Baxter and Rodwell contracts

Comments (4)

So what do we read into Baxter signing a 2½-year pro deal compared to Rodwell's 5-year deal? I presume it means that management view Rodwell as a sure thing and Baxter is still somewhat of a gamble. Although I hope Baxter becomes the star he is forecast to be, I also hope we do not see him leave for nothing in 30 months.

I know it is no reason not to offer him a 5 year contract but maybe the older is being paid more than the younger player and Everton hope that when the younger is offered another contract, say in 18 months time, that is equal to the older player’s that it will appear as an indication of Everton’s appreciation of him. It may also mean that Everton are still not convinced that he may not just burn out in the next 2-3 years.
In Moyes we.....well, obviously we don’t, do we?

Maybe Rodders has just got a better agent than Jose?

17 year olds are only allowed to sign a contract under three years. As per Rooney and Rodwell’s first contract.

Had it only been a 1 year contract offered to Baxter it may have intimated he was not really in Moyes thoughts.

Richard O’Hare is correct. We’ve offered Jose the maximum length of contract we can, until the end of the season after next. Expect him to sign a new 5 year deal on his 18th birthday like Rodwell if he continues to show promise.
