Tie Pienaar long term

Comments (21)

Just read some articles about clubs interested in Pienaar, and I?m very impressed with his commitment to the club. I watched the South Africa vs Poland game and have to admit, Pienaar can really work magic with his passing. He played a central attacking role (his old Ajax role) and still looks brilliant as ever feeding the front line (this is an area David Moyes really need to start exploring).

South Africa vs Spain on 20 June is going to be the big test for Pienaar on showing what he can do in the central attacking role.

DM needs to offer him an improved contract and tie him up long term before the Confed Cup starts this week. (It's on record him stating that he?ll like to stay long term.)

I agree with you Ricardo, Pienaar has been brilliant in Arteta?s absence and it would be a crime not to tie him down long term.

It's a stone-waller that he will go I reckon. Moyes probably reckons if he sells Pienaar he has a replacement in Osman, albeit a worthless replacement. We have no money and with so many guys signing long term contracts we will have a high wage bill soon. Lescott and Pienaar will go, maybe Arteta... we will sign Hunt from Reading and Osman will be captain for the next 35 years, and we will re-sign the Unwanted Ghost Claus Thomsen on a 6-year deal. I am in my negative mood today if anyone hasn't noticed. And you're right ? who cares?

Absolutely brilliant for the last 3 months of the season....before that...not so good.

I was always of the opinion that he would be best in the position he played in Ajax....but the thing is we now have Cahill, Fella, Osman, and Pienaar who all look like that could be their best position...

Totally agree with everyone else about Pienaar (and not just cos I’m from Cape Town) - pure class. On another note, saw this right-winger Obinna that we were (and are) interested in play for Nigeria a few days back. He scored the third goal and it was a cracker. I reckon we should try and get him to patrol the right hand side . . . depending on whether he is indeed a "Moyes-type player" or not, naturally ;)

This is a no-brainer. Hopefully no dithering here.

He’s one of our best players and he also wants to stay at Everton so this issue needs to be closed asap.

Jim Slade,

It's by no means a stone waller that he?ll go. I?d say its a stone waller that he won?t go. I totally believe David Moyes when he says he won?t be letting his best players go (had it come from the chairman or the CEO then i wouldn?t be so sure). If nothing else Moyes is a man of integrity and I totally believe him. Pienaar will sign a 4 year deal...i?m certain of it.

And with regards to money, i firmly believe there will be a decent transfer fund this summer to bring in the 2 or 3 quality signings plus squad fillers we need.

Gary - I absolutely agree that Moyes is a man of integrity and the only thing that I know for certain is that nothing is for certain, especially when it comes to transfers. I really do hope and pray that this summer will be a joy, that we will keep all our players and sign the 3-4 that we so desperately need BUT I am preparing myself for the worst instead of being optimistic and then disappointed like I have been so often before. Cahill did say after the FA Cup Final that he prays everyone stays! I did find that a bit weird.

I don't think it will be too long before Mark Cassin and the rest of the doolally transfer rumour squad start doing the rounds. I do hope those lot across the way dont sign Lavezzi though, I am a Napoli fan and been over to see them and he is a serious talent, may not be Messi but he is gonna be great.

A decent transfer fund?

Where from exactly?

...I assume the reason we haven’t had an AGM for last year - is because the books are so scary. Can we really afford not to sell? We have gaps in out midfield...that have needed plugged for years...20mill for Lescott ( i know the threads about Pienaar) might just do that...

And if Stephen Hunt comes to this club...we will be dooooooooomed...doomed i tell thee. He’s a witch.

"I am a proud Everton player at present and would welcome it if the club moved to secure my long-term future, but that kind of thing is out of my hands.? - Steven Pienaar.

Ciarán is right to point out that Pienaar has stepped up in the last few months to become the eye-catching player he is, partly because he has had more responsibility. Added to that there’s the Baines factor. Steven has blossomed as Leighton has begun to show his true potential.

