Which way Abramovich?

Comments (46)

Now that Scolari has been sacked the media have begun their guessing games as to who will be approached by Chelsea to take over.

The media theory is that Abramovic will go for somebody 'international' (whatever that means!) but it seems to me that if that means a proven international manager he has just tried that and sacked him.

I do wonder therefore which way Chelsea will jump on this one. It seems the big-spender days are over down there and Grant and Scolari (the more so the latter) have had to make do on limited resources and have failed.

Now, who would you (if you were Abramovic) consider if you wanted a manager who has been tested over a period of time and found to be eminently capable of punching above his weight and making the most of very little?

What are the odds on Chelsea making an approach for Davey during the summer (once Wilkins has been sacked too as he undoubtedly will be!) and (more pertinently) would he go if he was asked?

Or is Davey more likely to wait for the Man Utd job he is bound to be offered when Fergie finally pops his clogs?

Can?t see him going to Chelski boys and here?s why

1. He hates "superstar" egos
2. He hates too many over 30?s in the team.
3.He hates fat lazy cockney bastards! And Chelski are full of all 3! He?s building a young team here who will overtake Chelski sooner rather than later. And sooner rather than later we will find a new investor. And last but not least RAFA'S CRACKIN UP!
Sorry just couldn?t help myself !!

Hmm, I wonder which manager of a prem club has yet to sign a contract. One with ’international’ experience, one who hates at least one if not two of his current bosses, one who could attract foreign stars, even some of those with his current club, hmm, I wonder who fills the bill?

The first thing to note is that two more PL clubs are on the manager merry-go-round, not us. In my book its a toss-up whether Moyes would be less likely to go to them, or whether they would be less likely to offer him the job. Its just not unless Russia hits the skids, the plug is pulled, and CFC become a football club again.

Now, El Gordo the Graceless could fit their profile. Clearly more comfortable in Europe, loadsamoney manager, and although they would have to buy Torres, they wouldn?t need Gerrard as the fatboy has always really wanted to get rid of him anyway.

We had this debate last year when Moyes was out of contract. Amidst the speculation of Chelsea, Spurs, England and Manchester City? he signed with us.

Any glory achieved at Chelsea will always be trumped by the money. Chelsea (like Real Madrid) has become a manager?s graveyard. It is a short-term, high pressured job which comes with a guillotine, unrealistic aspirations and the surrender of total control of your football club to an inferior Russian mind.

David can wake up in the morning knowing that he is loved and wanted at Everton. Chelsea cannot say the same. His relationship with Everton, the fans, the chairman and the players is brilliant. He is on the precipice of history and could go down as a legend. At Chelsea his style of play won?t appeal to them, for that they?ll dial 1800 ? Mourinho.

Steve McClaren sold his soul for ambition and greed. He put himself above the aspirations and goodwill of the club and quit too early. Both manager and Middlesbrough have yet to recover.

He has aspirations of winning the title and qualifying for the Champions League. Can he do that at Everton?? I honestly think he can!

How sweet the victory on that day.

The Chelsea job will wait for him and will still be there when HE is ready. For now he should concentrate on being ?pound for pound? the best manager in English football.

Moyes will not go to Chelsea, I would honestly think Moyes would see that as step down. As Jason has said Chelsea are becoming a managerial grave yard and look what that?s done for Spurs, Newcastle, Man City and many others.

I think Moyes will wait for SAF to retire and then see where he is with Everton, If he?s made the progress and the board has backed him, continues to back him, he will probably stay, after all who would want to stand in the shoes of SAF and get compared to him throughout the rest of your managerial career.

It is not difficult for some of us to remember Matt Busby retiring and the managerial graveyard that Man United became soon after, leading on to relegation and twenty five years between titles.

Moyes as Scot would be very mindful of that.

It?s fun to speculate, don?t think Chelsea or MUFC will come after Moyes until/unless he starts winning trophies or makes us a regular in the CL. I reckon he could go to Celtic before then, it would give him a tilt at the CL. What Chelsea have done is staggering, it wouldn?t happen anywhere else, he?s still got 4 years on his contract at £5m pa, they?ll have to cough up £20m having given him half a season, I could fuck up for a fraction of that amount.

