The New Wembley?

Comments (16)

Just wondering what everyone thought of the New Wembley stadium? I went there for the England v USA match before I emigrated to Oz.

Personally I thought it was incredible with the walk up Wembley Way impressive. The view inside the group is good, you are obviously a little way from the pitch, but as the ground holds around 90k this is normal.

I also liked all the pics on the walls with the history of matches played at the previous stadium in the catering area.

Sure people's views would be different if we had lost on Sunday, but would be good to hear what people thought?

Let's tear off the roof on 30 May 2009. COYBs.

Have been there with England and now, joyfully Everton. Have only just got back home from a crazy emotional and brilliant weekend. Wembley is an awesome stadium, but no matter how good it is, one thing you cannot think to yourself as you look around it is yep £757m... bargain.

Brilliant stadium, been twice now, but the first time was to watch Blackpool v Yeovil in a league 1 playoff final so it wasnt full! Sunday was just amazing though, full to the brim and I was sat right next to the segregation so had all the Man U fans 5 or so seats away which was great for banter during the game, and even greater when Jags smashed the winning penalty in....COYB!!

Went there to watch England last year and it’s a brilliant stadium BUT, despite the fact that I only live about 6 miles away, it took me 3.5 hours to get home, 2 of which were queuing down the Wonderful Wembley Way to get on the tube. They should have built it somewhere in the middle of the country near some proper transport infrastructure, not in the urban wastelands of North-west London hemmed in by railways, industrial estates, and congested high-streets.

I live in Manchester and I was home in 3 hours (plus a bit) so I was a happy blue!
Top ground but half-full of bitter Mancs!

Thumbs up from me. I thought the atmosphere was fantastic, even sat with the Mancs.

I can assure you that when our penalties went in and when Tim Howard saved the 2 of theirs the noise from the other end was deafening! When Jags penalty went in it literally sounded like an explosion all around us and yet most of that noise was coming from the other end!

Got a beer in 30 seconds, got a great view down by the corner flag ( also meant that I had a great view of the penalties ) was out nice and easy, straight down Wembley Way onto a Tube and back at Victoria in an hour and home in another hour and ten.

I was amazed how easy it was. I remember being in a queue going into that horrible tunnel at the old undergrund station with everybody moo-ing because we were being treated like cattle, so this time at any rate, I thought it was great.

I was there a couple of years ago for the Dolphins vs Giants American Football game and I was very impressed with it I have to say... Queues for catering etc then (October 2007) were ridiculous and the staff were quite new, so I was willing to let that slide as all new stadiums have teething problems...

Views are quality and it was easy to move around. Only gripe is the wait for trains... It wasn’t the worst wait ever, but I suppose you have to put up with these things.

Atmosphere looked and sounded fantastic on Sunday. Well done to all the fans who travelled...

Now the job of finding a ticket for the final begins!!!

From the outside the Stadium looks fantastic; once in, it's even better. I was in the top tier and when I walked down the tunnel and into the light, I just stood there and said "Wow!" It took my breath away.

When it was first finished I went on the virtual tour and thought that looks great, but it doesn?t do it justice; the place is magnificent, with a fantastic atmosphere, well our end anyway. The tannoy people had it boxed off as well, playing Z-Cars before and after the game followed by Forever Everton, absolutely fantastic. 9.5 out of 10. Lose 0.5 for the red seats.

Afraid to say, not much chance of bunking in, though... so if you don?t get a ticket for the final stay home. As for getting away after the game, I didn?t expect anything less, but didn?t give a shite. I sat in my car with my family around me, grinning like a Cheshire cat. I was euphoric.

Nick, I respect your opinion but what was better about the old one? Maybe you miss the smell of stale piss as you walked in...???

I?ve been, quite rightly, accused of having rose tinted glasses ? the new Wembley is considerably more comfortable, far better view, not up to your ankles in piss in the toilets etc etc etc... but there?s something missing. In some ways it?s too nice, as ridiculous as that sounds.

Maybe because I?m considerably older than I was when I first started going to Wembley and a lot of my memories are tied up with childhood... but personally the magic has gone ? and only time can rebuild that.

In simple terms it?s got rid of all of the bad things about the old Wembley ? but managed to keep few of the good.

Does anyone know what the team names are that are printed all around the stadium above the middle tier? (Similar to the Emirates where they have the dates of all their trophy wins.) Are they FA Cup winners? One said Clapham Rovers so it can?t be all the current English league teams!

Paul, I was wondering about that as well, some names seemed to be of teams that I am sure have not won the cup before.

The names were all previous winners of the FA Cup and they years they won it. They are only put up for the Semi Final and Final and are not a permanent fixture.

I just think the place is too small (we had 100,000 there back in 1985) & in the wrong location ? somwhere near the NEC would probably have been better.

It looks great but I think we created the atmosphere despite rather than because of the stadium. Up until the middle of the second half it felt that the sheer size of the place and the height of the roof meant that the noise was being lost up into the air. There was always three songs being sung at the same time or we were singing a round like we did in junior school.

Midway through the second half, we seemed to learn how to do it and the first rendition of ?We shall not be moved? got us all singing together. I am still not convinced it is a great stadium for creating and atmosphere.

Whilst I agree with most of the sentiments already made about how impressive the stadium is.........and it is, I still found myself stepping through p*** at half time.
Surely when spending so much on the stadium they could have provided more and bigger toilet facilities.
No one seems to have mentioned the infrastructure around the stadium. It took over an hour just to get out of the coach park and nearly a further hour to travel along a single lane through an industrial estate before we reached the M1.........pathetic

Atmosphere looked absolutely amazing on Sunday. I was fortunate enough to get a ticket for the first England International against Brazil. Truly stunning stadium and if you’re lucky enough to get a ticket for the Final then try and get onto the balcony over looking Wembley Way, it’s free, which surprised us, and we got served twice as it was so well organised!