There are two years left on his contract which, barring accidents, will probably be be extended by Christmas. He’s irreplaceable at the price we paid for him and, as he confirmed recently, Moyes takes particular pride and pleasure in working with players who aren’t bought in as finished products. I’m sure he’ll be with us for a few years yet.

By all means offer him improved terms but FFS he’s had one good season with us and him and his agent are already issiung ’veiled threats’ about improved terms, always wanting to play in La Liga, Champions league etc.

I’m sorry but their a mercenary bunch of bastards, including their agents.

How is it we never hear from them when they have been injured or had a poor season?

My mate came out with a classic the other day when he says the only reason they kiss their badges is to find out who their playing for that week?

Food for thought?

"One good season" ?

He was excellent last season as well. There are no "veiled threats" either. Just honest answers to questions from the media.

Take it easy. There’s nothing to see here.

"never looses the ball"

You’re joking right?

He is one of the worst culprits for it; however I can overlook that due to the times he doesn’t lose it and gets at the oppositions defence.

He was poor at the start of the season but improved with fitness and confidence. Good job South Africa never made the ACoN

It looks like Pienaar has been offered a new four year deal, worth around 40k a-week, that he will sign when he returns from international duty. Its the right play, he was immense after Arteta got injured, and he deserves to be in line with the rest of the top earners, as well as having his future secured like Jags, Yobo and Howard.

I absolutely love Peanuts, I sincerely hope we do give him a four year deal and put him among the top earners. I’m looking forward to seeing him and Arteta in the same team again.

I’m really interested to learn that his best position and the one he played at Ajax is a central attacking role. I would love to see him used in that role for Everton although that would cause problems in itself, i.e. - Cahill and Fellaini will probably be fighting it out to play that position next season. Also, instead of needing one top class wide midfielder we would need two and they don’t come cheap.

In a perfect world we could splash some serious cash and sign that Tukish lad Arda Turan from Galatasary and get the excellent Jesus Navas to overcome his chronic homesickness and join us from Sevilla. In my dreams. (Sorry can’t resist all that FM stuff trhis time of year!)

Don’t get me wrong I hope we do tie up Pienaar on a longer term deal. But all this nonsense about clubs from leagues chasing him is just media spin fed by his agent to help increase his wages.

Aren’t people struck by the co-incedence that other clubs are interested just when he happens to be in contract negotiations!!!

Of course we all want our best players to stay and of course that includes Pienaar, Lescott, etc, etc.

We need players to replace whoever leaves, even though the contributions last season of AvdM, Valente, Castillo and Jacobsen were minimal. I wouldn?t bother spending on Castillo, as we have Rodwell. I?d like to see Jacobsen stay as cover.

Then we all want to see the starting XI improved with a couple of players at least, which is gonna cost unless DM has another couple of gems up his sleeve. But I feel the challenge now is much more difficult.

We?re generally looking at improving, except at right mid, upon very good players in every position. Moyes is going to have a tough time improving the starting XI without splashing serious money.

Unless, someone has pulled £20M out their arse, the biggest decision Moyes faces this summer is whether to turnover a few of our saleable assets and bring in cheaper players, or whether he sticks with bringing in a few extra on loans, frees and cheap deals, and hopes for less injuries & improved individuals next year.

Cheaper players will generally be one of 2 types, a gamble or a youngster who has the potential to be better than the player sold (which I guess is also a gamble).

It?s a tough one, if we don?t have much cash, and it?s not a decision that I?d like to have to make. It?s all about the balance of the side. Moyes may feel, for example, that with one £5M midfielder to offer a half decent replacement on the right, that the improving players in the squad and a season with less injury problems will suffice for a push for the top-4. Or maybe he?ll feel that an overhaul is necessary and that perhaps a step backwards next season, to take 2 or 3 forward the season after is going to have to happen.....

I hope that I?m wrong and we can keep everyone and bring in 2 good players and a couple of squad players, but I somehow doubt it.

Don’t want to be too Fraudian, but isn’t this just a case of Pienaar’s envy?
