Just read on offical site - Mr J.Vaughan will start for the reserves tonight!

Oh how I hope that he can get some fittness and sharpness back and finally get the chance to deliver what he has promised!

To have, Jo, Saha, Cahill and Vaughan available up front will certainly give us good options going forward for the final furlong of the season.

I like Vaughan, if he can stay off the injury table for a full season we will (hopefully) reap the rewards of a young, fit and goal hungry striker!

Si, I fully agree with your view of James Vaughan, but unfortunatey, the boy can be too brave for his own good.

Let's hope he can learn from the past, and not always go in where it hurts. I suppose the problem with that is, it may take something out of his game?

Let?s hope that Vaughan can get fit asap because we badly need him. If he could ever get a run in the side, I think he will be mustard. When he has had a significant amount of time on the pitch, he has usually made a big impact, so I believe this kid could be a great player.

He needs a good few games under his belt and I doubt we will see him in the 1st team for a while just yet. Not sure if he has enough about him to be a lone striker, he would end up being and AJ or Marcus Bent chasing every lost cause there is, but never being in the right place to stick one in. We shall see though hopefully.

Is he really that good?

And by good I mean ? a talented footballer... not committed, passionate, enegertic or any of the other euphemistically challenged adjectives that people use in the absence of actual footballing talent.

Ciaran, that?s some surname you got there. I know a few people who played at a junior level with Vaughan and they all say he was is something special. The problem is that he needs an injury-free run; after all his woes you have to wonder if he?ll ever reach his potential, here?s hoping.

Great news to have him back! I still remember the final game of the season at Stamford Bridge two seasons ago (robbed 5th place by a terrible offside decision) when he completely outplayed Terry and Carvalho, scoring one and having a bicycle kick saved straight after.

Now I know his injuries have held him back and people will argue that this was two years ago, but at times even this year (West Ham) he really can change a game with his running and commitment. I for one am delighted that we have a quality striker back to replace Jo?s spot in the squad at Wembley.

If Vidic continues to play as badly as in recent weeks, Vaughan is exactly the sort of player that will expose him.

Fair enough Marcus... we can always hope. In fact, I?ve hoped for a kid I've seen in the Milk Cup called - Hallam Hope!

But this club is littered with players who were revered as the ?next big thing? in underage teams... To be honest I haven?t seen this potential in Vaughan. I just hope he stays injury-free long enough to make a decent career. Unfortunately, I don?t think it?ll be here.

Ciaran, I dont think I have seen a player as brave and as commited as James Vaughan, he has all the attributes needed to be a top Prem player.

When he has had a decent run in the side, he has produced the goals, as well as fantastic all-round play. Whoever he is up against he has given them a hard time.

I also struggle to think of a player apart from Rooney or Gerrard who can lift a side just by his presence on a football field. His 100% commitment and never-say-die attitude shames his fellow team mates into lifting their games, making the whole team improve 100%.

If he can stay fit it would be like a new signing, ;) and a £20 million signing at that.

James Vaughan is my favourite footballer in the club. I was devastated when he had one injury after another. It is really incredible, the amount of bad luck the lad has suffered. I really feel that this is the final chance ? if he gets injured one more time, I think he will pack up his bags and leave the club.

Just praying and hoping that he turns out to be a great player for Everton.

Made up Vaughan?s back cos like most fans, I?ve got a lot of time for him.

But I agree with Ciaran, I just haven?t seen this potential to be "world class" or "a £20m signing" that others say. Maybe he does just need an injury-free season? If so, then let?s not rush him back like we always do just because we?ve got an anorexic squad!

I was lucky to spend time at finch farm yesteday watching the players train (I have just posted an article detailing the day).

James Vaugan did extra shooting practice with Carlo Nash and Castillo. He was banging them in all over the place, his knee was moving freely and he was in good spirits. He has awesome power in his shots. I would say will have 30ins in him at Wembley!

Nice to have James Vaughan back as he adds to the competition for places. Once fit and injury-free, Vaughan is a goalscorer of high regard!

We have a plethora of goal machines at the club right now, Moutinho could be on the way (I hope), European qualification is almost certain, Rodwell is the next big thing, and Wembley beckons.

I think it could be another good year!

I love Vaughanie to death but the problem seems to me to be not bad luck but bad judgement. My perception of him is this highly committed player who just can’t help but go in really strong to win the ball back.

I don’t believe Moyes as ever rushed him back into the side, his reintroductions always seems to have been careful and progressive, as if Moyes himself is paranoid with fear ? and justifiably so ? that the lad will re-injure himself. And sadly that has seemingly become an inevitability.

Let’s hope something’s changed this time around... but the risk is, if it has, it will subtract from his all-in gung-ho style of play. Who’d be a manager. eh?

Ciaran: Here’s a few of his attributes, and these are attributes that make a good footballer:

Very quick, powerful shot, useful with both feet, good in the air, especially at directing his flick ons to team-mates, instinctive finisher, 100% committed to the Team, hard to dispossess.

On the other hand he needs to use his brain just a bit more and at times conserve his energy and avoid chasing lost causes and putting himself in danger of injury.

It should be remembered that he has only actually started 10 games for Everton, but he has scored 7 goals. I sincerely hope he stays fit and gets a run in the team because the player we saw around this time 2 years ago was the best prospect we have had bar Rooney in the last 25 years.

Vaughan deserves some luck, if he stays free from injury and regains his fitness, he will become a world-class striker. He has the awareness of Jimmy Greaves around the goal and the touch of Trevor Francis. He will be playing for England and Everton if he can stay fit.

Basically agree with everything that?s been said. The lad really needs an extended run to prove his fitness but the season?s end is not far away and I doubt he will figure against Manure.

