Poor misunderstood Victor

Comments (31)

So Anichebe says it was all a misunderstanding (Radio Merseyside & Guardian .co.uk/sport). He never swore at Moyes or even spoke to Round etc etc. and it is now all settled? So the silence of Moyes at Friday's press conference was all for nothing & poor young Vic was not a naughty boy after all...

Will he be in Sunday's squad?? I doubt it. Many reports have said that he is big-headed & arrogant & his recent performances & body language on the pitch point only one way. End of season... OUT ASAP!

I've just read on the sky sport website, that the big useless ponce otherwise known as Victor Anichebe has no regret's about his training ground bust up with Moyes, as he states that he's not one to regret anything in life.

Well, Victor, I think you should have one big regret & that is the way you've embarrassed the club & supporters with your attitude & performances, your opinion of yourself is highly over-rated as you have been one of the poorest player's to wear a blue shirt in quite a while, & are a championship player at best. I for one look forward to the close of the season to see you off-loaded to Torquay United or to a similar club were the level off football will be on a par with your skill levels!

Hopefully we?ll be saying goodbye to Anichebe at the end of the season. He won?t be missed. Maybe he can have his dream move to Hull and then get relegated with them next season. If Vaughan hadn?t been unlucky with all his injuries, Anichebe wouldn?t have got anywhere near the first team.

You weren?t there, you don't know what happened, you don't know the guy.

If you don't rate him as a player that's your opinion, but you don't have to make it so personal.

Much has been said about this whole sorry episode but we have heard nothing by way of actual truth from either side. Yes, the lad was apparently out of order and in Moyes?s usual manner, he will be frozen out a la AVDM.

However, I think everyone is over-reacting a little in their judgement of the kid. He carried us in last season?s Uefa Cup when Yakubu was shite and Vaughan was injured; this season he has been played for the last 5 mins of a game or out of position on the right.

He?s a powerhouse and worth keeping in the squad if only for his upsetting of opposition defenders ? when Vaughan is back, then both playing together are one hell of a headache for other sides. Give the lad a chance, it's not like we can afford to release home-grown talent at the moment.

We are all (and I include myself here) SO FICKLE.

Who knows what really happened and remember last season when he was banging them in in Europe. No one had a problem with him then... If he is a genuine troublemaker then fine, good riddance asap, but that may not be the case and yes, he has had more than his fair share of crap games rencently, but he is still an Everton player so let's treat him with the respect he deserves.

I think some of the comments are classic sub editing from the tabloids, they will take a comment like the ?no regrets? one and use it to create a story from nothing, some of his comments have been taken completely out of context.

However, he?s yet to show any kind of form this season and he?s lost the crowd for good now, so best rid.

Yea and if he gets two goals in his next game he’ll be superman. As has already been said none of us know what was said, though there’s obviously been a falling out between Vic and DM. I think DM will give him another chance, if only because he has the physical attributes which should have defenders quaking in their shoes. Additionally he has scored some important goals for us in Europe and he surely has some potential; it’s primarily his attitude that appears to need sorting out and of course his game is not yet perfect but he’s only an apprentice at the moment and he’s thrown in at the deep end before he’s ready. Very few players are capable of that, WR for example !

Interestingly, on the OS he is down as being injured but his injury is listed as "unknown".

So, there you have it ? they don?t know what?s wrong with him (and for the record, nor do I).

......there is a lot of "he said she said" here. What we do know is that Anichebe asked to go on loan to Hull. Moyes said no. Why he asked- feeling that it would give him a chance at more regular football, more money, upset that Jo was brought in we can’t say for sure. We can only speculate.

What we can say for sure is that his timing absofuckinglutely sucked- before a crucial cup game with all our strikers bar him injuried. On the transfer deadline day. So we can deduce from that that Anichebe wasn’t thinking of anything but himself and not very clearly. We can reasonablely say he is not the brightest spark in the fire.
What we can also say for sure is that Anichebe has been given more than enough opportunities to impress at Everton and has failed to take them- one league goal in seventy odd games. He has put himself outside the mindset of this Everton team- it’s all about Vic. That is plainly not the way of this group of players.
So back to conjecture-I suspect next season he will have time to reflect on that when he is ineptly leading the line at Hull or Barnsley or Luton.

Peter Howard- not surprising the o/s lists his injury as "unknown".
It would be too embarrassing to list it as "head so far up his own fundament he’s blowing his own appendix".......

I think, as someone else points out, that there is a lot of tabloid editing.

