A happy man, although ITV did not help

Comments (59)

Whilst it was hardly a riveting game, much less one of quality football, it was not lacking in taliking points. Injuries, red cards and big scoring youth players aside, I can't help but feel somewhat cheated by ITV's 'technical difficulties'. The victory is one which I will enjoy for a while yet, but what of the winning goal?

It's one thing to bang in a last minnute winner and watch Goodison erupt, A very different thing to miss the whole thing and see the screen flicker back on whilst Torres takes a kick off.

Anyway, I don't want to complain; nothing like watching 'Stevie Me' wander off so early. Bloody good stuff tonite, I do worry for Bolton on Saturday tho (anyone remember Sunderland last season?)

300 minutes waiting for an outcome. ITV fuck up and place an add break on 30 seconds before our goal. Comes back to the celebrations. Cheers ITV you robbed me of the moment and maybe the satisfaction. You bastards.

The ad break flicker annoyed me too. But that was a technical glitch.

What made me see red was the commentator who made the comment about someone from a bigger club being a more suitable place for Cahill. That isn’t the quote but was the gist of it. They didn’t make the same point about Torres or Gerrard.

Anyway, onwards to Villa. After that 2-3 home loss, there should be sufficient motivation to get a result and perform well there. I hope.

Luckily (am assuming regional variances) the problems didn’t stop me from enjoying the moment here in the east midlands.

Personally in terms of quality coverage if it aint on Sky it’s no good in my view but if we’re to grasp one positive point from ITV coverage unlike Sky, they clearly remember the game wasn’t only invented in 1992.

Made me laugh though as last night Baines grew up an Evertonian and last week he apparently grew up a Kopite.

be thankful you got to see the game at all. Stupid pay tv channel in NZ doesn’t take FA cup games. Hopefully, my brother in london can work out how to put it on disc to send to me. We owe Villa big time- my 3 year old son learnt a couple of new words the last time we played them.
I’m hoping that Moyes gives ADVM a chance to repay the club with a string of games now

I loved the fact the commentator kept saying that Torres looked injured all night. He wasn’t injured he was just made to look very ordinary against a class defence. I also thought Benitez was going to cry in his post-match interview, the fuckin idiot!

Didn’t miss the goal on Yorkshire TV. There was a moment during ET when it flicked off for a second, but we didn’t miss the goal. My mate’s probably still putting his front room back together after I demolished it in a blue frenzy! I was really confused when they started banging on about it on Sky Sports News this morning (conflict of interest?).

Totally fucking made up! Haven’t felt this good in ages, even if I do have some sort of eye infection that itches like crazy AAAARGH.

We deserve this feeling and it gives us the chance to get our own back on the Villa.

I arranged to meet some friends with a red persuasion to watch the game in a pub in London’s financial district. There were 4 reds, a United fan (honourary Blue for the night) me and one other blue. It being London, there were also several other RS in the pub. Me and my friend were the only blues.

When ITV flicked back after the ill-timed advert break there was a moment where everyone took in the image of a pile of Everton players lying on the floor and looked up at the score in the top corner of the screen and then we went mad. Looking at all the stoney-faced, glory-hunting londonders trying to take in what had happened while ITV had been off screen was amazing. It beats coming away from Upton Park after our 3-1 win as my favourite Everton moment of the season, but then beating that lot was always going to!

The ITV coverage was poor, though here in the Granada region they got the game back on in time to see the goal after the glitch. What annoyed me was the commentry - the pompous and clueless Tyldsley suggesting that Everton aren?t good enough for Cahill (as mentioned above) was insulting to all blues. But how can they have a red as co-commentator? Beglin may try to be impartial but his bias is deep rooted, naturally.

What a performance though, I am so proud. The lads have worked so hard, let?s keep the momentum going and get some revenge on Villa.

There?s something wrong in the world when I get better coverage of an Everton-Liverpool FA cup derby in Tasmania (via Setanta) than I would have done if I still lived in Liverpool... Still, what a fantastic result.

My house was burgled on Tuesday night (while I and my family were at home). Not much taken, apart from my car keys and then subsequently my car. Wednesday obviously a bit low.

But if you asked me would I take away the burglary experience if it meant I had to take away the FA Cup experience, I?d say absolutely not. In a few months or years time I will have forgotten my car was stolen. I will never forget Goodison going absolutely mental, with the commentator just screaming ?RYAN GOSLING... RYAN GOSLING?. Just as I?ve never forgotten the numerous heartbreaks those bastards have inflicted upon me.

A night to remember for the rest of my life....

