Everton Youth and British players

Comments (21)

Just wanted to make mention of the fact that the shite ended the match with just one person from the home countries, whereas we ended with not only 7 players from the home countries, but also 6 of those came through our youth system: Baines, Jagielka, Hibbert, Osman, Rodwell, and Gosling

It is testimony to our commitment in young players that not only did we beat Liverpool but we did it with players that are not mercenaries... and No ladyboys!

That is why when the banks come knocking on their door for their money back this summer and they go bankrupt and have to sell their players, all they will be left with is rubbish and no youth.

Ps Hope Moysie rests Timmy & Fellaini for Gosling & Jô ? they looked tired and injured. NSNO

I think this is a very important point to make. During the game we used no fewer than eight English players. I think this core of ex-youth/English players adds some team spirit to Everton that the likes of the RS, Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal etc can only dream of.

I forgot to mention it could have been 7 from youth system had Vic not spat his dummy.

Had VIc been available would Andy had been on to send in that cross?

Blessing in disguise...

Just wait till you see Baxter make his breakthrough. We could be United mark 2.

With such a good understanding of each other, playing and training together every day, Capello has an English defence right there with our back 4. Maybe all not the best (yet) individually but it is a team game and these players are still improving.

Now that would be good to see and show he has balls and vision about the future.

Sorry to point this out, but Gosling didn?t come through our youth setup!

Agree with the point made about VDM - he made the goal and should be persisted with: he could be a massive player for us before the season?s over.

Tim your right he came from Plymouth but has been part of the youth set up now for nearly two seasons.

Anyway thats splitting hairs we have some very good youth players emerging and a littole look at the current youth team shows a lot more for the future. Who needs a billionaire when we can have a youth set up that saves us millions! Very excited for the coming years. Remember the Mancs when there batch of youngsters came through. "You’ll never win anything with kids" lol it’s come back to bite you on the arse again Hanson. COYB!

Thanks for the Hansen reminder Andy!! The kid Rodwell completely outplayed Alonso and Mascherano. Actually, what you can’t win anything with is whining greedy mercenaries.

And Gosling may not have come through our youth system, but he is a testimony to Moyes’s transfer abilities. He was very well known down in Plymouth as an outstanding young prospect. All credit that we got him for less than £1M ahead of everyone else.

Er...not quite...we haven’t actually won anything yet.

I have a question, does anyone know of any other promising youngsters apart from the usual suspects (Rodwell, Gosling, Kissock, Baxter)?

Also, how good was Rodwell last night? I was massively impressed. Excellent skill, touch, composure, never gave the ball away. He’s gonna be a real player.

Young James Wallace is an excellent ball player with a great attitude and he is a bluenose who loves the club. One to watch!!!

Billy, "You?ll never win anything with kids" comment referred to Hansens talking about Utd. when they introduced Beckham,Scholes, the Nevilles,Giggs etc. Hansen, not Everton.

Ray,

I know ? I was more referring to Andy?s comment that it had come to bite Hansen on the arse again. I was thinking it was a bit premature as we only won a match rather than some silverware like Man U did.

I was trying to guard against the complacency that went round the last time we knocked the rs out of the cup. Everyone thought we would win the cup, but we got dumped out by West Ham in the next round. We?re not there yet!!

I’ve heard good things about Wallace, he’ll probably turn out to be 3ft tall and make Ossie look like Sly Stallone

Bill I was refering only to the victory last night. The words he used were meant for the Mancs I just thought it was fitting to remind everyone. It was meant tongue in cheek

We bought Gosling last January. Jags and Baines were involved in the setup for a time (but didn’t ’come through it’ as they were released!). But I do get your point and agree with it! Also to add we’ve got James Vaughan and Anichebe who didn’t figure, and Baxter I hope is going to be a class act in a few years. It’s also interesting to note that Liverpool have 2 scousers involved in their first team. We’ve got loads! (as have the Geordies incidently). How can anyone grow up in Liverpool, as a liverpool fan?

I just want to say that I am proud to be an Evertonian every day but my heart was bursting with joy and pride after this historic win - as I am sure was the case for everyone. I have been watching the blues 45 years and the moments of sheer delight after Gosling’s goal matched any I have seen at Goodison.

I Just wanted to say a few things regarding the game last night and events leading up....

1. I'm so happy for Dan Gosling! I was thinking all through extra time it would be great if either he or Jack Rodwell got the winner. Made up for them both, it should give them confidence to flourish.

2. I wanted to commend Tony Hibbert on his recent performances. Well done Tony. You are one who gets more than your fair share of criticism, but recently you have done the royal blue shirt proud. Along with Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines you know what it means to us fans and all your performances of late have really warmed our blue hearts.

3. Victor Anichebe says he is embarrassed. He should be, rocking the boat before the derby. Regardess of how guilty he is, any sort of 'bust-up', swearing or not, is something to be ashamed of. Look at the lads mentioned above for inspiration!

4. I wanted to raise the issue of the Liverpool fans throwing socks, coins etc. No doubt the media will shy away from this as it is their darlings that are guilty, but we should really kick up a stink about this. It was disgusting. You could clearly see players being in the line of fire on ITV (even if we did miss the goal!). More should be made of this, our reputation is dragged through the dirt at any opportunity.

5. Its to be expected from the fat waiter, but disputing the sending off of Lucas?! Rafa really is cracking up. Just give us our dues Rafa, we beat you fair and square.

Well done Moyes and the boys. Keep up the effort though, we've won nothing yet. There is a great opportunity of silverware now though, grab the chance with both hands!