We have to look at it in context of him being a young lad getting frustrated. Sure, he did wrong, and he does acknowledge it.

We should give the guy a chance. We are only jumping on his back because we are frustrated at his recent performances, and the fact that he hasn’t developed as much as we had hoped. Surely that happens to most young players!

If you’re in any doubt, read the full interview at :
http://www.kickoff.com/static/news/article.php?id=6680

I think he actually comes across as a mature guy. Moyes probably doesn’t want to disrupt the close spirit by bowing to tantrums, hence his stance.

It’s not nice seeing a product of the youth academy hitting the news for the wrong reasons, I just hope James Vaughan is taking note of all this as Vic has shown how easy it is to screw things up!

Whatever happened between Moyes and Anichebe is irrelevant, the lad has had the chance with the Yak, Saha and Vaughan out to try and make himself Moyes?s first choice as centre forward - he didn?t take it.

What is worse is that he didn?t even look like he was interested in trying to take it. If he had played with the commitment and effort of Cahill or Gosling then he would had earned the respect of the crowd ? he didn?t even try.

He seems to have an attitude problem that says "I?ve made it, Everton, Nigeria, Olympics" etc but if you really look at his career its very much as a late sub coming on and getting the opportunity vs tired defenders etc. Except for an odd occasion, he never ever looks interested and has started to repeatedly complain to all and sundry that he?d being fouled etc ? there?s nothing worse to fans than a moaning, lazy player and that?s what Anichebe has become.

Why do certain individuals in the support of this club always at the first point possible try and jump on the band wagon?

Whether its good or bad, I refer to recent incidents like AVDM came on and poked a cross in, which luckily Gosling managed to control and score, now reading various feeds, people are beginning to say ?Give the lad a chance?. Why?

Similar to this is with Big Vic, why give the lad so much grief? If he is low on confidence what good is booing going to do? Don?t get me wrong if he had thrown his teddy?s out or sulked off then fine get rid but nothings happened?. Why give him the abuse? He?s the only striker who we own, I?m not sure about the ins and outs of the loan deal but can Jo be recalled at anytime? Then where would we be? Yeah we have Timmy but what happens if he gets cut down by the Japanese?

There must be loads of incidents you can all remember over the years where a player gets ripped apart at first then comes good and worshipped by all! Daniel Amokachi anyone?

Andy Greenhalgh, I agree it?s a shame when we as Evertonians can?t get behind a player. I will only speak for myself, these are the reasons I think Anichebe has run his course with Everton

1- He lied, as does the official site btw- he wasn?t injured, certainly not enough to keep him from playing a reserve game last night.
2- He?s had more than his fair share of chances ? he hasn?t taken them.
3. Compare his attitude with Baines, Jagielka and Hibbert all who have struggled to get into the team at one point or another. Their attitudes have been exemplary, his is that of a spoiled brat. Even AvdM seems to have figured it out finally ? head down, work hard, push for your place.
4. Unlike other players who frustrated Evertonians ? say Duncan Ferguson, who?s disciplinary record was appalling ? he hasn?t built up a reservoir of goodwill. His performances just aren?t that good for a team with ambitions.
5. He has become more petulant and less focused in the last three months ? this is plain for all to see.

It all adds up to a player whose days are numbered ? at least with a large section of the support.

His record 26 games started 61 as sub goals scored 11- only two of those in the scored league in the last two seasons- this from Everton’s own stats.

He?s started 4 PL games this season ? on the right of midfield. Prior to this season he was only ever played up front, 10 goals from 19 starts ? the best stats at the club. Not my opinion mate, just official fact.

However, your 11 goals in 26 starts is better than the 1 in 70 you posted earlier.

Dave Wilson... so the 61 games as a sub don?t count????? And that?s 11 goals in 87 games - do the sums.
And starting in midfield - it doesn?t seem to hurt Tim Cahill......
Now if he started at goalie I might cut him a break.

My comment was basically. It would appear that he is at least trying to build bridges... But for Moyes to act in the way he did (the silence), something went on... If he is truly sorry & he does indeed get a further chance, his whole attitude & performance has to change drastically. He has now gained a petulant reputation for all the wrong things....

Jimmy, there are also many people who contributed that are of the opinion that talking unsubstantiated nonsense, like I said earlier if you dont rate him fine, but the hatred shown towards him is extremely distasteful. Take the first Anfield derby were Vic had a good game, I came home scanned through the match thread and found all the usual bile in there. I can only assume they were premeditated comments due to Vic being the majority's current whipping boy.
