Seamus Coleman

Comments (9)

The transfer window came and went and it was widely reported the only piece of business that Everton completed was the loan signing of Jo.

Strange then, this morning whist watching the clip of our Davie on Setanta calmly walking out of the press conference I should notice the headline "Toffees finally snap up Coleman". So curious I then checked out the OS for any news of the transfer and found no headline news but lo and behold listed in the players section amongst our defenders Seamus Coleman appears without a squad number.

It appears not only Arsenal managed to extend the transfer deadline. I think this is good news and hopefully another young gem will emerge in the coming seasons. I just wonder why it wasn't more widely reported.

Yeah it went through before the deadline and was covered by the official site.

Any of the Irish lads know much about him?

Sorry Gavin, don’t really follow the League of Ireland but Sligo wouldn’t be challenging. I think someone claiming to be on their Reserve team was on here a week or so ago so maybe he’ll have some info.

My mate is a League of Ireland regular and he's seen him a lot. He reckons that he'll make it with Everton: loves to get forward, should've left the LOI a long time ago, very promising player. As far as I am aware, he's also two-footed.

He's very highly rated over here. Supposed to be the next Steve Finnian.

The Official site reported it on Tuesday. I trust Moyes?s judgement on transfers, and at 20 years of age and for £150,000 could be an unbelievable long-term asset.

I remember scouts flagging a young Irish player some years ago who eventually ended up at Nottingham Forest. What was his name again?

Oh yeah... Roy Keane!

If he is even half as good...

If he is half as good as Keane I?ll be delighted! :-)

It's good to see Moyes going with youth and making clear his plans to invest in the future, British and Irish too! :-)

Jimmy O?Neil, Cyril Lello, Don Donovan, Jock Lindsay, Tommy Eglington and captain Peter Farrell were Irish and featured in the 54-55 Everton side that earned our promotion to the old 1st Division. I remember them making the sign of the cross as they ran out of the tunnel onto the pitch. That was when the old lady got to be called the holy ground.

In those days the Gwladys St stand seemed half-full of catholic priests begging the Lord's forgiveness for little profanities that frequently slipped from their lips while at the same time sipping on their flasks of Irish whiskey.

A whole load of great Irish players has graced the English leagues, Keane, (both of them) Blanchflower and Best to name just a few.
