in harm's way.

Bill Kenwright is under sedation after being found wandering the streets babbling "watch this space, watch this space".

Then again, it could all be a load of BS.

Just heard it's true.

Moyes is mates with Tony Pullis of Stoke and he agreed to send over Rory Delap today to Finch Farm to help Hibbo and Neville with throw-ins.

Arteta got the sulks and told Moyes as well as taking all the free kicks he wanted to take all the throw-ins from now on. Moyes reluctantly agreed and the first time Arteta practised with Delap he pulled a muscle in his rib-cage.

Apparently Neville got the sulks but has now been told he can take all the direct free-kicks since Arty is injured.

Tim Cahill was quoted on the OS at 18:09 today saying - "It doesn?t matter what they change ? we?ll always keep the same team and play the best we can." Now this could have been said days ago, and means nothing for tomorrow. But it is evidence of a kind.

Dan Gosling could do a very good job. But the idea of loosing Segundo Castillo on them is starting to appeal to me.

Bollocks to rumours... it doesn?t change a thing. The way we are going to win tomorrow is through sheer determination and will to win; it doesn?t matter who is there, and is anyone stupid enough to think Hibbert breaks his own player?s ribs? Secondly is Sam Fox really a lesbian?

Castillo may have the ability to play at this level, but most players need 5-6 games to adjust to the pace of the English game. I hope the boy's (match-) fit enough to do himself justice.

Losing Arteta is a real blow but it's just the latest in a catalogue of setbacks we?ve suffered. We can either feel sorry for ourselves, or we can tear into these twats and make it even more uncomfortable for them than we did last Monday.

History is littered with players who have made a real name for themselves after being thrown into battle at the last minute.

Come on son, make a name for yourself!

Sorry lads, but he really is out for at least 2 matches (verified yesterday). All the suggestions regarding how Mikel got his injury are wide of the mark, though. This is what happened: Mikel attended a birthday party for a friends son 2 days ago (not Tony Hibbert’s son). During the event, Mikel was giving the wee kids piggy-back rides. At some point, he tripped over one of the little darlings and stumbled into a coffee table smashing his rib-cage in the process. It was just a freak accident.

ART ATTACK

Everton star Mikel Arteta has had a freak injury scare in the buildup to today’s derby. The Spanish ace took a nasty kick in the ribs from a team-mate in training and needed to have a quick check to make sure that nothing was broken. Boss David Moyes is confident that Arteta will be OK but he will be monitored before kick-off just in case he is still experiencing any pain.

It would be a huge shame if Mikel showed any signs of injury or - even worse - was out. He is flying at the moment and it would be a crushing blow. Let?s hope we can patch him up and he can play through the pain barrier. It would just be our luck if he failed to make it. With the same team - we have a massive chance.

If the Yak had been fit and picked up a freak injury on the eve of the game, we’d be shitting it all the same, and the same goes for Fellaini.

The fact is, we were all optimistic in the knowledge of both these out well before the game!

Everton are a team and not a select group of individuals. It could turn out that not having Arteta gives the rest of the team that little extra boost needed to turn this shower of cunts into ground!

We get knocked down, but we get up again!

What I’d say to Segundo is be agressive, put yourself about. He’s a mini tank, he needs to use his physique in games like this.

He always seems a bit laid back to me, he needs to add some agression to his game if he wants to make it in England. Good luck to him...