It looks like most of you had it not too bad - ITV Wales was obviously not so well timed! The coverage went off just as the ball was going over to the right for VDM to cross and came back on with all the players lying on the floor congratulating Gosling!
I’ve never felt so simultaneously elated and pissed off in all my life. Its given way to pride now but can’t help but feel robbed of a special experience.
Watching a game on TV is never the same as being at the ground but in moments like that you get to be part of it, sharing the joy with the crowd! A replay just doesn’t have the same effect and thanks to a massive ITV blunder I’m sure a large portion of the Welsh Everton contingent feel that they missed out on a special moment!

I missed the first half of the game on TV,because I was driving home. I had the dubious pleasure of listening to BBC Radio 5 live. Oh my god, Alan Green gets worse. His comments on the game were nothing short of disgraceful.

He told me and all the other listeners that, A) Cahill should have received a straight red for his tackle on ??Jamie?? and be sent off; B) Pienaar should have recieved 2 yellows for his over the top tackles on some other no-mark; and C) wait for it, the tackle Pienaar got just before half time was ??In the spirit of the game?? and that he should expect it during a Mersyside Derby and that he will come out again in the second half none the worse.

I have never heard such biased reporting on the radio as I heard last night. Thankfully I was able to watch the second half onwards on TV, only to listen to Tydsley giving his "unbiased" comments. Then to cap it all, ITV go into a commercial break just before the goal and we miss the build up, only to return as the blues are celebrating our goal. Dont get me wrong it was a beautiful sight, but somehow i feel robbed. ITV should never again be allowed to show live football, their incompetence and biased commentary are nothing short of disgraceful.

With all that i have commented on, did it spoil my night...??? Did it Fuck. I just hope the lads can get a decent rest and hopefully do us all proud. I have said in the past that I will never go to the new Wembley unless Everon are playing, indeed I have already turned down a couple of tickets for England games. I have a feeling that this could be our year..... What time are the trains?

Conspiracy or cock-up?

Most live TV football isn?t as ?live? as you think. EG if you listen to a match on the radio and watch the game on the TV you will notice that quite often there is about a three second lag. There are a couple of reasons for this, some of them to do with the disparity between an analogue signal and a digital? it can also be a quite deliberate policy to have a time lag during live events to avoid things like full frontal streakers and other unwelcome stuff.

I saw the goal live last night, though, there was a cut to an ad break just before ?Shandy? received the ball. I was in the Tyne Tees area (Though my shouts of celebration could be heard in Huyton according to family).

I?m almost certain that this was a technical glitch? but in the back of my mind I can imagine some bitter Kopite pulling the switch as Goslings goal delicately chipped its way towards the back of the net? it?s just the sort of thing that one of them twats would do

The commentary and editorial decisions were certainly biased? ?Cahill to a big club? Beglin condoning every Everton booking? but judging the Liverpool bookings to be harsh, the camera cutting from the action when Everton had the ball to a stationary Torres... and to the Liverpool supporters every 5 minutes(BTW Imagine if that was Everton fans throwing missiles onto the pitch? there?d be a stewards enquiry and we?d be thrown out of the FA Cup.. probably Europe)

However, you can?t edit out our triumph? we won? your media darlings lost ITV ?deal with it!

ITV London here so missed the goal which was really irritating - you wait all that time then miss the moment of glory whilst having to watch adverts. All we got was a pile of bodies jumping on each other as it came back on.

Kind of took the shine off it missing the boy Gosling clipping a peach into the corner of the net - still bloody lovely to turn them over, and especially glorious to see that shite Gerrard sloping off, and Torres being put in Jags back-pocket for the entire evening - magic!

I’m yet to see any post match anything, ITV just about managed to give us 30 seconds of Gosling then it all went tits up as their coverage is generally somewhat amateur.

Looking forward to seeing the waiter complaining about the loss, and Davey waxing lyrical about another fine display from the boys in blue!

Lets hope these 3 games against them give us a real shot in the arm and go someway to derailing their season!

Double whammy for me, in Somerset. The feed went dead, and the ad came on. I panicked, ran across to the radio and turned that on. It wasn’t tuned in very well, but the first words I heard were ?and into the net!? Couldn?t be sure which team had scored, though I thought it was us as we were attacking when the picture went; but for some reason I couldn’t read the crowd cheer volume. Then I heard Alan Green say the goalscorer?s name ? and Jesus, did it ever sound like DOSSENA!
The relief when those images of the blue-shirt pile-up came back up? Words can’t describe...

I was lucky enough to be at the game last night, and I can tell you it was one the greatest moments of my blue life when Shandy crossed and Dan (not ryan lol) Gosling turned three redshite defenders inside out. It seemed to be in slow motion and I thought he was looking for to much time, but oh my god didn’t he do well. So happy that it was one of our younguns! We had 8 English players on the field to there 1 after Gerard went off and I think that is something for us all to be proud of.

