What work permit?

Comments (24)

Just as I thought this thoroughly depressing January transfer window couldn't get any worse for us Everton fans along comes this article: http://www.goal.com/en/news/1707/inter/2009/01/30/1084549/inters-obinna-loaned-to-real-betis

Now I don't want to berate Moyes or Kenwright, more than enough of you do that on here already; however, I would have hoped that Moyes was on the phone to Inter 2 MONTHS ago to try and sort this deal out (maybe he was and it didn't come off ? will give him a little bit of benefit of doubt) surely if he is fine to play in Spain then he is elegible to play for us, last time I looked Spain, Italy and England were all members of the EC?

Now I don't want the moon on a stick, however a player of Obinna's quality who was prepared to join us in the Summer, who can play up front or out wide, is available to loan with an option to buy in the summer for 6 mil euros! and is not being sniffed around by the fat cats surely ticks all boxes!! It's the final kick in the gut for me personally, fingers crossed, Moyes can pull out a big white rabbit on Monday night.

On another note, I thank the boys and Moyes for putting in performance after hard working, gritty in your face performance, If only we could add a little bit of quality here and there to add to that work ethic and team spirit, I truly believe we could be a force to reckon with.

Good greif... more toddlers in the toy store... You wanted him but ya mama said no, and somebody else got him. It's really "the final kick in the gut" for you personally?!? You can't be serious!

Guess I will never understand some fans. But this happens every transfer window without fail. Some people set their hearts and minds on their choice, and then moan and whinge when he doesn't get signed. Incredible!

Dunno Mr Kenrick, I feel a bit gutted cos we could be up there if we had a good striker. Mind you, you are always right so it seems.

Derby have given an unnamed Premier League club permission to speak to highly-rated midfielder Giles Barnes about a possible loan move. I do hope that this is Everton. Although he has only just returned from injury the boy is class.

A friend of mine in who plays in the Everton U18s has told me that he has heard people high up talking about Peter Odemwingie and has heard he could be the one player we will sign before the end of the transfer window. Not exactly sure if it is a loan deal or permanent but there is a chance we will see him playing for Everton before too long. I think he would be a good signing as he has got pace skill and can play as a striker or a winger which is the exactly the type of player we need.

Matt, I’ve seen a rumour that Barnes is off to Fulham on loan. As injury-prone as he is, we need bodies, and I’m a fan of his...

Wes Bray,

Its depressing how can some punters come here and slate the manager, without even checking the rules.

1. Victor Obinna is a Nigerian in order to obtain work permit for UK he should have played at least in 70-75% of the games of his national team in the last 2 years. Everton applied in the summer and were denied subsequently. So it was a no-go. However in Spain and Italy there is no such requirements, there are only quotas for non-EU players.

Strange how Man U can get teenage Brazilians who have barely even kicked a ball, let alone done it for any national side, over here, and we cant get an established club and international player whos been in the EU for the last few years???

Stefan, do you mean players who already play in the EU even though they?re from outside? If not, you?ve lost me...

Looks like Fellaini and Cahill may both miss the Man Utd game according to the official website... In the meantime..we fail to get players on loan while other clubs don't!! WHY? And please don't give me that "They are not the quality we need..."

We have taken players who have long injury records ? even Alan Smith has been freely touted and he cannot get a game at Newcastle when he is fit.

We have no decent replacements for either Fellaini or Cahill and I could add Arteta and Howard too... We are the shoe string club with the Mother Hubbard dilemma... DM is a good motivator but he needs some squad strengthening and quick!!

Gary, this applies for every player outside EU and some of the new EU members (Bulgaria, Romania); however, if the player has played 5 years in the EU, this requirement doesn't apply.

Yoman, are you borat in disguise?

Apparently we?ve gone after 2 loans and nothing has come good. With only a few days left of this window we?re going to be scratching around for crumbs. I?d take a punt on a journeyman from the lower leagues. Some tough, ugly bastard that could hold up the ball and lay it off. Maybe even show Big Vic that the hard work really starts at the point when you think you?ve "made it".

Failing that, I wouldn?t be that arsed if Big Vic got a sustained run. He seems comfortable with two up front so this might be good for his development.

Michael Kenrick.... sometimes mate your comments really get to me. His overall post is spot on, just what I was feeling... We are doing so so well with what we have, but surely EVERTON could be moving for any forward with a bit of quality... Moyes was prepared to take him on loan in the summer... surely now, with the injuries we have, he could have got him... a valid post in my book.

At the end of the day we have no money and personally I’d rather we save it for the summer when prices are not so inflated and Moysie can get who he really wants.

As for loans, I’m not sure there are many top class players available to take. Maybe I’d have tried to get get Matt Derbyshire on loan but then again I was hoping Moyes was going to sign either Stephen Hunt or Zoltan Gera in the summer. Moyes clearly has higher standards than I do and credit to him for that.

