Shandy vs Pepe

Comments (31)

After reading every available match report this morning in work, I stumbled across one report which mentioned a fight between Shandy and Reina?

According to the article the fight between these two ended up in, I quote, "an ugly free-for-all". Now Reina is ugly, granted, but I never saw any of this or read about it anywhere else.

Can anyone shed any light on this or what caused it?

If it is true, AVDM's only two contributions to his Everton career are setting up the winner in a derby and lamping a kopite. Not a bad legacy, ha ha!

As the Everton players executed a crowd-thrilling encore of the derby celebration piley-on, Van der Meyde booted the ball away as Pepe the Clown was trying to grab it in order to get the game going again quickly.

Said circus performer then physically attacked Shandy and might well have ended up with a red card for initiating the confrontation but was yellow-carded instead on the advice of the referee's assistant.

It didn’t appear as part of the coverage as the focus was rightly on our celebrating players. Lyndon summed it up well. My only comment would be that while Andy hasn’t lived up to expectations since joining he couldn’t have done much better in his short stint in the last game.

He provided the match winning cross and gave it to the shite when attacked by Riena. All in all a good days work for a late sub.

Good man AVDM. If only he ran up to the shite bench and spat in the fat waiter’s face..now that would of topped it all off!

Nick, if someone spat in my face, I would kick the shit out of them. I cannot think of anything as low. A disgusting thought and not one worthy of an Evertonian.

I didn’t see the incident, I was too busy celebrating. I only saw the stewards coming onto the pitch.

There is a picture in the Liverpool Echo though of Van der Meyde and Reina squaring up to each other.

Confidence plays a huge part in what anyone does. I reckon that today AvdM must be feeling pretty good. Ok, he is not fit and is short of a yard of pace. How about giving him a run in the side? He is the best crosser of a ball at the club, he is the most naturally talented player at the club and he has a lot to prove.

Leon Osman is in need of a rest. So, David Moyes, be really bold put in AVDM and let him prove us all wrong.

You might just get your wish, Andy, because Pienaar is out and probably Fellaini too. More likely, however, we’ll see Jo’s debut and either Rodwell or Gosling to start against Bolton, with VDM subbing in again... probably for Osman.

I?ve been a long time critic of AVDM, but setting up the winner against the shite and finding a way to piss them off even more will earn him forgiveness from most Evertonians.

Shandy?s ability has never been in question, but he?s hardly been Garry Speed when it comes to looking after himself, I think asking him for 90 minutes at prem pace may be a tad ambitious, but he?d have loved it on Wednesday and I?d like to think we have ourselves an extremely talented sub who?s desire to play the game has been rekindled by a magical night.

I am so bored of seeing posts over the last few years about whether Shandy Andy can cut it for us.... this is the fact of the matter:

1. He was a quality winger with pace and tricks, the tricks are still there; the pace has gone.

2. He has done many things in the past few years that have pissed Moyes off and shown he has little respect for himself or his team mates.

3. He could, given the chance, be a good winger for us.
4. He won't get the chance as he hasn't had it yet, and Moyes sees him every day.

5. A great cross doesn't make a great player or one that can do it week-in, week-out. I can put a great ball in on a Saturday but 5 mins later a shit one follows... get my point?

Give the man a contract now!

What I like is that VDM still gives a shit. After his ’problems’ during his time at Everton whether they’re self-inflicted or not, he still gave enough of a shit to put in a decent ball for the goal then piss Reina off by kicking the ball away. I know he’s a pro and that’s what he should do anyway but he seemed very proud to be part of that team on Wednesday.

I really don?t understand this lingering obsession with VdM. As far as I?m concerned he put in a great cross once for Beattie to score with a header and he put the cross over on Wednesday for Gosling, which may not have even been intended for him (but who cares?). Aside from that, I haven?t seen anything to warrant a first team place and he certainly hasn?t got any pace any more.

If he does play, I wish him well ? it?s just that I don?t think he?s merited a place like some people obviously believe.

It is the usual story with most of us irrational and fickle fans, one decent moment and he?s a hero again, next week when he is pissed and nudging up to the next pregnant stripper he will be the Devil incarnate.

Football, don?t you just love it?... I know I do! (Well done Shandy... for once.)

I’d like to pick up on Rob Lyons’ comment about Shandy.

After coming on he twice tried to take on a Liverpool full back for pace (once on each side) and twice failed completely. Bear in mind he had come on after 105 minutes, so both Dossena and Arbeloa had been running around for that amount of time and should have been considerably more tired than Shandy. This is case in point that he can not currently last the pace in a Prem match. He may get fitter, but Moyes is not going to start someone who is that out of match practice.

