More of Jo?

Just saw this article on the Echo site about the big Brazillian, sneaked in alongside a Cahill injury update...

What's most interesting is the suggestion that we have a clause to make the move permanent in the summer. After going the game myself last Saturday, and the jury still out on him, I wonder whether we could go as far to getting him tied down here, particularly when the price tag has got to be at least £10mil.
At least if he does find some consistency before the loan is up we might be onto something. Though you never know...

Well I've just seen a piece on teamtalk.com that Mark Hughes wants him back at City next season, claiming he?ll go back to them a much better player after the benefits of first team football with us, and that Jo?s still in his plans for next season. Hughes also says he had to send Jo out on loan because he couldn?t guarantee him a game with them signing Bellamy and other reasons.
What puzzles me is that Hughesy didn't play Jo when they didn't have Bellamy so is he really in his plans? It's funny how he wouldn?t give him a game at City but all of a sudden he?s at Everton scoring a goal or two and showing little signs of form and he?s in Hughes plans once again!!!
Personally I?m not convinced that Jo really figures in Moyes?s plans. I think if we are going to reinforce our forward line he is more likely to try for Wagner Love again, or an alternative forward with more of a proven Premier League pedigree.
Jo?s done ok for us though and he?s still very young, so the only way is up for him really.
I think Tim's right, I don't think really he's any more than a stop-gap for Moyes. If however he shows real progress and finishes 9 games with a good record, perhaps we can reconsider.
Personally I would rather have Vagner Love...
I?m not that convinced by Jo but he is very young and does have a lot of ability on the ball. The goal he scored on Saturday was his best I thought. A bit like Robinho, he goes missing when we play away at bear pits like St James? Park and the Reebok and Moyes won?t like that but Moyes is certainly giving him a chance and he must think more of him than he does of Jutkiewicz or I suppose Anichebe at this time.
Personally I?m not convinced by any of the strikers we?ve got other than Saha and Cahill. It wouldn?t surprise me if the Yak went to Spurs at some stage, Anichebe and Vaughan to the Championship, and Jo back to Man City. I would love them all to succeed at Everton of course.
Anichebe has the most potential of succeeding consistently in the Premier League in the long term. I think the Yak is too in and out and he needs to be fully fit, his attitude at times is questionable. I watched Vaughan be completely ineffectual when getting a start against Oldham in the Cup which didn?t bode well and he does have some big injuries to overcome, although nobody could doubt his attitude.
The Jo situation will depend on how much money they want surely as we can?t afford Wagner Love. I still think Cahill/Fellaini up front has made us play better football.
I was talking to Rob Newman (ex Norwich) at a game last night about Jo. He is working with Hughes at Man City in some capacity to do with monitoring City players. He told me that off the pitch matters (eg partying etc) meant that Hughes would like to get rid of him and Elano.
Think I had to agree with Tim and Andy about Vagner Love, though he’s probably going to be the more difficult to get hold of. From the different reports of Jo that are coming out it seems that there’s no gurantee he’s heading back to Man City, but also a lot of doubt as to whether he would carry on here.
As long as he puts in a good shift before the end of the season, I’m happy.
Hughe's statement must be aimed at critical City fans.He does not give Jo a game for months then buys injury prone Bellamy, who is now out injured! Hughes did not rate Jo, so even if he had stayed at City, chances are he would not be getting a game anyway.
A lot of City fans have always liked Jo and just felt, he needed a run of games. They were questioning Hughes for not playing him, let alone allowing him to go out on loan. Jo is working hard, showing potential and is playing with a smile on his face. Achieved under Moyes/Round and within our close knit team.
This makes Hughes look like an even bigger twonk than a lot of their supporters were already thinking. Now he is making out it is all part of his masterplan, which has always included Jo. Maybe aimed at the fans but also the owner? But possibly, making him look an even bigger twonk.
Jo still hangs out with the Boys from Brazil and is no doubt telling them how good he feels and what a great set up we have. Who knows how Robinho and Elano feel at City? Chatting with Jo is maybe causing unrest. Hopefully, Jo will continue to score important goals for us and have a great end of season. Make a decision then.