It would take a damn good player to walk straight into our side at the minute and they don’t come for free. Stick with Tiny Tim, he’s doing a great job, so good that I think Centre Forward should be his permanent position.

Guys guys (Michael Kenrick), I think you may have taken my post a little too seriously, I was merely interested in how a quality young striker cum winger who we were after in the summer has been loaned out to Betis when we are in need of said quality. I can see a poster on here managed to answer my query without stupid sarcasm! Spain and Italy seem to have different rules to abide by fair enough.

My original post was in no way intended to berate the manager who I believe is doing a sterling job with limited funds and player availability. However Obinna, would be the type of player who could really give Everton an edge and added dimension to their play. Sorry if it disappointed me to see him go elsewhere! Fingers crossed we can add some depth to our squad before Monday night.

I?m sure some people on here think that loan signings are free, a la champ manager. We have no money and therefore we cannot afford a loan signing. A bit like a car, you either buy or lease it, but both options require you to part with cash. Something that Everton cannot do. So there?s no point in blaming Moyes or getting cheesed off when an inferior prem club gets Carlos Kickaball, because we do not have a pot to piss in, which to be fair, the club has said from day one of this window.

What makes a refreshing change this transfer window is we have not had the likes of Vinny Bird on here, spouting lies on whose flying in to Liverpool Airport.

We do need numbers however i for 1 would not welcome the signing of 1 Alan Smith. A bloke whos washed up and hasnt scored a goal for about 3 years. Id rather bring in a kid from the youths. That being said why are tightarse and Dithering Davie once again dithering? Well i just answered my question there. Because our manager dithers and our chairman is tight.

The need for new signings is so obvious. Especially a new Striker. So they sign a Right Back from Ireland. And we are hearing he's defensively suspect. Absolutely flabbergasting! They may as well have bought a Striker from that league for the money for goodness sake. How about we realise that we must bulk up our squad. Is that too much to ask for? And please no 1 give me this shite that they are trying/no money etc. Absolute bullshit.

I love Moyesy, love the blues, love everything to do with the club. How we are where we are without a recognised striker is unreal. What a boss team we all support! I just think if we are to reach the next level, which is Villa and Arsenal right now, we need a striker and I think Moyesy and Blue Bill know that. Bring back Big Dunc.

I?m not here to defend Bill Kenwright but its unfair to call him tight. I?d love to go out and spend a wad of cash tomorrow on brand new TV but I can't because I am skint as is Bill. If you haven't got the money to spend it doesn't make you tight. As for Dave dithering he probably is and it's frustrating but he usually gets us out of it. That's all I am clinging too because our transfer policy is flawed.

Well, if he does not sign anyone, I will not be bothering to go to any games this season. I feel it's just not worth the money to watch 10 men behind the ball and the odd breakaway goal. I wonder how many more feel the same way about this?

Sorry, Wes, I misunderstood. Musta been the line "It’s the final kick in the gut for me personally...".

Disappointment, yea, I could perhaps understand that (at a stretch...) but to describe our failure to sign someone who we looked at last summer as "the final kick in the gut for me personally..." ? it’s the stupid freak-out over a non-signing that I was addressing.

It kinda sounded serious to me! I was about to call 999 and get the paramedics round for ya!

Can you explain your post, sarcasm & all. Michael’s retort was clearly aimed at such supporters who always want & need more (I.e. never satisfied).

Do you know that Obinna was refused a work permit for Everton back in August? And regardless, we just do not have the available funds to buy more strikers.

So that’s it, get use to it. We have 4 forwards and 3 kids who may well step up (Jutkiewicz, Agard & Baxter). Meanwhile we have Tim Cahill playing out of his skin up front and we are 8 games unbeaten, including 4 games against the Sky 4.

Our finances are squeaking from transfer fees and ever increasing wages. I’m the absence of a queue of trillionaires, I suggest you get used to the status quo or risk being perennially pissed off.

I get so pissed off with people saying we can't afford to do this or that or loan players etc. Have you ever heard the expression you cant afford NOT to do it?

We get something like £0.5 million per league place a year as well as improving our chances in cup competitions.

Last summer we lost Carsley, Fernandes, McFadden, Johnson, Gravesen (yes, he was a body) and a few of the youngsters from an already small squad..

We have only added Fellaini, Saha and Castillo to the outfield team despite serious injuries to Vaughan and Yakubu.

We need more than rabbits out of hats to keep the momentum going otherwise a see a second half slide down the table looming.

John Martin you are right, Bill Kenwright isn’t tight, he’s a two faced lying potless toerag, tight is when you have money and won’t spend it - Black Bill has none.

I’m not surprised that Everton haven’t been successful in finding any reinforcements - everyone knows the EPL is a cash cow and in the middle of a global recession clubs will be looking to maximise their investments by seeking to sell players not lend them out on the never never.

It’s a pity we’re not in a position to strengthen and challenge for a shot at champions league football and a real chance of income generation.
