Barclay's Kiss of Death

Comments (18)

I have just seen that both David Moyes and Phil Jagielka have been awarded Barclay's Manager and Player of the Month. I seem to remember when we have won such awards they have been the "kiss of death" to our results and progress.

Are Sky Sports and Barclay's working together to make sure we don't make the CL? COYBs ? let's stick it to both of them!

I would like to congratulate DM on receiving the February's Manager of the Month but being a superstitious sole, hope that it doesn't go against us on Sunday.

All too often the Manager who receives the award, usually has a bad run.

We have had so much bad luck lately in terms of injuries, my fingers will be crossed until after the match against Middlesbrough. I will be there, let us make it a great day for the Blues.

Congrats to DM an JAGS for the awards for Feb. Manager and player of the month. Well deserving for both of them. Jags has been just terrific and in my book has been outshining John Terry and what can you say about DM grinding out results despite key injuries and getting immediate results from the youngsters as well.

I?m not sure ? I?m sure it?s in our news archives somewhere ? but I *think* the last time Moyes won the MotM of the month award, we beat the curse. Let?s hope the hoodoo has been buried!

Update: Not sure if this was the last time he received the reward but we did beat Blackburn 1-0 at home in February 2006 in the first match after Moyes was Manager of the Month, so we have done it before.

I know a curse that if an old lady with one tooth spits on u, it means u will go bald. Since this unsavoury incident happened to me 4 months ago I still have a full head of hair woo hoo. So dont listen to curses their bullshit

They will be very busy at Finch Farm working on a win come Sunday ? this will go close to unnoticed. Moyes and the players want this one, I am convinced of that.

I can?t really say why, but Fellaini and Gosling are going to be part of it. A bit Mystic Meg (who never got anything right) I know ? but it feels right.

Well done Davey and Phil. Both richly deserve these awards, about time too. Congratulations and keep up the good work.

Keith , you underestimate the powers of Mystic Meg , I seem to remember her tipping Everton to win the Cup in December ’83 and sure enough we ran out winners in 1984, mind you she may have tipped us every other year as well....
Andrew I think that old lady must have spat on me a wee while ago, although I was rather drunk at the time, needless to say I am in no great need of a comb.

I thought Mystic Meg only rose to fame with the launch of the lottery, which was November 19th 1994. (And I didn’t even Google that!)

What will the line up against the mighty Boro be?

Howard
Neville Jags Yobo Baines
Gosling Osman Rodwell Fellaini Pienaar
Cahill

Then introduce Saha....

Hang on! I Roylely messed that up! Exchange Yobo for Lescott and no Jags on the right and we?ll have enough to beat them.

I think the curse is only effective if the awards are presented before the game, then it is the kiss of death.

WHEN !! when we get to Wembley, please please please don’t any one buy something new just for the final, in 1968 I bought a new scarf and we lost. In 66 nothing new and we won, in 69 semi at villa Vs Citeh I took along a monster King Edward cigar to celebrate post match, we lost. In 84 I stuck with my old nearly falling apart Blue shirt and we won.

Michael, make this the official superstitions thread.

Did I mention I bought a new Arteta shirt recently?

Should I go out and buy the entire shite lineup? Villa? Arse?

My prediction is that you will not see Neville at full-back again this season. Moyes will keep Yobo sweet by making Jag?s move out wide semi-permanent on the grounds that he is a better defender than Hibbert and he needs the skipper in midfield. It's an almost identical situation to the way he sacrificed Lescott last season.

You can read this manager like a book!

Regarding Mystic Meg, I remember her saying our name was on the cup 1995 before the 1st draw and we ended up winning it!!! But then again, she owes me about £300 on all the dodgy lottery advice she gave :)

Hate to say it but think Trevor’s right: while we can go through all the team permatations we want, Jags will be at RB and Yobo and Lescott will be the CBs.

Therefore bugger all decent attacking down the right hand side for the rest of the season.

Team that Moyes will pick:

Howard
Jags Yobo Lescott Baines
Osman Neville Rodwell Pienaar
Fellaini
Cahill

This will also probably be the team for the rest of the season (except for Jo coming in for Fellaini/ Rodwell opposition permitting or Saha depending on if he can finally play 90 mins)

Roy you’re absolutely right and the reason I know is because I followed her advice and it paid for my season ticket.

Does anyone think our lame-shouldered international right back reservee will get a run or is DM too scared to try him out on case he goes bunk again?
Bit of an unusual deal if DM’s not going to play him when his position is open and he is taking players out of their preferred position to play there.
Having said that I think this game would be the wrong one for trying him out.

Call me a cynic but with the form Moyes has shown for sticking with his trusted soldiers and playing them out of their preferred position, versus the potential risk of dropping/resting one of them and throwing in someone who he has brought in himself, but for some reason is reluctant play.

I reckon the only way Lars is gonna get a game is if Phil Neville, Tony Hibbert, Jags and Joseph Yobo are all injured or suspended at the same time. especially after his whingeing during the week. I may be wrong though as I told my Dad when we were watching the Blackburn game that Moyes was not going to bring on a sub until the 88th minute and then he went and brought on Saha on 70 minutes.
