Coleman Agrees Switch

Seamus Coleman has agreed a move to everton for £150,000. The right fullback has only played League of Ireland but has been nothing short of a revelation. His bombing overlaps and propensity to take on a player have seen him rewarded with a call up and regular starting berth in the Under 21 set up.
The leap to the Premiership for a lot of Irish players in the past few years has been pretty exceptional and this guy has all the traits to make it. the big stumbling block for a lot of Irish players in the past has been the difference in pace but Coleman's main asset is his turn of foot so this holds no worries.
Defensively he may be suspect but I'm elated at this signing overall. He should be pressing hard come August.

Yeh terrific signing, another right back, just what we need!!
I hope he becomes the player he has the potential to be, but lets face it, if there is any position in the squad that didnt need addressing, its right back!! We have Hibbert, Neville and the danish fella coming back. Also, Gosling, Jags and Yobo could do a job there! Just seems strange! All I can say is that he must be good...
Why didn’t we go for Derbyshire?
Not on OS. Is this still speculation?
Aide, Can you please expand on your comments.
Are you happy to see that good young talent are now at last willing to come to Everton that will allow us to be able to build for the future.
Or are you just taking the piss like a lot of other negative people that come on this forum and can never see anything good done by Everton football club no matter what.
Try smiling we are doing brilliant with what resources we have, a lot of other clubs would give their right arm to have the spirit and commitment we have.
Was about to ask the same thing, Can only see the story on the Daily Mirror site. Hardly official.

"Defensively he may be suspect"
You might as well have said he has no legs.

However extratime.ie have learned that the Irishman’s future is less than clear. Everton Youth Academy Assistant, Jonathan Williams, had "not heard anything" about such a transfer when contacted by us this morning. Dermot Brannigan, Sligo Rovers Media Officer, informed us that there had been no signing yet and that "he was at training this morning." This is obviously contrary to reports from English newspapers claiming, today, that a deal has already been struck.
This is the truth i play with Sligo Rovers reserves ok so no club has made an official bid for seamie so its all speculation. he was in training this morning and every other morning. I hope to god everton do make a bid, he is some player for a just gone twenty year old he has bags of pace and is fearless. a total professional on and off the pitch.
I thought a forward was needed?
I don’t know why DM didn’t look to the USA for a loan since they are on their season break and top players seem glad to be loaned to Europe for the match practice, e.g. Beckham in Milan, Donovan in Munich.
There must be other forwards there worth a try, e.g. Ching (almost Chang!)
@Dan McKie
Another right-back *is* exactly what we need. It’s the weakest position in our squad. Neville is first choice there when not required in center mid, Hibbert just isn’t good enough - useless going forward and limited to risky last-ditch tackles in defence. Gosling, Jagielka and Yobo are simply not right backs. Coleman will give us competition for Jacobsen when fit.
Fingers crossed this kid is another one of Moyes’ incredible bargain buys from the lower divisions.
I have to say I am as bad as the next person when it comes to transfer speculation, "We should have signed this person", "How can they afford so and so" and "Why aren’t we looking at players/countries like this" I think the reality is although Moyes is a ditherer we do have a scouting system (let’s face it if we didn’t consider taking someone from America during their off-season we are idiots) however due to financial constraints, whether these are indeed as severe as I believe or simply down to pathetic attemps from Blue Bill to attract investment, Everton simply do not have the financial means to get any player who commands a smallish fee or decent wages.

Is Hibbert never going to get any credit?
Playing the finest football of his career and people still think he’s third choice - behind some mediocre dane who’s played 7 games in two years, and a 20 year old from Sligo Rovers who is ’defensively suspect’...
Please.
Hibbert is a great battler and I don?t question his loyalty or commitment, but face it, he is a limited player. When was the last time he ventured over the halfway line? When was the last time he even picked out a forward pass?
Compare his contribution to that of Baines or Lescott at left-back!

Mr Wallace,
Try watching last nights games in full...you’ll find you answers in there...
"Defensively he may be suspect"
You might as well have said he has no legs.
Now thats funny!
Dave Wallace - Hibbert has been getting forward for weeks in every game we’ve played apart from maybe the cup game against the RS - what have you been watching exactly?!
His crossing has improved greatly and he’s currently playing the best football of his life.
Ciaran,
Hibbert is the weak link in the Everton team, let alone the defence. He tries hard, but as already stated he is prone to last ditch tackles. No doubt he gives it his all, and he’s a true professional, but I honestly belive that he’s no more than a squad player in a team that is/should be challenging for a European spot each season.
Our back four has been imense lately, and whether you like it or not, Hibbo is a part of that back four.
He reminds me of Neville when he was younger, no one would have imagined Neville becoming a leader of men and a good Everton captain, Hibbo in 5 years anyone? He certainly doesn’t give up, that’s for sure!

