John Paul Kissock (out on loan)

Comments (17)

I just read our 19-year-old midfielder has been loaned out to Accrington for a month.

I guess he was never going to get a game this season, even with the injuries we have, so good luck to the lad and I hope he comes back having made a good impression!

Yes, it's a pity he's so, er... vertically challenged. But then again, the rough and tumble of League 2 might be the place for him to learn how to scamper around big burly lumbering oafish defenders. Just a pity we don't have so many of them any more in the Prem!

IMO he’s too small for the EPL, if he was that good he’d be in the squad week in week out.
A loan spell at Stanley WILL do him good but as before (when he was a Gretna) he got rave reviews with his performances, but comes back to EFC and BANG back in the ressies.
I’ll get slaughtered for saying these points but thats what this websites all about, opinions.
Sorry JP but thats what i think

Matt is Arteta, cahill,Osmen and Piennar too small then? Size doesnt come into it, how bid was marradona. Although, i would have thought if he was any good we would have seen more of him by now. Moyes knows best and must be keeping hold of him for a reason, id rather that than let him go only to buy him back again in 4 years time for 4-6 mil like some of our other players.

okay Ian, point taken about size but he’s no maradona, SWP, or any other small player for that reason, moyes is keeping him for a reason i’ll give you that, he’s never gonna be a 4-6 mill player ever IMO. the players you mentioned are obviously better than him. He’ll be a revelation in the lower leagues, maybe thats where he’ll end up.
Loan out VDM as well for first team action but having said that he’d rather do fuck all for his wages (perish the thought of ACTUALLY earning his wedge

I bet at the time we let Jags go we didn't think he?d go on to be worth 4 mil, and I bet Sheffield Utd didn't think he'd go on to be our most outstanding defender, probably be worth 3 times that. That's just one example.

I've just read an excellent post on an earlier article saying maybe he's getting loaned out where he'll get games to get some match fitness, so he is ready to step into the fold later this season.

Let's face it, it's sink or swim time for him and with such a thread bare squad and no new signings this is his chance.

What is packed into the physiquet is what matters. Tiny is not rated as tall yet he is 5 -10 physically strong, a good tackler and with a mighty engine. Arteta has great skill with perhaps a less powerful engine aslo a good tackler. Pienaar has great ball skill is fast over the ground also has a good engine and reasonable tackler. Osman has great ball skill, no pace at all, fades in the second half and is a lousy tackler. Maradonna had all the above talents in abundance and though small in stature was built like a brick dunny.

Dick Fearon, I enjoyed your analysis of the traits of our pint sized midfielders...while Mo the ’Fro is more like a yard of ale I’d be interested as to your description of his midfield attributes...

I bet he’s no smaller than Adrian "Inchy" Heath.

@Michael Hunt, Fellaini has a great engine, He gets from box to box with little effort and brings team mates into play. Cool under pressure and like Pienaar and Tiny always presents for a pass from team mates. So far I have not seen him shoot from range so have no idea what kind of shot he may or may not have. His heading ability is similar to that of Peter Crouch. He is good at meeting the ball with his head but lacks power. Front on tackling is OK but gives away a lot of fouls.from behind.

He covers a lot of ground but does not sprint. His style of running may be deceptive so I am not too sure about how fast he really is. He has the attributes needed for him to develop into a very good player of the same mould as Patrick Viera.

I believe the money was well spent and if anything his value has already increased. Do you beg to differ with my critique of the big fellow?

Dick,

Your players analysis is excellent!

Feel free to conduct a short synopsis of each of our 1st 11 - strengths and weaknesses

Just don’t let oppositions managers have it....!

JPK is small, but the first time I saw Pienaar really close-up, I was genuinely stunned.

I remember thinking I?ve never seen such a tiny and..erm..slight-looking footballer.

There is (as my mam used to say) ?nothing of him?.

After the surprise of seeing how tiny he was/is, I couldn?t believe how much he was ?putting himself about?.

Yes ok, he should have "got rid of the fuuckin? thing" on Wednesday night, but I really like Pienaar and to those with really small kids who love football, or to the kids themselves, Peanuts must be a genuine inspiration.

(And a good counter-argument to cartoon alehouse British ?coaches? quick to say "sorry ? too small lad!")

JPK - 5? 10" He must of been waring his mam?s high heels, this lad was designed to run through people's legs and he is good at it!

When Shankly first came to Liverpool he placed ads in local and national papers offering try outs at Melwood to all youngsters who matched certain criteria. At particular ages and positions a minimum weight and height was expected. Example: A 16-year-old full-back needed to be at least 5? 10" and 10 stone. If you did not meet those requirements, don?t bother. Nothing was mentioned about skill or such things. Midfielders such as Pienaar, Osman and JP Kissock would not have got past first base.

Funny thing was that strikers were meant to be among the tallest and heaviest of applicants yet when Shanks was managing Huddersfield the great Denis Law who Shankly proudly claimed as one of his finds would not have had a chance. In Shanks's own words, when he first laid eyes on Denis, The wee lad was 5-foot nothing, cross-eyed and weighed about 5 stone wringing wet.

Beginning with Shankly?s era and continuing up to the present it has seemed to me that RS players in general are usually bigger than ours.

Thanks Dick, I think your player summaries are very accurate. I fully agree on Mo the ?Fro and think he is fast proving a bloody good asset already, though there is bags more to come from him. If he realises his considerable potential I think he will prove a snip at £15m (despite it being an obscene amount for 1 player!)

Interestingly, I have recently read that 3 of the big 4 have the 3 tallest teams in the Prem. Though Aston Villa are ranked 4th from bottom in the average height league and Everton are bottom of the pile ? i.e., we are the shortest team in the Prem.

My own view is, ?If you?re good enough you?re big enough?, but (as in boxing) ?a good big un is better than a good small un?.

I saw JPK play in the SPL last season and yes he isn’t a Harlem Globe Trotter or Maradonna but then again he was only 17/18 years old and still made a good impression playing against some right yard dogs up there. Give the lad a chance and a few years to develop his game which he can only do through getting games under his belt, don’t forget Beckham was loaned out to PNE when he was a kid too and it didnt do him much harm did it? Just wait and see, but from what I’ve seen of him play he’s got skill, decent speed and ball control all of which could well come in handy if potless Bill stays at the helm.

It?s in the eye of the beholder, I thought John Hurst was a lot bigger on the pitch, well he looked as big or bigger than 95% of the players we saw week in week out, Sharpy the same and when I came face to face they were the size of us mere mortals.

As for too small, if a 20-year-old Bobby Collins came along, would we turn him away??

I?ve been telling the wife for years, size doesn?t matter, it?s what you do with it.
