Dubious Progress

Comments (11)

Three months after he scored it, Mikel Arteta has a goal taken away from him by the 'Dubious Goals Panel'. Steven Pienaar has been afforded the same honour already this season. As we have a day or two before the lads get back to work, can anyone shed any light on what goes on here?

Do they make many such pronouncements ? against Sky4 teams for example? Were they called on to award the goal to referee Stuart Atwell when he awarded a goal to Reading when none had been scored against Watford? Do they review video evidence to determine whether cheating divers go on to score penalties which add to their goal tally?

And why did it take three months? Did a Sunderland player appeal to have an own-goal recorded against him?

I really couldn’t care less.

It went in, it was given - good enough for me! Personally I’d be quite happy to benefit from an og every week if it meant we were winning. I would guess that most (if not all) of the players would feel the same.

Like Steve says, a goal for the Blues no matter how it goes in is great in all our eyes, so who cares.

Pointless panel with a pointless job, I mean how can anyone take them seriously when you consider the goal they gave to Crouch that took two defelections and ended up being punched in by the goalie? Says it all really...

Keith, You're a lucky man if this is your biggest worry in life!!

It?s a goal ? I couldn't care less who scored it.

The dubious goals panel is a group of blokes, mostly ex-players I think, who get paid to sit about and do fuck all. One of them has probably thought, ?shit we haven?t overturned a goal for a few months now, we may have our pay and perks cut?. I think civil servants do a similar thing.

Fellow Blues this is the FA and the media pathetic attempt to tarnish what we have done in the past few months.

Facts are we are going to Wemberly and the FA and the media are just angry that EFC has made them look like fools yet agian by doubting us and writting us off.

Steve, I disagree totally, I think the players would care A LOT if you took away each of their goals and replaced them as OGs. Yes the most important thing for them (most players anyway) is the team, but you can?t seriously think they don?t also judge their season on their own performances too, including goals scored?

I was reading "Sharpie" the other day and he said he didn?t enjoy winning the title in 1987 as much as 1985 because he hadn?t scored as many goals. Now I know in Arteta?s case it?s only one goal, but you get my point. Goals matter to players and I?m getting fed up of this panel of no-marks taking them away from ours.

Ahh Paul, so that?s why it was given as an og. Because it is all a conspiracy against us by the FA because we are going to Wembley. Boy, some of our fans need to get a life.

I agree a goal is a goal but this dubious goals panel just seems like more unnecessary FA bureaucracy. It should be scrapped. Paul Lambert, I like a good conspiracy theory but this is less theory and more truth. The FA and the media have been screwing us over for years so why should they stop now. Imagine if we get to the final?? Oh they wont like that!! Tough i say. COYB!!

I agree a goal is a goal for the team; however, as funding for new players becomes tighter, we may have to look at offloading some of our assets and goals equate to pounds in the transfer market... Not to mention the positive effect they have on our players, as has already been stated.