Did you see on TV how Jags had Torres in his pocket all game and how as soon as Gerard went off he seemed to lose his appetite for the game. One of the fuuniest things I’ve seen is when he was taken of to a chorus of Ladyboy, by 35000 blues at the top of their voice.

About the biase we regularly see whenever Liverpool play anyone aside from the Mancs I don’t expect anything else. I cancelled my subscription with Satanta after their coverage of the league game. The aftermatch pundits where Macmanaman and Fowler, MOTD has Laurenson and Hanson and ITV Beglin and the Anti -Everton Tyldesley. Even BBC radio has the disgraceful Alan Green. Is it any wonder that Everton rarely get the credit we desreve whilst that batch of kopite scum get to deliberate over almost every game we play accross all the media platforms. ITV are frigging shite! I cant believe they missed the goal, like there wasnt enough bloody adverts from the time the show started until it ended, for them to go to a Tic Tac advert seconds before we score! As for the commentary, first thing Jim Redshite Beglin said was "im sitting on the fence" yeah right! As for Tyddlesley (sp?) he was litterally yearning for Torres to put the ball in the net. That why hasnt a "bigger" club come in for Cahill comment also wound me up.

I’m in Cardiff so was unlucky. One of the most joyous moments Goodison has seen in years, and we are looking at a tic tac advert. When the screen went dead I grabbed my little radio and turned it on, and similar to Duncan above, could tell a goal had gone in by Alan Greens shouting. My first hint it was our goal was that the background noise was huge, then Alan Green said EVERTON ONE, then the screen came on with the Everton players on the floor. Don’t get me wrong, I’m delighted with the result, but finding out about a goal in small degrees instead of the ’WHAM’ does leave you feeling out of it somewhat. I will never, ever forgive ITV for that, and I hope they never get another contract in British top level football.

Having said all that, what a magnificent moment for this young team, I’m really excited about what they could achieve if they are kept together! COYB !!

You guys think you?ve got it bad. I had to go to school at the start of the second half of normal time and in the hussle and bussle of leaving I forgot my mobile. So when I was at school for the first lesson I couldn?t get live updates. I then took my mates phone in second period and tried 3 times to find if the score had been put up.

When I saw the headline "Gosling sinks Liverpool", I shouted out in ecstasy. Unfortunately that class was English and we were listening to speechs that were assessment tasks. So a detetion for my celebration but one I am willing to take. I went even nuttier when I saw it was ADVM and 118 minutes. Then to top it off my teacher is from the dark side and a few renditions of singing the blues were in order, which the class duly sung with me.

As someone who doesn't have Sky Sports or Setanta I sat down last night to relish a derby cup-tie. Is it me or is ITV's coverage rubbish? They even managed to put ads on when Gosling scored the winner! What a shower.

Also, I was really looking forward to seeing a derby game with the big Afro playing. I heard he has become a bit of a hero with the fans. Again, is it me or did he just have a bad day at the office? He was awful, no energy & no touch. On the other hand, & I know the opposition only had 10 men, but Rodwell was an inspiration. So assured and wanting to take responsibility in the middle of the park when no one else was prepared to.

Finally, is Jags the best centre forward in the world at the moment or what? In fact, defensively, Everton must have the best back four in the premireship. That Devon lad Gosling isn't bad either. Bring on the Villains! COYB

If you ever needed reminding what a verminous shower of shit they really are then you needed no reminder by the constant ?Fuck off to Kirkby? chants and their turd of a manager coming out and saying they lost to a deflection - the ungracious, classless twat.

The other thing that sticks in my mind from the game: Neville apparently yelling at Fellaini to sort his act out, whilst in discussion with referee. The Big Fella really needs to drop the comedy barnet now and get down to the serious business of being the engine in our midfield

Oh, and as for Tyldesly, well it was the usual scripted and condescending bollocks that you would come to expect. We could do ourselves a lot of favours if we simply brush off this result as normal business and concentrate on beating Villa. I have a feeling though the club will release a DVD, which is only fire to the opinion of twats like Tyldesley/Green that beating them is ?our cup final?. Serious, we?ve moved on from that now.

Phil, Fellaini is carrying an injury, hence the lacklustre display last night; he?s been like it since the Arsenal game which is why he only played an hour against Utd at the weekend as well.

Like several other ITV regions, the Tyne-Tees region realised the mistake and switched back as the move was building up on the right wing. It still disrupted the flow of the move, but seeing Dan’s turn-back and curve was thankfully unaffected. Well done, lads - that’s the spirit!