Hibbert is the current weak link in the team?
Na...not having that. That’s pure rubbish.
Currently Osman is the weak link...
In a complete turnaround from recent weeks, I wholeheartedly agree with Ciaran on this - Hibbo has been outstanding lately, and Osman has been piss poor. I like Ossie but he’s been weak in every way lately - I shudder when he ’shoots’ for goal.
if this is true, you gotta laugh - no forwards yet time to sign a young, unknown fullback - terrific management by the club (Moyes).
Lets face it, he will play only 1 or 2 senior team games for us over the next 2 years.
We have more pressing needs.
Wakey wakey boys, in order for us to kick on we need to bring in players with greater potential/skill than Hibbert. Unfortunately, we have no money so this is the way we have to do it. Moyes has shown his ability to find good young players and if he has managed to pull this deal off which seems uncertain at the moment then I for one will be delighted.
Hibbert is the best we have at the moment at right back and is much improved; however, if we want to crack the top 4 we need a better footballer at right back, end off...
He has not played pro football. Sligo are similar to a conference standard. He may be promising but so are all our youngsters. He does not represent a strengthening move to the first team... We have just let Ruddy and Kissock go... one to Crewe and the other on loan to Accrington. How is it that we can let people go and not bring people IN?? We need NAME Premier League standard re-inforcements otherwise it will be another burn out if we are not careful.
Shane
As you have seen him play can you confirm that Coleman cuts the mustard?
I?ll start the car...
Trev, would you consider the Gosling signing a mistake, i.e. an unknown who cost next to nothing now pushing for a first team place?
Sure we would all love a Moutinho or a Vagnar Love but it ain;t gonna happen we have no money, but hey we are riding high in 6th and who know where we might finish! Come on, Seamus, let's see you torment some oppostion fullbacks with that electric pace of yours!!!!
Trevor, i wouldn?t agree with your comment about the league of ireland being conferance standard. Remeber Drogheda united missed out in the champions league against Dynamo Kiev by losing on away goals and St Pats beat Elfsborg and lost 2-0 to Hertha on agg. In the last few years there?s also been wins against Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Grethna (5-0) and (4-0). All I?m saying is don?t under estimate the league. Remember Roy Keane and all current irish players played there. In fairness Moyes?s best signing have been from lower leagues like this.
Well Kevin Doyle made some step up from "Conference football" trevor
I agree with ciaran, osmen is clearly the weak link and has been since he got into the side seasons ago, you can count his good performances on one hand this season.
Hibo you know what your going to get, a solid defencive minded defender, nothing more nothing less Osmen on the other hand can go missing and be bullied on occasion and often reminds me of a tuble weed drifting up and down the pitch slightly behind play, never realy attacking and never realy defending, always too lake to get involved with either.
I think Moyes got the big fella in to replace osmen long term. I think with a fully fit squad Yakubu would replace Osmen.
I’d welcome another RB. In fact a new right hand side to the team. Imagine the link up play between Pienaar and Baines but on both flanks. We’d be some force with a pacey winger and a new right back. If this Seamus lad can help us with that and turns out to be another Moyes bargain i’d welcome him with open arms!
Hibbert was to blame for yesterdays equalizer.
He’d gone walk about and was simply standing in midfield right next to Phil Neville as Osman made the challenge before they hoofed the ball forward.
We were 3 v 3 at the back and the ball fell right into the area where Hibbert would of just headed the ball.
He made no effort to get back.
@sean
Seamie is a top player, given the right opportunities and coaching...he could easily break in to the first team and keep his place, bags of pace, great feet, and a hardy and determined fella you'll get. If he gets a 2 week trial with Celtic first team we are not talking about a average player. Regular U21 international only player in the squad who plays in the Eircom League that is saying something itself.
Of course we need some new firepower up front, still, it seems ridiculous to read comments knocking this (alleged) signing. If there’s one thing that Moyes does well, it’s picking up players on the cheap and getting the best out of them. The youngsters in our squad have been a credit to us when called upon this season. They?ve all stepped up well, albeit sooner than anyone would have liked. Fair play to Moyes for getting in another young prospect and building for the future. There’s nothing wrong with another right-back, look how many Man Utd have got who can play there.
Hibbert has been good defensively, and he has crossed quite well, but his distribution is, imo, terrible. The amount of times he gave the ball away in the derbies was incredible, it invites pressure onto the defence that can be avoided and will eventually lead to us conceding.
Gosling was well known before we got him and I'm not knocking the Coleman signing (if we get him), but I'm not that excited just yet. I just dont blindly believe all this poverty talk.
If we have no money, it's a mystery, other teams without rich benefactors have been active this month and we have been motionless... every day there is paper talk about this player and that moving around between OTHER teams but not us. Some are false BUT some are true... Our squad is too small and that's a definite fact.
Haha, hilarious from Everton Football Club. Despite our obvious need for a Forward we instead sign another Right Back. What's that half a dozen Right Backs at the club now. And doesn't that sum it all up? Defensively he may be suspect. That's really going to excite me now and think "Wow, potential Champions next season".
How pathetic from EFC. They might as well have signed a Forward from that league for goodness sake. Quite embarrassing I think.
COYB despite this bullshit.
I’ve watched Seamie for a few years now and he is a very special player. Very special. I don’t agree that he is defensively suspect. He’s fast, strong and very intelligent. He’s a great reader of the game and always seems to have time on the ball. I would bet that Seamie will become one of the most highly rated and respected players in the Premier League. David Moyes has landed a big fish for Everton and I expect to see Seamie as a first team regular before the season is out.
The following link will give you a chance to see Seamie in action. He features at about 3.30 mins into the clip. http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7B2cB0V0v4
Right-back is the one position that DOES need addressing! Hibbert and Neville are the only two who look comfortable there, but their quality is rubbish if you?re pushing the top teams. Think about it, you have an established goalie, a centre-back partnership, Baines does a good job at LB, midfield of Arteta, Cahill, Pienaar, Fellaini is pretty good. OK maybe up top you?re a bit light, but a new right fullback is needed, I hope Seamus Coleman can fullfill his promise.