Well known that Hughes has fallen out with all the Brazilians (well - they only cost about £60M all told....). As Paul says, he looks a complete fool now and is just trying to save face. Who knows whether he will survive as City manager in the summer anyway, so his views may be irrelevant.
Jo could be a good buy at the £8-10M mark, and City may just be prepared to let him go to end the Brazilian problem. Or a new manager could come in and make Jo feel loved again. I’m sure Moyes is leaving this one on the backburner until he sees how Jo performs for the rest of the season.
If past summers are anything to go by, we will have probably between £10 and £20 million to spend. The fact that we will probably only play with 1 striker up front with Cahill in support for the majority of next season and Saha, Yakubu, Vaughan and Anichebe already here, I cant see us signing Jo in the summer. All the available cash we have needs to be spent in centre mid and on the wings.
I?ve actually started to like Jo over the past couple of games ? he?s definitely got a lot of skill. If he can carry on improving, he could be a very good buy.
Moyes won't have a big budget this summer, so I doubt he will splash £10mil on Jo. He must know by now that bulking the midfield is the biggest priority, you can have the best strikers in the world but if there is no service then those strikers will equal shit!
I don't think Moyes will buy a big player in the calibre of Mouthino but he will look at good passers and ball players like Arteta. He's looking at Juan Rodriguez, I?ve never seen him myself but his price tag is around £2-3mil.
I think Moyes wil buy several good players rather than spend the bulk of his summer chest on one player. A replacement for Arteta when he is injured and a couple of pacey wingers is needed this summer.
A friend of mine is friends with an agent, he said Mark Hughes spoke of him as a lovely bloke, but the worst professional he has ever come across.
There’s a long way to go to the end of the season, but if Jo does the business with us, and if we want him, the idea that Hughes will get a top class player back for nothing is a nonsense.
The player will want to stay and the clubs will have to come to an agreement (possibly a staged payment of some kind).
Loads of if and buts, but the idea that we are some sort of nursery for City is beyond belief.
I am a City fan, well done to David Moyes for getting some goals out of Jo.
It may be because of the imbalance in our squad and the fact that Jo, tall as he is, will never be a Duncan Ferguson type, but when Jo did play he was putting in some incredibly frustrating performances.
He didn?t seem willing or able to get with the pace of the Premier League and was not moving or contesting for balls in the box when they were there to be fought for. He never seemed to run forward in anticipation of receiving a channel ball but always seemed to be coming back towards his own team mates.
I was glad to see the back of him...
I really think Jo as a second line striker with Yakubu would be the difference between ?Big cup and ?Little cup.?
I heard some time ago that the Jo signing had nothing to do with Hughes. It was agreed long before he took charge and it had more to do with Nike endorsements in Brazil than ability.
I think another full season loan would suit both parties nicely?
If City are looking to sell Jo (which is an IF in itself) are they really likely to sell him to a competitor?
Especially since if City and/or Spurs get their act together over the summer, next season is likely to be more competitive ie cut-throat in the top half of the table.
Got to agree with the comments regarding Vagner Love. Fans would love having Love on their jersey too.
I wouldn?t take him on a free.
I think a 12-month loan for Jo next season. So we get Montinho in... did anyone see the goal he scored in the last Champions League game?

Wagner Love?
Have any of you actually seen him play?
Lazy and mediocre.
Tom Harries, "If City and Spurs get their act together" These 2 clubs have been trying to do this for the last 20 years with no success whatsoever, so I doubt next season will be any different. A bit like Newcastle some clubs are just born to be failures. There will always be something wrong with them. Just look how often they change their Managers and that says it all.
We are a top 6 club now and here to stay!
There?s no doubt that he?s potentially a very good player. But the problem we will have if we want to bring him in is that Hughes will be very unlikely to be at City past the final game of the season. No doubt the new City manager will want to take a look at Jo before he decides whether or not he should be in his plans for the future.
Moreover, if it turns out to be the case that Everton do want to sign Jo, it would also be the case that Jo has shown good form. Therefore, there seems no reason for the new City guy to rid himself of Jo and his potential.
