Rodwell Rumour

Comments (17)

The People say Arsene Wenger is plotting a £12m summer raid for the Everton starlet!

I was just wondering what other people's views on this were if it were not a rumour!? The kid obviously has talent so why wouldn't Arsenal want him?

In my opinion even thought it's £12m in the bank (or someone's pocket... ahem), we should be looking (for more money) to keep hold of this one.

Sorry to say this but I live in London and for my sins know many Arse fans, some with pals in club staff. It seems AW rates Rodwell highly and it?s an open secret he wants to buy him. This talk gets to players and turns their heads. It's how it?s done now, to "soften" a player up.

Oh, and another one I’d heard though not seen on this website was that Yobo is on his way to Real Madrid. Any truth in this rumour?

Ramsey plays on the wing, Rodwell’s a holding mid or centre back.

Yobo to Madrid I can’t see but I did hear Yobo to Arsenal which is definitely possible

So Wenger wants to buy Lescott and Rodwell and Yobo. Is there anyone else he wants? He was after Arteta as well wasn’t he? What about Cahill? He also tried to sign Pienaar last season, didn’t he?

So what if Wenger rates any of our players, Arsenal doesn’t have any prestige anymore. I very much doubt any of our players heads will be turned by Arsenal. Besides, Fabregas, Adebeyor and Van Persie are all leaving!

For me, this is yet another example of the press proving yet again what a bunch of pricks some of them really are. Over the last number of years, every time we as a club move forward, the press are there ?creating? stories to try get our better players to leave. Hopefully Moyes is man enough to stand up to the bully boy media and tell them all to go fuck themselves.

If Arsenal came in with £12 million cash up front for Rodwell then I'd say take it. We could perhaps get 2 or 3 players for the squad with that money and I don't quite see the ?world class? player that some seem to on here. If selling him meant that we could add to the squad and keep the likes of Arteta, Lescott etc then it would work out well in my opinion.

Assuming there’s any truth to this rumour, and it’s not just the usual transfer bollocks, I’m just wondering which part of "he’s just signed a long term contract" does the arrogance of Wenger not understand??

When we take the Arse for 4th place we will be bidding for Walcott.

It's ok ? We will pip Arse to 4th place on the last day of the season and beat them in the Cup Final the following saturday. Then their players will want to come to us.

Rodwell is young and English - I thought the going rate for young English players who can pass a ball straight ahead was at least £20m. £12m can buy you a knackered non-scoring striker who’s prime asset - his pace - is fading out.

OT: Keep the lad. If he becomes as good as we all hope/expect he will be worth at least 4 times £12m (although in that case I don’t want to sell him - ever). If he doesn’t come good we’ll still fetch £8m or so for him in two years. Worth the ’gamble’.

I don?t think it makes any difference if he has just signed a long term contract. Contracts are worthless these days. If Arsenal come in for him he is going to want to leave and for £12m, I would be happy with that.

Still can’t understand why some people fail to see the class this lad has. He ouzes quality. His ability to control the ball and move it on (even when surrounded by opposition) is second to none. Of course Arsenal fancy taking him, but I say keep the fella. We desperately need a player of his quality. A star in the making, I am certain of it.

Not sure how much credence to give it but there was an article in The Post a few days ago, saying that City were making a £25m bid for Arteta and Lescot plus Jo thrown in for good measure. I guess that would take the bid up to £30m or £35m. http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/everton-fc/everton-fc-news/2009/04/02/man-city-line-up-bid-for-joleon-lescott-and-mikel-arteta-92534-23293005/

Just wondering what people's thoughts on this are? It's a fair whack of transfer dosh but my initial thoughts are that we are building a really good team at Everton and to swap a couple of keys players would be madness. Lescott and Arteta are both quality and are proven at Everton. Even with a load of cash there is no guarantee that we could replace them with better players.

I guess it's a compliment that City are interested in our players to try to fast track their own team building. IMHO, they have lost the plot. Despite all their money, they seem to have no idea about how to build a team. I'd be starting with replacing the manager if I were them. It also puts in perspective what DM and staff have done over the last few years with a fairly low nett transfer spend. Also, the patience of the board, albeit that they hadn't got many options, has helped too.
