First signing of the summer

Comments (32)

Anton Peterlin a 22-year-old American defensive midfielder is set to put pen to paper on July 1st (when the window re-opens) having impressed on a 10-day trial with the Toffees.

David Moyes is quoted as saying, "Anton really impressed myself and the coaching staff with his attitude and undoubted ability. We are therefore delighted to give him the chance to establish a professional career here at Everton.?

Interesting.... very interesting... it must mean the end of Castillo at Everton.

I picked this piece of information up "Everton will make 22-year old American midfielder Anton Peterlin there first summer signing after the Ventura County Fusion starlet impressed on a 10-day trial with the Blues.

In a recent statement, David Moyes revealed his delight at the signing: ?Anton really impressed myself and the coaching staff with his attitude and undoubted ability. We are therefore delighted to give him the chance to establish a professional career here at Everton.?

I hope this is the first of several signings that are done early doors. The year we signed AJ, Howard and Lescott they were all in by early July and we looked better for it on the pitch from the outset, including tonking the RS 3-0.

Anton Peterlin.Personal ? Born April 4, 1987 ... ?I?m Danish and proud of it!? ... lists favorite professional club as Barcelona and players as Roy Keane, Marcos Senna and Patrick Vieira ... favorite soccer moment was scoring a game-winning goal against Cal State Northridge
.Hope is as good as his favourites!

This certainly fits the profile of how we know Moyes wants to make progress. End of Castillo? Not necessarily, as DM has made positive noises about him and Jacobsen recently.

Segundo must be closer to being PL ready than the American lad, and there could be plenty of games to go round next season. It could come down to how much we would have to pay for Castillo.

I really like Castillo. Maybe its because he’s an undergod in the Everton ranks, but I think he’s got potential to really come on and prove himself.

Anton Peterlin (September 25, 1908 Anton Peterlin was an internationally-acclaimed scientist, the author of more than 350 scholarly publications. For his research he received the highest Slovenia’s scientific award: the France Pre?eren award in 1955, the Bingham Medal for rheology in 1970 and the American Physical Society’s Polymer Physics Prize for 1972. A specialist in polymers, among other areas, Peterlin was a member of numerous scientific societies, including the American Physical Society, the Deutsche Kolloid Gesellschaft, the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft, and the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU). What a signing! Unfortunatly just found out he’s dead!

Where’s this info come from? Nothing on OS so I’m unconvinced!

Regarding Castillo... DM says on the OS that the fee would be around 4.5mill, which to me seems a lot.

He says that there is a chance but that the Jacobsen situation is ’easier’ because he’s already our player.

Unless Casti play brilliantly in last few games, I’d doubt we’ll sign him personally...

We can't sign Castillo because he isn't free ? Jacobsen, this kid and to a much lesser extent Owen (If true ? which I doubt) are free, and therfore are eligible to become Everton players.

Mike - if Moyes wants to keep Castillo (and I don’t know if he will) he will find some way - another loan perhaps - of keeping him. He is very unlikely to have mentioned him after the Chelsea game if he didn’t have a plan.

I don’t think Moyes really wants Castillo, and would only keep Jacobsen as a back-up. All he is doing is making the right noises so that both players remain committed until the end of the season. I’d be shocked if he signed Castillo as I am sure he is another one of George Weah’s cousins. Either that or he has won some sort of raffle/reality tv show.

By my count, Peterlin would become the fourth player for Everton who previously played college soccer in the U.S. Can you name the other three?

Oh to be an "undergod", bit like an antichrist I suppose... who knows.

What?s the odds on Van der Meyde, having already been moved on to some german or belgian team, comes on at extra-time at Wembley, scores the winner and instantly becomes an Everton legend.

An Undergod perhaps?!

WOW! This Anton fella picked up a Bingham medal. He must be OK.
The day is dawning when AVdM clears or is cleared out.
Hopefully this sad imitation of a professional footballer has taught David Moyes a lesson about checking rumours about a player before signing him.

Eleven foreign players were in the initial lineup for their teams on the inaugural day of the Premier League in 1992. Three of them played, or would eventually play, for Everton.

Who are they?

(Eleven! That covers Arsenal these days.)

Does anyone agree that when you see Casti play (or Hibbo, Pip, Ossie, Vaughan, Howard if you were big, er, and that ledge Gosling) that we could have made it pro?! Seriously, I’d fancy playing vs some of those boys and would be gutted if I lost to them in a 5s game.....is that just me?! (Im not a RS...I hate them) Anyway...COYB!!!

I know what you mean, you want to see top pro footballers do things that you cant.
I used to think that myself about players like Alan Harper.
Its not quite that simple though mate, you need the full package.
I think we’ve all played with people who have enough ability/skill to play the game at the top level but for one reason or another didnt, these guys usually dont fully understand whats required until they are too old.
You’ll probably have 1or 2 skillful mates and I know you find it hard to believe, but the guys you mentioned would comfortably beat you and you current team mates in a game of 5s.
They’d have enough skill . . . . and far too much of everything else

Of the 11 foreign players that started the first game of the 1992 season, only 2 went on to play for Everton. They were Limpar and Kanchelskis.

The other foreign players that day were Peter Schmeichel, Jan Stejskal, Roland Nilsson, Michael Vonk, John Jensen, Hans Segers, Tony Dorigo (he was Australian even though he had England caps), Gunnar Halle and Eric Cantona.

I don’t recall singing Ooh Aah Cantona in the Gwladys Street end..

Oops...Bob The Pole came on as a substitute that day for Everton. I guess the question would have to be rephrased to which 12 foreign footballers PLAYED on that day...played for/would play for Everton etc.

Good pick up.

McBride and Weir played against each other several times in college (1990 & 1991). 1990 - Evansville & Weir defeated St Louis & McBride twice both games were 1-0. In 1991 St Louis & McBride defeated Evansville 2-0
