The DK Decision-Maker

Comments (12)

John Denham MP Will make the decision over the future of Destination Kirkby and Everton's proposed ground move.

As part of the Cabinet reshuffle on 5 June 2009, John Denham was appointed to the role of Minister for Communities and Local Government replacing Hazel Blears who had resigned from the post on 3 June 2009.

Apparently he is a keen Southamton FC fan, so at least he will understand football and the needs of a football club, unlike that 'air head' Blears.

Will this appointment make a difference??

Probably not. We’ll have a different Prime Minister by the time they make a decision.

If ever they make one. lol.

Interesting coincidence that the design of the Tescodome is the pretty much the St Mary?s with blue corners...

No difference ? they will listen to what the Inspector has to say. Personal preference / bias can?t come into it ? so he will make the same decision as Blears would have.

The sooner a decision is made, the better. Surely any potential investor will want to know if they are going to have to stump up £78m for the Tescodome or have to pump money into finding a new home / upgrading Goodison before they make any commitment.

The only difference will be further delay but it will also give the Council leader more time to sell his shared stadium plan.... which, he has no intention of funding. I wish we could spend this so called ring-fenced £75 million developing more Corporate facilities at Goodison. Where on earth we are going to get that kind of money to fund DK is anyone?s guess.

Interesting that fate has immediately thrown up a comparison between the Kirkby Cowshed and Southampton.

Remember the old decrepid Dell that saw Premier League football week-in, week-out, for years and years before some bright spark decided that there is no room for traditional stadia for a top flight team?

"I know, let's create St Marys... "

And yes, you guessed it, look what happened...

?Personal preference/bias can?t come into it? ? Not much experience of public law then?... I?ll bet you one judicial review against your unfettered discretion.

Preference and bias always play a part in these decisions... These public servants can say they?re objective until they?re blue in the face... subjectivism always shines through.

As a number of posts replied to this general question on another thread, I have since had it confirmed to me from a friend who has a great deal of experience with build projects being called-in, and he confirmed that the Minister will not be making the decision, just simply signing off on what the civil servants have decided.

Southampton fan or not, he will have next to zero input in the decision process, apparently.

The decision will be made by some beaureaucrat who has little or no common sense. The MP will just ratify it. Don’t you just love democracy

Davey, Southampton went down because of really poor management from the top. Kenwright, for his faults, aint nearly as bad. Also, the end of the dell was also the end of the player who single handedly kept them up season after season, Matt Le Tissier! They would have still gone down at the Dell. As for our stadium issue, lets just get a decision made for christ sake, then hopefully the fans and Everton can move forward!

Lyndon

If you have the time read the archives from about 18 months ago when you stated that when you first saw the graphics of the Kirkby stadium you liked it! I reminded you of that at the time. Now it’s the Tescodrome, pronounced ever so disdainfully.

Let’s have a bit of honesty eh!!?