Moyes only signed a new contract this season which gives him a handy salary. Scolari is a good manager, so is the special one and Grant and they all got sacked. Would you leave a secure well paying job for that kind of risk?

Plus if Chelsea maintain their general method of appointing managers he will be well known and have a winning track record.

It’s hard to think of where Moyes will go. He has worked extremely hard to get to this point and has ridden many storms.

The lure of money may be a factor, but will he have the time and sufficient amount of control needed to do things properly? Look at Newcastle, Spurs and now Chelsea as proof that money and impatience brings an itchy trigger finger. Look at how Allardyce was treated at Newcastle having earnt his dues at Bolton. Look at the circus that is CIty as well and the problems facing Mark Hughes.

Moyes is no fool and I would be very surprised if he was take the risk of moving to a club where instant success is essential to keep your job.

Strange. Not one post saying ?hope he goes, can?t wait, he is terrible, we will nothing under Moyes, worst football I have ever seen, Sack him now, we are going to get relegated blah blah blah...?

It's funny how some sections go quiet when things seem to be going well, and then turn up when things aren't going so well saying ?I told you so, knew I was right etc.?

Moyes got creamed for the ?Fellaini-Gate? incident when he got himself banned. Yet nobody came back on after the good run we are on and said ?fair play, Moyes has done an excellent job?. Sorry if this seems a bit like gloating, but I scratch my head to think why some people still consider Moyes to be a bad thing for our club. I dread to think where would be now, had he been dismissed earlier in the season as so many wanted.

Back on topic, I agree with most other posters. Moyes has been ear marked to replace Fergie, and won't be going anywhere until that position becomes available.

Whilst DM would like more money at EFC, I believe he feels honoured to be at a proper Football Club with a rich and special history. DM correctly sees Chelski as the source of much of what is wrong with the beautiful game... I therefore believe his high principles and values (to himself, his players and his Club) would mean he?d also reject any approaches they made for him.

I think Peter Pridgeon’s on the money with this one. Darth Ferg, I believe, has Moyes pencilled in as his successor, but Moyes is a scholar of football, and will remember (or have read about) the carnage at OT after Busby retired, when McGuinness, O’Farrell and Docherty were shucked like oysters.

I’m probably wrong (it has been known), but Moyes is smart enough to know that the next ManU manager is a short-odds candidate for ignominy or a nervous breakdown.

This is Moyes's big club. His top Job. None of the top 4-5 would need or have him.

When Ferguson goes they will want a top coach to take over, or one of several old trafford boys. Giggs perhaps? Chelsea will go after a top coach whilst the money is still there. Abrovamich wants attractive football, free flowing free scoring. Don?t think Moyes has got to that level yet.

Moyes wouldn?t go to Liverpool.
Aston villa won?t replace O'Neill for Moyes.
Arsenal wouldn?t take a chance on Moyes.

What a total waste of energy all the above is.

It's simple: do Chelsea want Moyes? Answer: No!

Will Man Utd want Moyes? Answer: no!

Moyes is doing a great job building our club slowly as did Fergie at United but they are now a finished item and when he steps down they will want a manager with Champions League and international experience, it really is that simple. You can also rule out Hughes, Bruce and Keane for Fergie's job.

Which is all good news for us as far as am concerned ? we are heading in the right direction but it's going to be slow progress without additional cash... but then who wants to be another Chelsea?

I think that DM has more than proven his loyalty to Everton, and I do not think he would leave us at the moment. He still has plenty of unfinished business to do with us. If we were to win the FA cup and they came in the summer it may be different but I still think he would turn them down.

He is comfortable and in control at Everton, he is sensible enough to see that if he goes to Chelsea there may be more money than at Everton but someone else will be choosing where to spend it.

How modern journalism works (Part 99).

When asked on 5Live last night why they were no obvious British candidates to replace Scolari, Steve Claridge mentioned Martin O?Neill and almost as an afterthought began talking about David Moyes and how he deserved a chance at a ?Top Four? club.

