Tomorrow is for the young

Comments (22)

I've got a red neighbour here in West Yorkshire who has been to Anfield exactly 8 times less than I have. I've got a local pub packed with full-kit togged up reds who, without irony, openly come out with anti-scouse jokes. I've had to shout at the telly for my fun (tonight's ITV commentator describing Gwladys St as "our equivalent to the Spion Kop" FFS!)

In other words, I've no pinkies with any credentials to enjoy 'discussing' tonight's result.

So it is to the young that I turn. I dedicate tonight's win to the school-going Evertonians out there, many for whom tomorrow will be their first day of their lives that they can walk through the gates after the right derby result. To these I say saviour every precious moment and teach those graceless glory-hunters what dignity in victory is like.

Make the most of it John, lad, I have no-one to take the piss out of here in the US. For 50 years I?ve supported the blues and I?ve had many magic moments being able to make those Norwegians suffer (worked offshore on many vessels whose crews were Norwegians ? all freekin? red shites) ? unfortunately on not as many occasions as I?d have liked.

There can be no greater pleasure in life than bucking the trend ? and this beats even that! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy ? but, as Moyesie said, and he is spot on ? we do it with dignity.
Why do I feel like this team is going places ? what a ride......

Enjoy it John. I cut out to a bar uptown here in New York, an old Irish neighbourhood place with the game on the tv and usually no reds in sight... except tonight... The trio in front of me were very quiet all through the match. Then at 90 minutes, they got up to leave and one turned to me and said "We?re out of here, I don?t wanna see us beat...."

I smiled and enjoyed extra time...... alone... with every other blue I?m connected to around the world......

I?m living in Singapore and 90% of football fans are glory hunting Sky 4 supporters.

Going to be so many tired, depressed Reds about town after having to get up early for the 4am kick-off whilst I?m sat here buzzing like Amy Winehouse...

Fantastic match, absolute Masterclass from Moyes and our kids whilst Rafa took another step closer to being taken away in a straight jacket...

Paul - I watched the match in a bar on 25th & 6th in the city (Rogue), I was the only bluenose (flanked by a Sheff. Utd. & Leeds supporter to each side) in the place but I assure you - ’you’ll never mock the redshite alone’!!
But then, you may have heard my hysterical laugh from across the sprawling metropolis when Gosling scored, so you’d already know.
COYB!!!!!! Very proud Everton supporter!!!!! This one will go down in the archives. Thank you Toffees!!!!

Calm down dear it?s only a commercial, now back to the action, oh look those upstarts in blue must have scored! Only Everton could be involved in one of the biggest own goals in Live television sporting history.

Well done ITV, if we are lucky enough to get to Wembley can you put a couple of adverts on during the first half then we can enjoy the rest of the game without any nerves.
The only Norwegian Blue is a Parrot, which I shall now train to say GOSLING.

Anthony Dyer-
Maybe you can have your Blue Norwegian Parrot learn this speech- bound to give the RS heartburn- Moyes in Victory.....

"But even in the aftermath of victory, Moyes found time to question how well-equipped Liverpool are to live up to the high standards demanded of them by fans and media alike. Benitez?s side might be in the midst of their first real title challenge for 20 years, but Moyes feels they are over-rated.

Referring to the latter, Moyes said: "What are you lot going to do now? All those Liverpool fans, especially in the local press. The way you build that side up. I bet you?re all stunned tonight. We completely controlled the game, although neither side played especially well. After the sending off we had as much control as Liverpool did in the first game at Anfield, but we struggled to find a way through, just like they did.

"This has been one of the proudest moments for me as a manager, of course. We?ve shown against the top four this season that we can compete with them. We drew with Arsenal, we drew with Manchester United here and we drew with Liverpool twice at Anfield. Now we?ve beaten them.

"There is more to come, though. We?re learning and getting up to their level. The fans were desperate for a win tonight, but then so were Liverpool?s."

In the spirit of the young, may I exclaim:

"300 mins - Torres OWNED!!!!!"

Jags has his faults but totally had Torres in his pocket. And with Lescott (and Yobo on the bench) this side is going to be ROCK for years!

I watched the game whilst on an offshore drilling rig out of Ghana and it was pure heaven; two of my brothers were at the game last night and imagine they would have been pissing themselves at the expense at the shite.

The image of watching Benitez writing down his penalty takers with minutes to go was superb.

Anyway, what a night, what a team and what great support again.

In keeping with the international theme, I watched it from my apartment here in China at 4am.

The silence outside was deafening, I live in a very quiet, newly built district. But I cant quite describe the feeling of not being alone.

Watching the scenes around the ground, hearing the songs, chants, even the random shouts you hear during a throw in (you fucking shit house etc.), all made me feel so..... I dont know the right word. I just felt completely part of it, even from my location and time zone.