I will enternally be grateful for an excellent cross, but the lad has to do so much more in the next 3 months to justify getting even a pay as you play deal out of Everton. 5 years, about 15 matches and no goals means he cannot win me over with one very well timed, quality cross.

Andy do you REALLY think that AvdM is more talented than Arteta? Than Pienaar? More so than Rodwell? What the fcuk are you on about?

Great cross but it was one cross. Most naturally talented player at the club? What planet are you on?

ADVM has drained EFC of wages for far too long. One cross against Liverpool does not make amends for the amount of wages this guy has taken and he has given far too little in return. Once the cloud of euphoria clears I hope people will remember this.

I don’t suppose there’s many of us who have seen that much of Shandy to offer a solid opinion on him. What I would say is that when he came on he repeatedly got himself into a shed load of space and waved frantically for the ball, albeit Arteta would not pass to him (or perhaps I’m being a bit paranoid?). He was the only Everton player on the night to make a run through their defence, who were on the 18 yard line, to create an opportunity for a defence splitting pass, which unfortunately did not come. The down side was when he tried to push the ball past them, as my son said, he still thinks he’s 26. COYB

Interesting views on AvdM, one swallow does not a summer make... you get my drift here?

But the fact is he has had NO match practice, he is WELL short of match fitness and as any player will tell you its the first 5 yards that are important. That's all about fitness and timing.

Match fitness and being fit are entirely different things. AvdM is not match fit and cameos, as welcome as they are, especially the last one, are not going to get him match fit. I remember at the beginning of the season half our lot, including Lescott looked a mile too slow, no one seems to be complaining now.

So, I hope AvdM gets a chance of a good run out and that it gets longer each game. DM must have some respect for him as he is still there WANTING to do it. As opposed to Big Vic who wanted away. Ego?s aside, Moyes was always going to win that one. And rightly so.

AvdM has paid his dues and wants a chance. I think Moyes will give him it.

Personally I think Andy should be given one final chance to prove he can make a difference, the lad is undoubtedly talented but the question is whether he still has what it takes to make an impact on the field.

Given the fact that Pienaar and Fellaini might not make it, I would think Moyes will go with Gosling and Rodwell although he may think more experience is required, in which case Andy may get the shout.

I think we’ll see him on the bench and then as a late(ish) sub depending on how the game goes, in fairness to the rest of the squad Gosling or Rodwell should really start ahead of him.

Having said all that, it would bring a massive smile to my face to see him turn the corner for us and become the player Moyes obviously thought he would be.

I think it says a lot about a player who’s been here for 3 and a half years and we can pick out one cross for his defining moment at the club!

To get back to the original mail....I thought I saw Shandy with the ball and the RS keeper charging towards him as if he was going to floor him but he pulled back at the last minute. The linesman at the Bullens End spotted it and that’s why he was booked. Back down to earth tomorrow!

During pre-season AVDM looked like he was finally in good shape and ready to provide us with some much needed options. He was playing with a lot of confidence but then got injured (again) and we haven’t seen hide nor hair of him until his two cameo appearances. I do think he did well in both those appearances but would much rather see Gosling be given a run in the side. With Pienaar and Fellaini both major doubts, I see this weekend’s match as the perfect opportunity to start Gos and then bring on ADVM as a sub to give him some much needed match fitness and provide us with another option. ADVM is not ready to start and play a full 90 but I do think he can make an impact with his crosses (as we are really quite good in the air). I think Gos is going to be a fantastic player for us in the future as his first touch is top notch and his composure on the ball shouts class (I would argue that Rodwell looks equally assured with the ball at his feet). The future is bright, the future is BLUE!!!!

AvdM may play against Villa with it being 9 days away.
It gives him time to finish the bender he’s probably already on, check himself in and out of rehab and get a taxi up to Goodison on the 15th.
For Notlob, Gosling and Rodwell deserve their chance a lot more than AvdM.
Good job we have Cahill, Neville, Arteta, Howard etc as role models for the young lads.
Lots of luck to Andy though. I have met him and he really is a nice bloke.
It would be fantastic for everyone, including Andy, if he could end this season, and probably his Everton career, playing football like we all know he can.

I nearly said ’end his career on a high’ but ......................

Anyone notice Stevie G trying to make (doe)eye contact with the officials in the tunnel before kick off? Maybe I'm paranoid but I'll be looking out for it the next time they're on (after all you wouldn't put anything past this uber creep).
