The future of Jô

Comments (12)

Setanta have an interview with Jô about his future where he clearly states why he wants to stay at EFC:

"If I had to choose, I will choose to stay at Everton, but if I have to go back to City I will go back...... The people here have given me so much more support, I felt it from the first moment I came to the club and every footballer needs that kind of care. Phil Neville is never too far away, always asking if I am okay, if I need anything. But it's all of the players, not just Phil. They have all looked out for me. It feels like Everton is my home now."

Apparently, he has had no contact from Mark Hughes[?].

Question One: Do we need him?
Question Two; What should we pay for him?
Question Three: Will he get better?

1. Yes - if the price is right.
2. Ahhhhh...now we are talking EFC so can we get him on payments, say, five quid a year for the next bazillion years?
(Seriously, this is a tough one given the lack of funds.)
3. Yes - definitely.

Maybe I’m just saying this cause I just saw him score, but Jo is a great player who will get even better. If we can get a hold of him for less than, say, $10m, then we should definitely try. Or a full-season loan would be great. Is he better than the Yak is the real question, but I would say yes.

1. Yes - He is very young (Saha wont last)

2. We won?t match what City want. They will want £12-14m and we would not want to pay more than £10m over a few seasons.

3. Yes.

We need him or someone like him. We really need to boost numbers whilst not losing quality. Wether or not we will have the money to do that is another matter though.

There is more pressing areas like a new right winger, left winger and playmaker before we need a striker at his price. Unless we can swap him for Yakubu?

I’m not sure about him yet, all his goals have come at home so far so until he starts netting a few away from home I’m not convinced he’s what we need.

Jo gets better with every game. With a run of games and a good pre-season behind him, he will be a top class player. I fear, however that City wil take him back.

I think he?s excellent! I think with him & Fellaini there is even more belief along with the much mentioned ?team spirit?. He respects the existing squad members & their character. He seems more than happy.

How much control does a player have over his future in a loan situation such as this? If any team are able to suffer financial loss then City is the one & tabloid chat leads us to believe he?d be kissing the badge ASAP?

So I say put a ridiculous ?Brighthouse?-type payment schedule together & buy him if he?s available & consistent 'til the end of the season.

I think it all depends on whether or not Mark Hughes stays as their manager. Hughes evidently doesn?t rate the guy. If you read the interview, you could even go as far as to say he has no time at all for Jo.

Now, presuming he pleases the Arab paymasters enough in this first, most turbulent season (qualifying for Europe or achieveing a decent enough place in the Uefa cup) then he?ll keep his job and is more likely to want to get rid of Jo for whatever?s easiest so he can bring in Benzema/Ibrahimovic/Henry/whoever.

In which case I think that they?d be willing to take something less than a 50% hit on him (somewhere around £8M).

It's if they get a new manager that there might be problems.

Beholden to the Man City managerial merry-go-round... Who?da thunk it.....

I think him and Yakubu are completely different types of striker, but I don't think I'd choose him over a fit Yakubu myself!

When Yak?s on form, I get the feeling he could score every time he gets the ball. Jo doesn't give me that confidence... yet!!

I think he is geting better but after the start he made that wasn?t hard. I still wouldn?t pay more than £2m for him because despite his goals his overall play is still piss poor. No touch, no strength, no pace, no work rate.

I would be very surprised if David Moyes went anywhere near him in the summer.

The lad is a natural goalscorer who keeps his head when in the right position. I think he is adjusting well to the Prem and will improve his all-round play with more games. However, like everyone else, I believe City would want too much and may keep him themselves to play alongside Robinho next season.