Here?s hoping all the injured players get back to full match fitness so that we can really get going against the big 4 next season. The season?s been a tremendous success given all the problems and in my mind DM should be undoubtedly Manager of the Year again.

A few years ago I wondered if he was the next Wonderkid or just another Cadamarteri, I am no nearer finding out. It seems the more injuries he picks up the more some fans think he is the Messiah. It is almost Royle?s quote about Dunc being a legend before being a great player all over again. I wonder if AvdM had crossed for the derby winner in his first game then been out for three years, would he have got a better press?

I am afraid some players are just injury-prone and we may never find out their potential. I would love him to score the winner at Wembley but think there is just as much chance he might be out with Dutch Elm disease ? about the only thing he hasn?t had yet.

You're all talking about a striker who has scored just 7 goals in 4 years.

Vaughan has been on the Everton books as a striker for the last 4 seasons and all he?s managed is a paltry 8 Premier League starts.

There?s potential there no doubt but there aren?t many players who have contributed less to the Everton cause over the last 4 seasons. If Saha scored 7 goals over the next 4 years all the fans would be demanding his release.

Sure, Vaughan is back again. How long till the next injury? How much of that potential has been lost through injury? How much pace does he have left after so many injuries?

I?m sorry but Everton are trying to break into the Top 4 and the squad is already small without carrying passengers like James Vaughan who can only managed a handful of games per season.

Next season, if he doesn?t play at least half the games and score at least 10 goals then he has to move out the way and let Baxter or Agard have a their shot.

Genuinely glad to see him back... I would say excited, as like many here I truly beleive he has the attributes to be very special ? different to Rooney, but potentially as exciting ? seriously I think he?s that good. However, I?m not convinced that his playing style will allow him to remain injury free given the battering he?s already taken.

David ? I was referring to JV in the context of the training environment. Given he only resumed training a few weeks ago he was moving with ease and had amazing power in his shot. One shot he took from the edge of the penalty box and rifled the ball into the roof of the net.

This is in training mind, I'm sure it will be more difficult with a defender breathing down his neck.

I’m really pleased James Vaughan is back. In my opinion he’s worth preserving with for at least another season beyond this one. Love his passion and commitment when he’s been given his chance and that is allied to genuine ability. I’m hoping that he can stay injury free now and convince his detractors of his worth with an extended run of games. It would be a great shame if this boy was not able to show his true potential.

Hopefully Vaughan can work on his fitness in the coming weeks and he’d be a great option to have on the bench at Wembley to put Man United under pressure with his workrate and pace.

Going a bit off the subject, who do people think will start upfront in the semi-final? Jo is cup-tied leaving just Saha and Vaughan (neither of whom will last the full 90 mins) unless Fellaini pushes up alongside Cahill, but then there is no Arteta to fill his place in the team. Maybe Saha will start and Moyes will just have to see how long he can last?

Hate to be pesimistic here, fellas, but neither James Vaughan or Big Vic are good enough to be future Everton stars. The promise has been there for 4 or 5 seasons now and by now we should be seeing what they can do but we?ve seen nothing yet. The best thing for both of them is to go out on loan next season to the Championship and see if it?s at all possible to get a good run of games in.

Don?t get me wrong I?d love to see the both of them make it, especially Vaughan, but how long can we give them before we have to say that they?re not good enough?

I have to agree with most of the posts here. James Vaughan has the potential to be a great striker but, through a series of unfortunate injuries, has been unable to step up to the mark.

If Vaughan stays injury-free he will be a star.

As Andy Holden once said of him "when he's fit and injury-free he will be unplayable, then you will see the real James Vaughan". He really could be that good.

Moyes knows he's got a potential star on his hands, and is keen to nurture this, and do it discreetly without causing too much fuss.

We should all sit back, relax and look forward to seeing him blossom. And most of all ? give him time.

Seriously guys, he?s been injured just as often as AVDM.

Technically he still needs a lot of work but he is a talented player, his strengths certainly outweigh his weaknesses. The only reason his technical attributes need work is because he?s missed so much development and needs to catch up, he has proven in the past though that he is a quick learner.

He has an abundance of pace, strength, aerial ability and good movement. One thing I?ve always liked about him, he?s got intelligence off the ball and knows how to use his pace to effect. Many strikers struggle in this area (Radzinski, Johnson) ? all pace but definitely lacking when it comes to intelligence and movement.

He?ll certainly need time to get back to where he was but I definitely think he?s a good player who could do well here, he certainly has the right attitude.

I can see what Martin means about DM wanting to develop Vaughan discreetly, but I?ve never been entirely sure that he?s handled him as well as he could have.

One of JV?s biggest problems is that his enthusiasm and passion frequently cause him to lose his head. I can?t remember who we were playing, but he?d come on as a late sub and whenever a pass came his way, JV was trying to skin five men at a time, but kept running into trouble and losing the ball. Arteta, Cahill and Yakubu all bollocked him for this, without it making too much of a difference.

When DM has used him, it?s largely been in this sort of supersub capacity, so he?s effectively always put JV in positions where he?s busting his balls to make an impression, his judgment expensively clouded by his bull-in-a-china-shop enthusiasm. In the rare periods where he has been fit, wouldn?t it have made more sense to have given him game time on a slightly more consistent basis? There were certainly many times when AJ?s goalscoring form was such that Vaughan could hardly have been any worse.

I understand the instinct to be steady with young injury-prone hotheads like JV, but I?ve never felt convinced that DM has made the most of or encouraged the best out of Vaughan, and even in relatively injury-free periods, he?s always seems like a really frustrated player to me. But it?s been a long time since he?s been in contention, and I would hope that in his absence his football brain has matured a bit. Clearly this is a big ask, almost as big as him avoiding injury for a meaningful period.

Would love to see him score the winner in the Cup Final though, particularly from a VDM cross.
