Thanks Rhino

David Unsworth has announced his retirement from the game at 35 and I just want to wish him the best in the future. In an interview he said "I love the club and its fans". Well, Unsy we loved you. You had a superb left foot and you always gave 100%. Thanks!

I?d noticed that Huddersfield had just released a player named Unsworth and was wondering if I was our Rhino. Good luck to for the future and thanks for being a part of the Everton family.

I loved Rhino when he was at Everton and was always confident when we got a penalty cause he was awesome when it came to stepping up under pressure to slot it in. Did he ever miss a penalty in his time at Everton?????

I think he missed one, but slotted the rebound in IIRC. Rhino was the Phil Neville of years gone by, a true professional who many fans slated due to lack of technical ability and he had a penchant for hoofing but I thought he was class.

Amongst other notable performances (i.e Moyes’s first match) he had a cracking game against Man U in the 95 cup final, he didn’t give Mark Hughes a kick.

Great memory of Unsy ? I brought my Mexican wife, Mariela, my 10-month-old boy, Jonathan, my Swiss mate Roger and his Mexican wife, Ruth, to Goodison in September 2002 for a Tuesday night match against Birmingham. We traveled from San Diego, California!

My cousin Mick Shelley had them run a greeting on the scoreboard welcoming us to Goodison from sunny California. We went down 1-nil to a Stern John penalty ? we thought the trip was about to be a great disappointment when in injury time Rhino smacked a left footed volley into the back of the net to tie it up 1-all!

He made the trip worth it and I have it all on video ? ta Unsy, or as my Mrs would say ? GRACIAS AMIGO! COYB.

Unfortuately slipped on his arse in his one England appearance. I think the Nevilles and Scholes etc were making their debuts also.

And yes, totally dominated in the Cup Final, pushing Hughes way off the ball when he tried the same with Unsworth... top player.

He was one of my favourites. Always remember him for grinning at Robbie Fowler when they both got sent off in a game at Goodison. Good on you, Unsy, you made sure you didn?t get sent off on your own! All the best and hope to see you back at Goodison on the staff one day.

I had the pleasure of meeting David Unsworth at one of those "meet the players" lunches that they used to have at Goodison. It was also memorable for me because Joe Royle got out the FA Cup so we could all have our photos taken with it. Not many get to lift the FA Cup, I was lucky but Unsy deserved it.

Good luck to him in whatever he decides to do. 100% on the pitch and always gave his best.

When he first broke through, he was unbelievable. Quick, strong and read the game perfectly. For some reason he was never the same after the Englend appearance against Japan.

But as a servant to Everton he was massive and always gave 100%.

Top player and top pro.

Unsy had his critics and maybe he should have played Rugby League instead but he stepped up to the plate on many occasions and put those penalties away. Good on you Rhino.

My favourite memory of David Unsworth is a picture of the lad, just after he left the Blues, standing amongst the fans having bought his own ticket. I can't remember the game but I will always remember that picture of a player who was also a real fan at heart.

He always had the sort of attitude thats needed in an assistant manager ? I could see him being very hard on players who are not giving EFC everything they had.

Ray Said, I’m sure the game in question was against the shite.

Cheers Andy ? I was probably a bit worse for wear but the sight of a pro footballer sitting amongst the fans was so unusual in this day and age that it made a real impression on me.

Big thanks to Unsworth for his service to Everton! I remember him leaving West Ham for Aston Villa and he signed for us again after a couple of weeks! He always gave his best and wore the shirt with pride, that?s what it?s all about! He also kept Wigan in the Premier League by scoring a penalty on the last game of the season against Sheff United, who got rid of him that same season!

He was once described on these pages as "an accomplished proponent of the angled hoofball". That he may have been, but he will still live long in our hearts for his dedicated service to the club.

The same mentality as Cahill, he would run through a brick wall for Everton... not that there are many brick walls on the pitch ......... ermmmm... you get what I mean.

One word: LEGEND. When others around bottled, he stood tall. I will always remember him knocking the crap out of Fowler and Mark Hughes, and laughing at Roy Keane's attempt to wind him up by offering him out in the carpark ? and that was at Old Trafford!!

Stubbs and Rhino ? future mangement team at Everton. God help anyone who plays shite under them!! God Bless, big man... don?t be a stranger.

Ray, I think it was the shite the game you?re thinking of, the 1-0 Carsley derby. I was in the Top Balc and I could see something going on in the Gwlady. At first I thought it must be a kick off, but then everyone nearby started singing "Rhino! Rhino!". Class that he chose to sit in the Gwlady during a derby rather than a corporate seat, even if he did have to move after less than 20mins!

Thanks for the years of top services Unsy. Would be great to see you back on the staff.

Loved Unsworth... still do. 100% all the time. He used to come in for a lot of stick but still battled on. I can remember his 1st against Spurs like yesterday... think it was the equaliser in a 3-3 draw. Good luck, Rhino.
