A moral dilemma ? what price the Final ?

Comments (31)

I have just had a conversation with a friend of mine who is a non-season ticket holder and who told me he would be prepared to pay up to £500 for a final ticket. This baffled me as I would not pay a penny over the odds for a ticket purely out of principle.

As a season ticket holder with comfortably enough match credits to qualify for the final this got me thinking just how much would I need to be offered to sell my ticket.

I?m not talking about hawking it to the highest bidder but if someone came up to me outside Wembley and offered me £500 would I sell ? Probably not. £750 still not going to happen. £1000+ I think I would have to seriously consider it.

I am nothing if not a pragmatist. I have seen at first hand Everton win the FA Cup, the league title and escape relegation. Strangely enough the Wimbledon game beats the trophy wins hands down for me as Everton were on a life support machine at that point until Anders Limpar did his Steven Gerrard impression in the box.

I digress ? what I am trying to say is that whatever happens on the 30th May I am in the fortunate position to have already seen it before. As such if someone offered me over a grand for my ticket would I take it ?

My heart tell?s me I would turn it down flat, my head tells me there is season ticket number 24 comfortably paid for.

As always with Everton though the heart always rules the head doesn't it?

A seriously thought provoking post. Nice one.

Unfortunately I probably won’t have the chance to get to wembley for the final because, even though I’m a STH, I’m in the Army and haven’t been able to get quite enough other games in.

Being there at wembley last week and witnessing a win, being at relegation last day scraps and prevailing, and watching previous final wins and losses at home during the 80’s / 90’s I could justify selling a ticket if I do get one.

I could actually back that up further by the fact I’m running the Edinburgh Marathon the morning after the FA cup final (about 7 hour drive away doesn’t leave much sleep time).

But if I do get a ticket it’d take a fair bit more that £1000 to prise it out of my grubby mitts.

Just my opinion, but being there just to support the toffeemen onto glory (hopefully) is worth more than just pound signs.

My dad had to pay 700 pounds for two Semi Final Tickets, I was pretty annoyed at him but money buyed me the happiest moment in my life in that instance even though it was ridiculous and painful to the family.

Gareth, I understand where you are coming from , but I personally would not be able to sleep at night , knowing that someone so desperate to see the game had been ripped off by me for my own gain.

I would rather give it away than follow the touts who see money as the only route to happiness.

At the same time no matter how much money I had , I would not pay over the odds for a ticket to any game as this is what encourages the vultures.

That is the reason that the FA is so wrong with it’s policy of allocating tickets to all and sundry.

As well as the opportunity for profiteering , how do they know where those tickets will end up , especially in these dangerous times.
Money comes and goes , but the happiness that winning the cup can bring is priceless.
Don’t add to the growing number of sharks that are already out there mate.

Selling your ticket is a very dangerous business. If you sell it to someone you don’t know or trust then you run the risk of them causing a riot in the stadium, beating someone up.......whatever. CCTV etc can pinpoint purpetrators to their exact seat, which can be traced back to you, which ultimately means that the club could potentially know that you sold your ticket on for a profit, which some clubs (maybe not Everton) regard as an offence that can be punishable by a banning order, or suspension of season ticket (this has happened to someone I know from Arsenal).

Anyway, the above scenario is unlikely, but I guess what I’m saying is that I will be going to the final and I won’t be selling my ticket, regardless of the offers I get.

Gareth, this is the dilemma I have. I qualify for a ticket, but cannot afford to renew my season ticket, due to being laid off from work, and the obvious difficulty in finding new work.

If someone offered me £600 for my ticket, I could renew my season ticket for next year, and have the semi final memories in my locker.

Am I wrong to think this, or do I go with the cynic in me that thinks if someone has that kind of money for a one off game, why didnt they buy a season ticket last year when we werent in a final??

Hey people,

heres a thought. If you don’t get a ticket. Just do what Liverpool fans have done. Steal them of their own fans, they’re only woolie backs anyway.

By the way that was a joke. bad one, but then again no joke is bad if it is at Liverpool FCs expense.

I am not a STH as I am from down south and still play on a saturday afternoon. I go to as many games as I can and was at the Semi. I am desperatly trying to get a ticket for the final from many contacts within the ’football family’ but fear I will be disapointed.

My real problem with the whole situation is not that I will not be there but that alot of fans that get to go week in week out, spend their hard earned on season tickets are going to miss out. Quite frankly that is a disgrace. For me (without the whole fact that the majority of tickets should go to the clubs because thats on another thread) each club should recieve the same number of tickets as it has STH MINIMUM. There should then be an allocation given to each club for players families & suits. I realise that some hard core fans cannot afford a season ticket and some do not get one as they have too many work commitments to make it worth while but unfortunatly in this situation people are going to miss out but there is no way that someone who has committed themselves to the club for the whole season should miss out. Like I said I don’t expect a ticket but there are people who have every right to expect one and they are going to miss out and that is plain wrong.

I’m a little cloudy with all this ticket allocation.

What chance do non-season ticket holders have. I am led to believe from various sources that I have between a dogs chance and no chance of getting my hands on a ticket.

I am reluctant to purchase one off a tout outside Wembley, the prices would be astronomical, and I would like to get a ticket the proper way from the box office or club, but it seems like I won’t get inside the venue now, although I understand that half of Liverpool will be around the ground in (designated) areas watching the game outside. I looks very much like I will be in that number. I know it will be great to be there in any capacity, but I would much rather have been inside the stadium.

40,000 is one hell of a large Family! Just who the hell are these people?

Each Club should get 40,000 with the remaining 10,000 going to others, and quite honestly that’s probably about 9,500 too many!

It anybody buying a Ticket on the black market over face value took it to the authorities, it should be possible to trace the vendor. Why does nobody do that ?.... after the game of course!!!!

Elstone is dead right of course.

But he and we should be grateful that the FA no longer allocate tickets in line with your average Home crowds or we’d get less than Chelsea, whilst the semi would have seen the Mancs outnumber us hugely.

Have tickets even started being sold yet? I’m not sure or more honestly I cannot think straight at this moment in time, and what about non-season ticket holders.

It’s a bit of a damn mess, why can’t you just contact the Wembley box office and just get a ticket if available.

Allocation, season ticket holders priority, Elstone, Time running out, Sod it, I’m resigned to spending the day outside or not even in North London next month.

I wish all those inside of wembley and fortunate enough to witness the game live a great day out, whatever the outcome.

If only it was 1923, no tickets ,just turn up, just a thought!

Who are these Idiots on here, or is it the same individual responsible?

Alan Clarke, Ian Porterfield, Alan Taylor, Bobby Stokes?

Just for the record, I can honestly say I never have scored for a team (Ipswich) in an FA cup final, or do not spend my time mucking out pigs and sheep farming. That was the name I was born with, and it I didn’t mean that much to me when the aforementioned Ipswich did indeed win the FA cup in 1978, through, me, I suppose.

I did have a teacher at school called David Hirst many years ago, so allowances can be made.
