End to end... Tradition???

Comments (14)

Having been away for the past few months I have only had the luxury of watching the games through highlights on the net. I have noticed that Everton have started shooting towards the Park End in the second half and wondered if anyone could give me an explanation??

Is this another part of our clubs tradition that is being removed by the powers that be? I noticed even Andy Gray mentioned it during one of the Sky games that I managed to catch. Any ideas?

Whoever wins the toss decides which way we kick-off ? I?m pretty sure the opposition have been winning the toss.

It?s Phil Neville?s superstition.... He switches now ?cos we won when we switched earlier in the season. Might change now with the City defeat!

It's as Tom says. I think since Phil Neville has been captain we?ve tended to score more in the Park End (not verified) but it just feels that way to me as well.

I suspect he will pick to face the Gwaldys St in the 1st half if he wins the toss.

Doesn?t matter what way we kick anymore. The players are heading towards their own fans at either end.

Is there a stat out there which tells us how many goals have been scored at either end in Goodison history?

I agree about the tradition bit, but as long as we score more goals at the end we are attacking rather than the end we are defending will do for me.

I put up an article about this a few weeks ago.

I sit in the Lower Gwladys and to be honest, Neville is pissing me off with his constant switches. One of the reasons I sit there is because we attack it second half. Can we change back please, Phil?

I think Carragher switched us in the FA Cup derby game, we won scoring at the Park End, and then Neville switched us himself the next game, we kept winning when we did it, so we kept doing it.

It is also to do with the sun. As all regulars on lower Gwladys know the sun is in your eyes for all of the first half and only a bit of the second. So some blinding can happen on crosses.....yobo hoofs.......neville shots etc

I have heard somewhere that it is to do with superstition. It seems these days we never attack the Gwladys Street in the 2nd half well ever! Whereas our beloved neighbours across the park attack the kop 2nd half every game year in year out. I mean you can literally count the times they haven’t on 1 hand. This couldn’t possibly be a fix could it? Considering that usually something good happens against them when away side attack kop 2nd half there must be something going on. Back to us well although it is tradition if we are getting results attacking the Park End 2nd half then I for 1 will not be complaining but I think the next time we attack Gwladys Street 2nd half my heart may give out due to the shock.

Paul O’Hanlon, I agree that it does not matter what End we attack as there are home fans behind both, so factors such as sun can come into it.

A more serious question should be why are Everton choosing to have away fans behind one of the goals in the new ground??

Do Everton actually not like attacking towards our home fans or what?

I thought the sam as you Mike Burgess about the sun but the sun was shining on Gwladys Street all game last Saturday and Neville still chose to kcik towards that end in the first half. It must be superstition. Maybe now we’ve lost we’ll go back to the traditional way.

Dont care if Phil Neville is captain or not or his stupid superstition for that matter, tradition is tradition and we have always been better shooting into Gwladys,re: Bayern Munich semi final Andy Gray figured the Gwladys just sucked the ball in that night so if its good enough for him its good enough for me.
