14 games to go

Comments (19)

With 14 games of our Premiership season left (and hopefully a few more FA Cup ties thrown in) and the transfer window finally closing and putting us out of our misery, I sit here on my second day off because of the snow (always a good time to be a teacher!) wondering what may lie in wating for us in the months to come.

Sigining Jo is a no-lose situation and there are reports today that we were in for Kevin Kuranyi until the very last minute they (Schalke) pulled the plug according to agent Barry Silkman.

It just reaffirms that Moyes is such a shrewd operator that this news wasn't in the public domain at all and that as we know, we should never read too much into the usual whisperings and murmurs we hear during the windows. We have a pretty nice run of games coming up in comparison to what we've just been through and of our boys can summon the energy to keep up our current level of performance then I see no reason why we can't just hang on to the current top 5 and maybe sneak up a couple of places.

I'm one of these people that annoyingly looks back at results and thinks "if we'd done this or won there or drawn here" and it just seems that until we have an added 3-4 quality players in our squad, we're never going to be able to have that season where we don't go 6-7 games without a win like we did and the end of last season and the start of this. The last few months have been fantastic but it's put in perspective when we see that West Ham are on;ly 4 pts off us having been in crisis themsleves, it's just we had our crisis before they did!

Jo will be given a chance and if he scores then great, how is it a risk to take a $20 million player for nothing for a few months. The real question is what we'll be able to so in the summer. Moyes has been clear in stating that in this window we've only been loking for loans, does that mean that come the summer that we might have a money to spend? The Moutinho link hasn't gone away and at the risk of wishful thinking, a summer of Moutinho, Kuranyi plus a few younger signings, Eagles or whoever then maybe come next August we could be ready for a real assault on the top 4.

Money talks, do we have any, will we have any? But I'm sure that with 14 games to go our boys will give it everything to ensure that our club becomes an attractive proposition for players and investors.

I hope you?re more direct with both your point, and your line of questioning with your pupils, Niall ? I couldn't really get a handle on what you?re trying to say or ask!

Will we have any money? Who knows...

Would we be better off if we?d played better and bought more players? Probably.

If my Sister had balls, would she be my Brother? Definitely.

Niall "... a $20m player for nothing." I hope you're not a maths teacher, Niall? Because we will still have to pay his wages, and I can imagine that is going to be a sizeable sum until his loan period expires.

Just a thought Jo and Kevin K are both around 6ft 3in, is moyes missing the long ball and I wonder is he lining up a deal to bring Cruch back to the city?

Niall - I don’t know about looking forward to next summers transfer window, I still haven’t got over last summers! When it arrives, don’t hold your breath, we’ll still have to put up with the same old shite as last year. You should know this by now, is all part and parcel of being a long suffering Evertonian.

Trouble is that if we ever did manage to bring in 3-4 quality players, all the teams around us would have done the same and we should be back to the status quo.Settle in your mind that sixth is as good as it’s EVER going to get and enjoy the fact that we don’t have to fight relegation anymore.
God,I’m beginning to sound like Doddy!

Steve Sweeney,

According to T. Marsh our team is full of lightweight midgets with no pace, now Moyes brings 6.3 Brazilian international rated at 19m GBP (nearly 30m USD) on loan and of course its another reason to have a go at him?!?

Joke really

If Kirby gets the go-ahead then we might have an investor looking to buy us .

If Kirkby gets the go ahead, not sure many people would care

Jamie Routledge, I think your comments are extremely negative and naive. We are not in Fantasy Football land here. Bringing in four quality footballers in one team (ie. Everton) can have a different effect to four quality footballers signing for another team (ie. Villa). Every team has its weaknesses and strengths and it’s up to the manager in finding the type of player that will fit into the team’s system. It’s all about quality, not quantity.

Ermm... how many players have Man Shitty signed since the start of the season?

Nick Zenos, while I agree that quality should always take precedence over mere quantity... quantity nevertheless has an important part to play. That is why we haven?t had any strikers for the last couple of months because the quantity that we had was the same quantity that got crocked! Hence we didn?t have any.

We needed a bigger quantity.

Manure have 13 players in the sick room but have they had to resort to playing kids who are either not ready or not good enough? No they haven?t and that is partly why, despite an injury list even bigger than ours, they are top of the league and deservedly so. The other part of the reason is their quality of course... they both go hand in hand.

Dave Robertz, what I?m trying to explain to our fellow Blue is that bringing in the same number of quality players as our immediate rivals doesn?t necessarily mean that we will finish in the same position next season.

And another point, injuries are part and parcel of our game anyway. We have been rather unfortunate to have had three strikers crocked at the same time. How many strikers to expect Moyes to have on his books, eight?

A threadbare squad we have no doubt. And 14 league games to play... A cup run would take its toll, but let?s hope for that tomorrow night.

So who have we got? What experience do they have? Anyone battle-hardened?

Back 4 - 4 fit plus Yobo; Rodwell; Jacobsen; Nuno Valente(?)

Midfield - 6 fit plus Gosling; Castillo.

Strikers - Victor & Jo plus Baxter. Saha maybe.

(Neville could be counted as back four or midfield. Injuries, suspensions, and some say fatigue -which would kick in if things go badly - are major factors).

If the next few games go well, we get down to 9, then 7 games to the end of the season, this squad might just do it. Mainly what we have is that the players believe it and while they might be careful, they?re not actually scared of anyone.

They always said I was an optimist...

Why do people think loan signings are free? You have to buy the player for that period and pay his wages. Jo is probably costing Everton between £2 and 3 million.

Not so Mike. The wages are agreed between the clubs and I am sure Everton are only paying a proportion. My second club Macclesfield have loaned a player from Forest who is on £9,000 a week. Macc are paying £300!

Stefan, "Why am I having a go at Moyes?" Just offering a thought, FFs don't be so defensive of him.

Steve, yesterday another poster branded Jo a "waster" and Moyes a "botler lacking ambition" ? I can't understand it.

I think it is a good signing and a player who can score goals will always be welcome.

Actually Mike Whittaker may have a point. West Ham received a £1.5M loan fee for their player to Real Madrid ? with an additional fee if the move is made permanent. Wages can vary according to what?s agreed.

All depends on the loan deal. Just cos Man City are loaded, doesn?t mean they?ll bend over backwards to a team that currently are a competitor.