Can I also add my support to the criticism of the commentator to his surprise that no ’bigger’ club has come in for Cahill yet! Disgraceful! If my gut-feeling is right, Tiny is a 100% blue and is happy to stay with us. His work rate of late as our ’striker’ has been a sensation. He might not be the most technically-gifted of players, but his commitment to the cause is superb, and I think he should have a ’No Sale’ sign tattooed on him by Davey himself forthwith! Tim’s well on the way to being a legend (cue after dinner speaking tours in 2015+)

Last point - I would like to praise Baines and Hibbo for their work rate and improvement of late (well done - especially as I’ve been one of Hibbo’s detractors in previous seasons). As for Jags - well, words fail me - solid as a rock - respect due!

Didn’t hear the remark about Cahill, but I think that’s a massive insult not to the club but to Cahill’s loyalty. I’m sure Ferguson has sniffed round as Cahill would be a perfect replacement for Scholes. The only thing is Moyes has politely told him to go forth and multiply, plus I think Tim himself would say the same. He loves it here. He’s 100% Evertonian, and the guy the younger Evertonians look up to in the same way I used to look up to Big Dunc; the guy who would run through a brick wall for you, stand up for Everton and lead the line.

Count yourselves lucky - I’d taped the replay on my Dutch digital recorder as I was out at the Rotterdam derby - and the darned thing didn’t even record the extra time despite me having extended the recording until midnight! So didn’t know the result until I checked Facebook and the Beeb. What a feeling - I probably woke the neighbours at 1.20am though, but really didn’t care!

After dinner speeches, David! Sure that’ll go down well for Tim at the Coogee Bay Hotel and Icebreakers Bondi in 2015...

Did anyone else notice Stevie Larrrrr trying to make ( doe) eye contact with the officials in the tunnel prior to kick off. I'll be looking out for that one in future. Is there no limit to this creeps' attempts to cosy up to the ref?

What on Earth is everybody whinging about the commentary for? I’m usually one of the most critical around when it comes to biassed commentary, but with a couple of exceptions, Jim Beglin seemed to be pretty impartial last night. At times he even seemed pissed off with Liverpool for being so poor.

As for Tyldesley’s Cahill comment, he never said "I wonder why a big club hasn’t come in for him." He said "Apologies to Everton fans, but I do wonder why a club which has had more recent success hasn’t taken a punt on him." And that’s an understandable comment - obviously referring to an Arsenal or Chelsea.

The ITV cock up has had one ironic side benefit ? it?s kept the result, and a replay of Gosling?s goal ? in every news programme for an extra 24 hours.

I keep imagining Benitez turning on the TV looking for a bit of light relief from his day job by checking how the Iraqi elections went, only to see Gosling score again for the umpteenth time.

If he wasn?t paranoid before the game, he will be now...

Oops...
Second posting on TW and I bizarrely get the name of our newest star wrong. Can only blame it one of two things: I was still pissed and celebrating, or maybe my burglars nicked some of my brain... Still, at least I didn?t say that Jags was currently the best centre forward in the world...

Let's hope for a great result on Saturday, when Tom Cahill and Michael Arteta are playing out of their skins....

Firstly, I would like to say congratulations to the boys on a hard fought victory of that shower. Whilst we have the pride and dignity to accept when we have been out-played, out-thought and out-done, unfortunately, this does not stretch to our wonderful neighbours.

Anyway on to my point, is it just me or did anyone else have a problem with last night's commentator getting ever so excited every time he mentioned the word "Torres" or that lot got anywhere near our goal. And some of his comments, enough to make my ears hiss my steam. The best one had to be...

"Liverpool hold a sizeable height advantage over Everton here, the average outfield player height for Everton is ust over 5ft 10" with Liverpool just under 6ft" Now call me stupid but isn't that just about 2" max? Sizeable? Now I am sure we would all like an extra 2 "to call our own but enough to comment?

"Gwladys Street ? Everton's equivalent to The Spion Kop" was another? Who is this twat? And to have Jim Beglin sat next to him ? why not just invite John Barnes from Channel 5 or that prick from Radio 5 Live? We know that referees favour the so called bigger 4 clubs but I am pretty damn sure it all starts from the media and this silly portrail?

Anyone seen anything in the news about sock/coin throwing today ? you bet your life you haven't and pretty sure you won't either!

The Guardian sports poll today follows ITVs latest football debacle. If you were being treated to an advert for Tic Tacs instead of watching this key moment in Everton's recent history, you can vote at 'guardian.co.uk/polls'.

This is a great little bit taking the pee out of ITV. http://newsbiscuit.com/article/david-moyes-declared-tactical-genius-after-fielding-three-adverts-to-confuse-liverpool-defence-471. our profile must be on the up! Great win today and what a bonus to be able to give a rest, albeit only 10 mins or so to first team players, knowing that your subs can do a job.

The result of the Guardian poll on 'Should ITV be barred from bidding for the FA Cup?' was a clear-cut 86% 'Yes' with a befuddled 14% on 'No'.

Fortunately Everton's next game against Villa is on Setanta.