Its truly a special feeling, and one I can compare to nothing I have ever experienced in my life. Its amazing to think of all these blues linked, all over the world in complete unity. And all sharing that moment Gosling scored, and savouring it. For that one moment, you forget where you are and just get overwhelmed by Everton.

Truly a great result, one to be savoured for a long time. Lets hope that Jo gets inspired by what he saw. How could he not? I am willing to bet he hasnt experienced anything like that in his life, let alone his career.

I dont want to identify anybody individually, but Jags is incredible. He shackled Torres so well, that you could see Torres physically distressed at how easy Jags seemed to control him. For all my admiriation of Yobo, he is now a bench player while these four are fit. Hibbert is an excellent defender, and wears the shirt with pride. A true blue.

This win was for us, the fans, for the torment we have suffered this year. For me, the team has turned our season around, and showed the desire to win, and defend as if their lives depended on it. Only one man can take the plaudits for re-energising the players. That man is our leader, David Moyes. Some may argue that he was the one who let us get in the poor state we were in, maybe so.

But there are not many managers who can turn their club around once they lose the belief of their players. That in itself, highlights just how good he is. Long may this good vein of form continue. My congratulations to all my blue brothers and sisters world wide. For a fanbase so divided on many issues, its nice for us all to be singing off the same hymn sheet, even if only for a day!

And Scott Milne, I’m having a field day in the office taking the piss out of my RS co-workers.

John, it’s 7:40 and in 50 mins time, school is about to start, im having my habitual morning read of toffeeweb and I can honestly say I havent looked forward to school this much in my life.

Dna Gosling is now officialy an Everton legend forever and AVM, if he never plays again, his cross will be enough for me to have fond memories of him.

The greatest football related night of my life:)

God I love Everton Football Club

Loved reading about your individual experiences chaps. Still getting shivers up my spine.

The game lacked in quality, but other than that I thought it was a classic derby. Blood, thunder, sweat and tears (RS fans). I love Benitez’s efforts to be more amiable in interviews since his outburst. He’s got a painted on smile and he just gives one word answers. Underneath I bet he’s tearing himself apart. Well he can always go back to waiting tables.

It’s snowing like fuck here, but I don’t give a rat’s ass. I feel like nothing could spoil my mood right now.

To all the blues far and wide, here’s to more mornings (or whatever time it is wherever you are) like this to come.

BTW, did anybody hear the patronising comment from the commentator about Jagielka being a useful utility player for England! Useful utility player? He is currently half of the best centre half pairing in the league in my opinion. Too busy kissing Big 4 backside to give real credit to a blue.

Now to kick back and enjoy the rest of the week.

Living in Burnham, Bucks you don't tend to get many Evertonians. My nine-year-old son started playing and watching football when he was six. All his mates ?supported? Chelsea, Manure or the shite. We were bottom of the league and had Chang written on our shirts.

He wanted a football kit, after much deliberation he got the Chelsea kit. I even took him to see them. Then I took him to Goodison and Andy Johnson scored in the rain in the last minute to beat Arsenal. The Chelsea kit was thrown away. He was an Everonian.

He constantly gets stick for supporting Everton. Today he's gone to school proudly wearing his Everton scarf which he bought from his pocket money at the Arsenal game last week.

I had to laugh when Dan Gosling came on. The reds sang ’what the fucking hell is that!’ They had a point. He stood by the touch line, not even looking his 19 years; his haircut making him more a sweater-tied-round-the-shoulders Happy Days extra than Premiership footballer.

I guess they brought fate on them with that song. Excellent.

Been in Brissle for 20 years now but born and bred BlueNose. Watch the derby games at our local, purely for the second hand emotion of being part of a (small) Blue Corner.

It has got a tad bigger each of the 3 matches in this series and last night we just knew, just knew, it was going to happen. The sound of a crowd purring, that growl of approval when a player bosses his part of the pitch, as young Rodwell made the right choices, each and every time as Alonso chased shadows was just perfect.

Place exploded when ITV lost it, loads of WTF’s flying. Then the utter silence. Then explosion of noise when it went back to the pile up. Geez - the roof near came off. Such agony then such sheer unbelievable mayhem.

Ranks up there with all the good times but especially proud because that was a team who knew how to play. And who delivered.

Final thought? Phil Neville, to me, was absolutely majestic. Led on the pitch, never missed a tackle, nursed Gosling and Rodwell and he showed his confidence that they could play. How chuffed he must be today, along with thousands and thousands of exiles who cannot be up there back home.

As a 16-year-old Everton fan going into a school with about 300 Liverpool fans (no exaggeration) and plus getting a day off last Tuesday because of the snow, this is truely the best week of my life.