Next week join Steve & Co in a handwringing, heartfelt debate bemoaning the irreversible imbalance in the Premier League when all the best players and managerial talent inevitably end up at the ?Top Four? clubs to the detriment of everyone else.

Currently he is our manager.

1) Go to Chelsea, be paid loads but be told by a scruff-bag zillionaire who you?re buying and who you?re not, plus be at the mercy of ?senior? players who believe they know more than you and will fuck you up should you ever dream of raising your voice in their direction.

2) Stay at Everton, be paid less (but still fucking loads) make every decision regarding the team and should anyone question your decisions, give them ?the stare?.

Much as we all like to speculate, Chelsea would probably choose a manager who has alraedy won things. If Moyes had won a World Cup like Scolari or a Champions League title like Mourinho then maybe he would go!! We all know how great Everton are but in the general perception of the money men we are not a big club. Would they choose a manager who has been at say either Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC or Inter Milan or like Hiddink, been successful with national teams qualifying for the World Cup, or go for Moyes who hasn?t won anything or managed what they would consider a big club? I think we all know the answer to that!!

And as for Manchester United, Alex Ferguson would be a hard act to follow and for a global brand they would want a big name. And much as we love Moyes, he?s not a big name in world football.

Let?s face it. David Moyes has won nothing for us. He admitted it himself at the weekend. Sounds like he?s preparing the fans for getting used to that situation. Luis Felipe Scolari was wanted by Bill Kenrwight a couple of seasons ago and was supposedly about to agree terms for us. He is a world cup winning manager with a proven record and is now a free agent. What are we waiting for ?

Yes, DM is a nice guy, but that?s about it. Is that what we want for this club? I say ? go for Scolari, now ? while he?s still in England and used to the Premier League and language. He even speaks the same language as Jo + Nuno Valente. He might even be the one to attract that long awaited foreign investment we?ve all been waiting for. Then with all that money we could think about buying someone like C. Ronaldo who also speaks Portuguese. I?ve it all worked out and demand the best for our club ? NOW !!!

Who care if it didn?t work out for him in London, or that it didn?t work out for Ramos at Spurs ? these are top class European managers and we need someone like that asap. Now, I?m off to tell my wife to shove off. I?ve finally made contact with Heidi Klum and hope to agree terms and conditions soon.

I seriously doubt David would leave here for the smoke of West London. He has a job to do here and will see it through, maybe some disagreement on that.

Everton have a long rich tradition, and believe or not, actually existed before 1997. No manager there is safe with Ambersonbitch or whatever his name is, I mean, seven months and Scolari is fired, he was never given enough time to show what he could do. This guy won a World Cup, domestic honours, and took Portugal nearly to glory. I liked Baron Greenback, sorry, Avram Grant, he did a fine job while there and was one kick away from making his team Champions of Europe.

Remember fifteen years ago, Chelsea were a mildly entertaining, lukewarm side not doing much, and due to the money of said owner, have come on leaps and bounds, even winning the title after a fifty year wait. But Moyes, not going to Chelsea, that?s good enough for me.

I really don?t think DM would chuck in his Goodison status for a career ?on the line? job in London. He?s too clever to do that ? most people would be. Celtic or Man U might be a different story.

James Marshall ? my previous post was written in jest at those who believe that one can just pump millions into a club and demand instant success ? over and over again. Doesn?t work. On various different levels see these 2 examples of ?money and arrogance not working?.

Ramos stolen by Spurs and dumped back to Spain months later. Scandalous.
Robbie Keane and the red shite?.. great player stolen by Anfield and now back home? wonderful.
Real Madrid do similar things all the time ? especially with managers. Zero consistency.

Look at the trouble Leeds got into years ago. The list of Footballs Financial Disasters is huge.

Consistency has been a big big factor in our rise up the table.
See DM?s dithering over a new contract earlier this season ? we also dithered in relegation zone at the same time?

I for one am delighted to be a Toffee ? with all its ups and downs. That?s what a marriage is all about ?in sickness and in health?.

We may not have won anything, but is that really all that counts? That Cup win last week has me on a high all week that no financial crisis will shatter ? followed up by a great league win. Loyalty is a wonderful and precious thing.
