“Toffees blow stuck in my throat” ? Savage

Comments (30)

Robbie Savage is gutted he never signed for us! ahaha...

Robbie Savage admits the biggest regret of his controversial career was not joining Everton.

"I could have signed for Everton on two separate occasions,"

The first time didn't happen because the price went from £3m to £4m and we pulled out, the second time he was being loyal to Mark Hughes.

The article suggests he will never play for a 'Big Club' now! Now, I know it's only Savage but I think it's great press for club, as we would have been the highlite of the former Welsh International's career!

Let this be a message to the promising talent coming through our ranks...

I always thought he was a decent player, one who opposing fans hate, and a very effective player in his days with Leicester playing alongside Muzzy Izzet. You could visibly see him winding opposing players up, a lot like Tim Cahill does for us now.

Thank fuck we missed out there, to be honest the list of players that turned us down in the 90’s and early 00’s and have gone on to do fuck all is a very long list!!

My particular favorite, I hope some others remember, is a player called Tommy Mooney who turned us down to go to Birmingham cos he wanted to join a club on the way up....not the way down!!

Twat!! Since realising his mistake he has gone on to admit how much of a shithouse he was in a number of articles & interviews.....such as

We didn’t need him when we had Cars and Grav and certainly had no need once the Arteta show moved into town... I think he would have sent out the wrong signals as to what level we were trying to become... still, Davey knows best.

Robbie Savage, so pleased you never came.
Ca’nt stand him.
The Vinnie Jones of his day.
Did make me laugh once or twice with his wind ups tho’
Still a narrow escape by us.

At the time I quite liked the idea of Savage coming, but not for £4million!

Just read the thing about Tommy Mooney, I think he was just a realist, knowing he wasn’t good enough, and as I haven’t heard his name mentioned for about 10 years seems he was right.

He was/is an absolute stinker of a player, all he does is run around and kick peoples ankles. At Derby he probably now just kicks peoples ankles as his "speed" has gone.

I groaned everytime at the suggestion that we were in for him, horrible wind up player that has been lucky for many seasons.

So glad that he never signed for us.

JL Slap, in that article, Mooney doesn?t "admit to being a shithouse" as you so eloquently put it.

He is actually rather humble (take note...) in stating that he didn?t feel he was a Premier League-standard player, and that he felt he would not do well at Everton and soon be off somewhere else.

If only every one in life was so honest about their own deficiencies...

Mr Savage has an Armani tattoo. Need we continue?

Is his tattoo on his Armani? Savage would have been a decent squad player but not a first team regular. However, he would have fitted in perfectly if Joe Royle had got him as a youngster.

My recollection of the first time he didn’t sign for us is rather different to his.

Tuesday July 14, 2004. Everton tabled a bid that apparently involved a small downpayment and loads of instalments that was laughed out of town by Birmingham City who went public on it with the Porn King, Sullivan in particular using as a chance to tell the world that they had more money than us.

I don’t think Savage was that keen .either.

Of course, it turned out to be a massive blessing in disguise as Moyes then used his very limited transfer budget ( Kenwright had no money and all Davey got was the money from selling Linderoth and Radzinski ) to buy the legend Tim Cahill and the absolute bargain Marcus Bent. We went on to finish 4th even after Mr Potato Head joined Manure. Somehow, with Robbie Savage I think 4th bottom would have been more likely.......

Karl masters... yer full of shite..

I know Robbie and he was gutted both times to miss out on Everton.. Circumstances were out of his control on both times he came close to joining us...

To say he wasn?t keen, is a comment from somebody who knows dick all about it...

Shame on you.

Robbie Savage said that?

Um, I don?t care.

Only if... Riquelme, Moutinho, Love or Saviola said something like that.

Always thought he’d be a good buy for us. A great grafter in midfield, just like cars. Was very good for wales too.

Never rated him as a footballer but actually got to know him quite well as he and his family were staying at the same hotel as me in Majorca one summer.
You couldn?t wish to meet a nicer more genuine bloke ? and his missus was fit!!!

Robbie Savage... Tommy Mooney... biggest one was Bougherra, the lad from Sheff Wed who turned us down to go to Charlton. He was the guy who Jimmy Mac nutmegged over his head before slamming in the volley in the last minute in April 2007 when we beat Charlton.

Great memory as I was in the hotel bar in Shanghai at 1am in the morning going nuts ? but where is Bougherra now? Glasgow Rangers ? what we always said, Walter Smith knows who to sign.

I?m with Gavin on this one. I?ve never liked Savage but admit for a time he would have been ideal for us. The good thing though is that now he wouldn?t be (in his prime even) as we?re in a different market entirely.

A near miss thankfully we missed that would have left us treading water for the length of his contract. Might be a nice family bloke off the field but an utter gobshite on it, imagine those type of wind ups in a pub on a Friday or Saturday night - he’d spend his life in A&E and looking for a good dentist. Not sure if he still has it but he also used to have a Humvee with massive chrome alloys and blacked out windows and loved to park right outside clubs and restaurants before climbing out to make sure everyone saw him.

The article mentioned 2003? If we look back at the midfield at the time, now this is scary:

http://www.toffeeweb.com/season/02-03/squad.asp

Replacement for departing Brazilian Pembridginho perhaps?

And we fell-back to Cahill instead? Bloody hell, who was the manager at the time????

If I remember a few years back, there was an advert on the telly featuring Savage?s Mum in which she says, "on a good day you can see Anfield from here and on a bad day you can Everton?s Ground".

Jeremy - the reason I called him a shithouse is simply beacause of the comments made at the press conference which I mentioned.... "wanted to join a club on the way up.... not the way down"

So his new found honesty is more lies in my opinion cos he played in the prem for Watford and are you telling me that if Brum had got up, he would of left??? Bollocks, he realises what a mistake he made & is dressing it up..... simple as. IMO
