How good is Tim Cahill

Comments (8)

How is it that a man so small in stature from a country not known for creating football greats, can rise above and embarrass expensive defences on a regular basis. It stuns me every time I see him do it, he seems to have an uncanny skill for positioning, and jumping around the box. Nearly always out-heading men far taller than him. Is there a better player in the world at this. I don't know?

For a man who is essentially a midfielder to score so many goals is, to say the least, priceless. Also amazing is how little he cost.

His influence on the team's results cannot be underestimated. When injured, like at the start of the season, we struggle; when fit, his presence makes us the equal of any team. When you think that he cost a fraction of some of the worthless strikers we come across, week by week, it really drives home how prodigious he is. His hard work and never-say-die attitude is what we want and need at Everton.

We will never have the spending power of Chelsea, Man Utd Arsenal or Liverpool but, if David Moyes can unearth gems like Tim every now and then, we will be continue to have a team deserving our support.

We were unlucky last night. A moment of brilliance cost us the win, but we can be proud of our great team. Unlike Liverpool, who feel they have the god-given right to win every game, Everton supporters know only too well that it's the rise and falls, misery and ecstasy that make watching their football team so tantilizing.

I for one am proud to be an Evertonian today.

Tim is indeed great but I disagree with your sign-off ? I would be far far prouder if we'd beaten them, like we should. It was not luck; David Moyes himself correctly stated that we made key mistakes in the last couple of minutes that led to the goal, brilliantly taken though it was.

The only explanation i can think of as to how tim can leap so incredibly high must be because he is part human part Kangaroo. It is no fluke or coincidence, as he does it on such a regular basis consistently. It also seems he is able to do it against any opposition no matter what the standard, in fact u can almost guarantee he will score against the ?big 4? and in the biggest games, which would make him a world class player in the heading department. If it wasn?t for his injury problems in recent seasons he would be up there with the likes of Lampard and Gerrard as top goal scoring midfielders with out doubt, and with less quality of service which makes it all the more remarkable.

The bouncing blue kangaroo is class. My only concern is with the continuing lack of funds how long will is be before the star players feel they could achieve more else where. I feel D.M is the most under rated manger not only in British football but world football however theirs only so long he can continue to punch above his wait. I fully support B.K but now more than ever he needs to find investment before it’s to late. COYB

Wow, I can’t beleive you just catagorized Arsenal as a team with money, and an expensive defense(Assuming you meant we bought all our defenders...). But just to name a few players we made into who they are today, Toure, Clichy, Fabregas and Adebayor. And we made Cole into what he is, so Gallas can’t really be put under bought.. Not gonna list Henry and others like Walcott, because I admit they were pretty expensive(10mil), but if you notice, when we make signings like that we struggle to buy another player in the next windows and we sell players sometimes to try and buy someone. Kudos on the game yesterday, you guys played great and I’ll be honest and say we barely deserved anything from that. Anyways I think everton deserves more credit than they get.

Great post. You're dead right Paul, Tiny Tim is a revelation.

As for the last comment from jack. I think you may well have a point about the Arse, but they do have more spending power than Everton, and have in the past spent bigger. Wenger is a shrewd manager but he has had some poor signings in his time.

Come on you blues.

Mark and Jack,

Of course you are right. I have huge admiration for Arsene Wenger. He has built successive sides that play football the way that the older brethern amongst us believe it should be played (school of science - as coined by Steve Bloomer, ex Arsenal if I’m not wrong).

So we should leave Arsenal out of the ’big 4 ’ mercenary debate. Let’s concentrate on ourselves.

We are doing great at present and if we had any sort of squad, we’d be doing even better. The only reason we didn’t get 3 points last night was because for the last 10 minutes, our lads were out on their feet; no movement, no energy. just sinking deeper and giving the ball away far too cheaply.

However, we can’t blame them as they were knackered after putting in much more than a shift twice at Anfield in the previous two weeks.

I really fear for these lads if they aren’t given a break. the only way that can happen is if we sign some new players and quick! But we must realise that we just don’t have the funds so ... buckle up and enjoy the ride. Its going to get bumpy.

Mark, absolute crap. Barcelona’s youth academy made Cesc Fabregas what he is today. Adebayor and Toure were bought in their 20s. Gallas can be put under bought, you paid the value of Ashley Cole for him.
