Every secret thing

As supporters, we all have our views on the way forward for Everton. Unfortunately, we are totally in the dark.

  1. How much do we have to spend this summer?
  2. What is our debt?
  3. What happened over DM'S contract last autumn?
  4. What is the current situation on BK's 24/7 search for a new buyer?
  5. What is the board's current view on Kirkby?
Is it not time for supporters who spend hard earned cash following our club to be treated with a little respect? On the field things look good; off the field, is it not time for Bill Kenwright to tell the truth?

What is the state of Everton Football Club? How much better it would be to know.

Forgive me as I've had a few strong margaritas, sitting on the balcony of this rather nice villa in Cabo San Lucas... but how tedious is this?
  1. We have existed for many many seasons without knowing how much there is to spend. The club would be mad to tell you, me, or any fan, let alone the big bad world of money-grabbing agents out there how much they intend to spend. Don't be so silly. Live with it!
  2. £60M... £80M... what does it matter? Are you are shareholder? Even if you are, it's something over which you have no control. It is what it is. Don't worry about it.
  3. He made a little power play... he used it to underline his ambitions for the club and himself... as an opportunity to test the waters and see if there were any other big clubs interested in him... There weren't. He signed the bumper contact he was stalling over and upped his salary quite nicely. Does it really still concern you that much any more? Don't worry about it.
  4. Bill (or someone) said recently he is still looking "24/7"... however, smart people writing to thus website have figured out that's just so much bullshit. Nobody does anything "24/7", except breath... If there was a potential buyer out there, he would probably have heard of the golden Everton opportunity by now. He hasn't and so there isn't. It stands to reason. Does it really worry you that much? Just live with it.
  5. Current view? The only view we are going to hear is the one established for public consumption... you can't seriously be suggesting you don't know what THAT is? Destination Kirkby... full steam ahead. Of course that could change... but did you read all the stuff from Elstone about how wonderful the Public Inquiry was? The current view is the same it's always been. I'm seriously puzzled and concerned that you even have to ask...
And what's this nonsense about being treated with respect? We seem to get someone spouting this rubbish every now and again as if buying an obstructed view ticket and some merchandise tat entitles them to some binding contract with the Club that requires EFC to tell them absolutely everything about what is going on. Do you not know how ridiculous this sounds?

The state of Everton Football Club is what it is. I cannot conceive that knowing any more than you do right now from what you can read on t'internet would be of any meaningful benefit to you as a supporter. It may be of interest, but a lot of what you are asking for is "commercially sensitive information" that no savvy business entity would go blabbing about.

Honestly, Andy, you really won't get to find out much more, so you'd better get used to it! The sun's setting here now, and we're off out for a nice meal. The last thing I'll be thinking about is Bill Kenwright telling you the truth.

True, I’m sure all of us would like to know the answers to your questions. But as blunt as he puts it Michael is spot on. We will never know and its not in the club’s interests as a business to publish that information in public circles. Its not as if they can have a quite word with each of us and expect it to stay confidential.

Plus we already know a rough answer for these questions. We have no buyer coming at the moment, we are still skint and its still kirkby all the way.

Well spoken, Michael. I suspect that the vast majority of Evertonians are just more than happy that the Club is in good hands ? on and off the pitch ? and wish to focus their worries on how well we can do in league and cup from now until the season?s end.

At least this made a change from all the ’we can/we cant win without Arteta’ posts!!

Big worry, though, Richard is the firm suspicion that if it were Moutinho, Kranjcar etc or Kirkby, the team would be sacrificed for the move
We’ve been told on here often enough by ’real-world’ posters that the club lie for ’business’ reasons but A. Spokesman has told us the Kirkby money is in the jar on the mantelpiece
If so, hand it over for team building

Kudos to Michael

Enjoying (hopefully) a holiday in a beautiful part of Mexico and still finds time to continue his commitments to this site. I know how it feels and have had many a holiday spoiled by taking a laptop. Fair points all of them I have to say. Much of the original post was either poorly researched or niaive.

Sorry Andy.

Michael, you say: "he used it to underline his ambitions for the club and himself... as an opportunity to test the waters and see if there were any other big clubs interested in him ... There weren?t."

This is conjecture, pure and simple. You have no idea that Moyes was seeing if any other big clubs were interested in him. Rumour has it, for example, that Moyes?s single concern was that the club may be bought in the next year or two and that a director of football would be appointed. Moyes wanted to make sure his contract would protect him against this eventuality.

Again, this is conjecture but I think it?s only fair to post both sides of the story.

Ouch. Michael. Ok, late last night after a few beers my post seemed to me to be Paxman like in it?s righteous indignation. In the cold light of day it does look a tad different.

Enjoy your holiday.

See MK?s response. Pretty much says it all. Ridiculous post and, as Michael suggests, live with it.

For the record, Bill Kenwright made it abundantly clear what our position is on transfers etc at the EGM held last year. It?s all funded on borrowing, so we borrow more or less. This was known anyway. Furthermore Everton FC publish accounts every year. If you can find a business or a football club that publicly declares how much money it has available for players or acquisitions then let me know.

Stop being silly.

Brian

I wouldn?t take Michael (or anyone) THAT literally. However, Moyes was playing a power game. He also made public pronouncements about disillusionment and going elsewhere (if there were takers). This period did nobody (him, club, fans) any favours, rather it fucked up pre-season and the first 2 months of the season, leaving us playing catch up ever since.

I have moved on from my total dissatisfaction with DM for what happened then. Aside from the form, performances and togetherness that exudes from within, his demeanour is 180 degrees away from what it was then, i.e. he is clearly back in the zone and an Evertonian. Despite the occasional blip, or moment of lack of ambition, I?m very content.

Life is never perfect. But we have one of the most harmonious clubs in the league and we are going in a forward direction again, in almost every way. The glass is more than half-full so don?t be so bloody miserable.

1) £15 million.

2) £57.25 million

3) He stalled, realised no other club wanted him, then signed it

4) He’s sat by the phone eating a bag of crisps

5) "Let’s relocate this poxy club to Kirkby"

Michael & a few others. Although I agree with MK’s thoughts (for once! lol) I think that his view on point 3 is harsh and unfounded.

Many people a lot closer to me and (I imagine) any of you lot have stated openly that the contract saga had NOTHING to do with other clubs or ’testing the water’. Simply the frustration felt by all of us with the diabolical summer was felt by him x10 as he knew we had an opportunity and we didnt/couldnt capatilise.
DM obviously though he had reached a plateau with us and he had reached the mythical glass ceiling that this site loves so much, but after reflection he decided that it wasnt & there was still a job on here. I’m buzzing that he did as at this moment in time that man is priceless to us IMHO.
