Jagielka' s starting! I didn?t think he stood a chance of starting with Ferdinand and Terry (both of whom have been off-form tbh) ahead of him. Let?s hope he can push himself in there long term.

I?d have like to see Lescott in the squad also. But credit to Jags. He started of his Everton career on an uncertain footing but has developed into our most consistent performer this season. Well done Jags!

Yup, I remember being very uncertain about him at first, he’s more than proven himself though, cracking player.

Jags at fault for the first goal.

Jags wasn?t fully at fault for the first goal ? the midfield is almost non-existent and they should have coped with it just as much but didn?t.

Glad he has gone off now to rest for Sunday. Just hope that Agbonlahore gets injured now to add to the other crocks at Villa.

I felt Jags pass would have made it to a player if Carrick was willing to move to the ball. He moved to space but didn?t keep moving, Jags passed to the destination of his movement, and Carrick and Barry both just stood watching it. That incident apart I thought he looked composed and established, as if he?d been in the squad a good few years.

Easy for ITV pundits to make Jags the whipping boy as it means they don’t have to blame Carrick as that might mean upsetting the on-going "love in" with Manure. This is Jags first full game and Engerland are playing the number one ranked team in Europe. He has still had Ladyboy in his pocket again and will have learnt a lot from it which will improve his game for us. BTW Heskey and Agbonlahor have looked distinctly average, hope this continues on Sunday ! :-)

I have to disagree with Steve Guy. Agbonlahor has not looked average at all ? He?s been on the pitch but done nothing! Same with Downing and SWP.

Boy am I glad that I don?t pay to watch International Friendles. They are pointless and serve little purpose. As for Jags, it was a mistake but he was due one so lets hope he?s got it out of his system.

Jags was entirely at fault; at this level, as well as being a good defender you need to be comfortable on the ball and accurate with the passing. Jags is without doubt probably the best "defender/man marker" in the Prem but his distribution needs to get a lot better.

I think it's partly why Moyes would prefer Jags and Hibbert to go for the longer ball rather than try to play it out. Whereas on the left, Baines and Lescott are much more comfortable on the deck ? and that?s why we always look better attacking down the left.

Let's be honest, it?ll be buisness as usual for Jags on Sunday. Fucking world of difference playing against David Villa to yard dogs like Emile Heskey and Gabby Yourmumsawhore or whatever he?s called.

Get his name belted out before kick off, let him know were behind him.

Don't want to bear bad news, but Howard took a nasty challenge from Marquez of Barca that saw Marquez sent off. Howard limped the rest of the game but his mobility looked fine and he took a long kick or two afterwards.

Watched the US/Mexico game... Howard looked like he recovered well from the kick, and made one or two decent saves. Michael Bradley looked useful... scoring twice, including one great poacher?s goal... Blame the second on the keeper...

Good news... Howard is fine, just a bruise. Better news... he picked up a yellow card and is suspended, so he won’t have to report for the next USA qualifier, a brutal away match at El Salvador. Keep him home and rested.

Although Phil Jagielka did play a poor ball, which led to the Spanish scoring, I am sure Fabio Capello saw enough of our defender to include him in future squads. Considering that the side had many experienced players performing well below standard, let's hope Phil gets another crack, as he is without doubt, one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

He made of couple of decent challenges which is what he’s known for, but it seemed to me that he was out of position quite a lot, deeper than Johnson, Terry and Cole, playing Villa onside.

Unless he really impressed Capello in training I think he may choose to leave Jags out of the forthcoming internationals.

Oh dear Phil ? whoever it was up top who said it wasn?t Jags fault, I?m afraid it was in fact Jags fault. He played the ball to them and failed to stop Villa ? it was his fault!

Jags was at fault; I don't care ? I think he?s great.

Thought Heskey was a handful, Lips Agbonlahor invisible, Downing shite, only player who looked ok for us was Beckham. To be honest only interested in Villa players getting injured, I know that's terrible but it?s how I felt.

Spains interplay, passing, control and movement was great; watching that, it would be difficult to see Arteta getting into that midfield.

Who gives a shite whether it was his fault or not? He is awesome and he has kept the "mighty" Ladyboy Torres scoreless for the last 4 times he's faced him! I wonder how many defenders can say that. As long as he plays the way he has been against the Villa on Sunday, it doesn't matter. Spain made England look like Andorra last night, Shite. End of story.

Is it just me or is that (Jags/Terry aside) one of the worst England starting 11?s I've ever seen! No wonder England didn't score with that attack!!! How on earth is Ashley Young behind players like that! He's the one I'm worried about!

ITV coverage, as we know, is crap. When Jagielka blocked Torres in the box, the ball spun up, James dropped it and our Phil cleared there wasa no mention of his name. The Spanish cameras picked him out seconds later. No comment from ’our boys’.

Back in the studio, no-mark Andy Townsend picked out Jagielka as the reason for England’s defeat - "he can make mistakes like that at Goodison, but not at this level". What is his level?

London based players like Terry and Upson were name-checked whenever they put at tackle in. And, as far as I can recall, they weren’t criticised for their inability to get to a free kick for the second goal.

I hope that Capello is above all that - the longer he is in England (South East) the less so, I suspect.

Reading the Daily Mail the morning after, they rated Jag’s 4/10 - the worst rated England player.

What a load of utter shite. Ashley Cole, Gabby Agbonglahor, Sean-Wright Phillips, and Gareth fuckin’ Barry were all a lot worse..

It’s funny, as a Scot I thoroughly enjoyed wednesday night in Seville.

Jagielka was at fault for the first, but on that night, I not only forgive him, but thank him for it. After the frustration of expectations of Germany and Croatia it was a pleasant surprise to see Spain be victorious and deserve their title as European Champions. Can’t let an English defeat go without some comment!

Jags done well I think, he done really well against Torres and the rest of them. He got stuck in and really played well. Jags ran Torres off the pitch... he didn't stand a chance.

I think if you put all blame on Jagielka is all wrong. Seriously the England team all of em played a very bad game. Think of any player. Blaming all on Jagielka is just running from the reality. He started for the first time and the worst thing you can do is blaming all on him. Before the misplaced pass he didn?t do anything wrong (agree with Keith Glazzard). I hope Capello saw this too.

It would be all wrong judging him for the mistake and doing everything you possibly could when there were players like Carrick just standing and watching. Everybody comits mistakes and if Capello doesn?t realize this I think Capello isn?t a good manager. The feller did his best, and if you ask me which level Phil Jagieka belongs to, I would say the best. The only thing that can ruin his game at this time is confidence.
