Cahill going... nowhere?

Comments (7)

I have been thinking of late why Cahill is still at Everton, allegiances and love of the club aside. He is clearly one of the better players in the PL and with his makeshift appearances up front for the Blues together with his now regular decisive goals for us, why he hasn't been poached or at least why an offer hasn't been made by one of the Sky 4.

Thinking about this, where would our Timmy fit in elsewhere? He probably wouldn't even get a start at United or Chelsea (or would even fit in with their over-rated ego inflated stars), he certainly doesn't fit Wenger's clinical style of play and he's too much of a blue to go across the park. Which leaves me with the only other clubs worthy of contention being Villa and Spurs, and why would he want to go there considering where the Club is right now.

Continental teams aside, which I feel is unlikely, I think we will have our Timmy on our books till the time he decides to make his way back to Oz and "retire" to play in the A-League. An Everton legend assured.

I think you've answered your own question pretty well there, Scott!

Regardless of what happens in the future in an age where loyalty is supposed to mean nothing we’ve many an example at Everton of loyal players. Yes, they’re well paid but the likes of Cahill and Arteta could easily have gone elsewhere for more money but have chosen to spend what seems to be their best footballing years at the club. I applaud them.

Timmy was due to go to Villa before us but injury prevented the move. Talking to a friend today about our players, we summized that Lescott and possibly Jags would be the only ones who would get regular games with one of the Sky 4. It works in our favour though, as in the young winger we?ve just signed was courted by the Sky 4 but chose us because of the amount of youth players who come into the 1st team, more a case of we can't afford to buy quality so we have to rely on the youth to make up a squad.

One place he will be going is to the corner flag to punch it?s lights out as he scores the opener in a 2-0 victory over Stoke.

I think we underestimate the ’against the odds’ team spirit that Tiny is a major driver of in Everton’s current set-up. Many pundits (including a recent ITV commentator have tried to get the transfer ball rolling - but I hope Tim realises that he’s so well on the way to legend status (ignore his lowly Times Top 50 status at present!) and a lifetime of adoration - that a move away would be completely counter-productive. He’s no midfield maestro in Our ’Tater’s style - but he’s a true royal blue grafter in the style we love - and god bless him for that!

I think Tim has more talent than people give him credit for. Of course he is known for his heading ability and goal poaching prowess but calling him a grafter is underestimating his ability.

As he showed last weekend against Middlesbrough, and on numerous occasions in the past for Australia, he is very capable with the ball at his feet. It just depends on how we wish to use him.

I personally think his is the most versatile player in the EPL (Jagielka would probably have something to say about that) and we should consider ourselves lucky to have him. Long live King Cahill!

There's one other essential reason why he stays Scott, and thats admiration, he knows we admire him... and he admires us.

Tim Cahill is a credit to himself and Everton Football Club. Living in Australia these days I can tell you he gets a fair bit of media attention when he is "back home". He always conducts himself impeccably, never big notes himself and always makes mention of the fact that he feels honoured to play for his club and his country. I believe he is underated. He is made of the stuff that makes me believe "we will be great again".
