Good, Bad, Ugly... and the Future

Looking back on the last season, it's important to reflect on how we as a club performed:
The Good:? top 5 finish; FA Cup runners up; good youths coming through; Liverpool's financial worries...
The Bad:? loosing the final, loosing Jag, Yak, Mikel.
The Ugly:? agents trying to pimp our better players; clubs asking stupid money for shite players;
Kenwright's constant lies and back-tracking... (I have not been to work for the last 10 months as I have been watching the space!!!)
The Future:? well that's the million-dollar question and until the season 2009-10 starts and 31 August draws closer, we will not know... We can guess, get excited and then ultimately get depressed ? whilst "watching this space" for the next 10 months.

So Chris, what exactly is your "reflection"? It seems dominated by the "watch this space" hang-up.
At the time, was that not a reference to the impending signing of one Maroune Fellaini? This seems to be just another pointless Kenwright-bashing post.
Did we not just do this already??? I'm only publishing this because things are pretty quite at the minute, and hope that posts will add something meaningful to the main subject... whatever that is!
It can be frustrating to read about our rivals' transfer activities knowing that we lack the ability to compete financially. It is equally frustrating to hear our name soiled by the mid-table mediocrity that is Hunt, Doyle, etc. At £18 million is Lescott likely to jump ship for a lighter shade of blue?
So far there hasn?t been one good thing written about Everton in the transfer market and tensions are building. However, Moyes and Kenwright haven?t said anything yet and their opinions are the only ones that matter.
Ignore the speculation and stop fuelling your anxiety. If Moyes is not in the papers it?s because he?s busy doing his homework.

I
very much doubt the "watch this space" soundbyte was in reference to Fellaini, predating his (last-minute?) acquisition as it did by about three weeks.
Given Kenwright?s penchant for keeping us all dangling with his consistently fruitless hints, I think Chris is perfectly within his rights to raise that quote in the context of the summer to come. "Plus ca change..." where Bill is concerned, I?m afraid, frequently hoisted by his own petard.
Lyndon, yes and no to your comment.... I think. Probably the "watch this space" comment wasn?t about Fellaini but then again (the no part) I am sure it takes some time to thrash out the deal with small price upfront and add ons, that certainly wouldn?t be a last-minute deal.
I am definitely with Jason on the seemingly average players we are associated with (all paper talk so not worth the paper it is printed on I know)
In regards to Lescott et al, I would hope that the fact we have finished the Best of the Rest (that dreaded phrase) and reached the FA Cup Final and are once again in Europe would be enough incentive to stay; however, we all know that money talks... so, unfortunately, "watch this space" takes on a whole new meaning.
Good story today about Delph from Leeds. Would be a good signing and should push straight for a first-team spot (if the story is true that is). Would much rather see us bulk the squad up with some real potential than chase ageing out-of-contract players. Any word on that American player we were supposed to have signed?
Without checking, were we not also trying desperately to sign both M’Bia and Obinna at that time too? The fact that we didn’t sign anybody until the last day... and when the universal reaction seemed to be "... WHO?!?" I suppose helped cement "watch this space" as yet another luvvie soundbyte with which to beat him about the pate.
I dont buy into the whole Fellaini signing being a blind one. He may not have been Moyes’ first choice last summer, but after how he played against Liverpool in the champs league, Moyes might have thought it was now or never for getting him here. Also, noone could argue that Fellaini hasnt contributed this season on the field, and also brought alot of focus to the club on his own (be it good or bad) with regards to the media interest which many of our fans moan that we never get!
Dan McKie, spot on mate.
There’s no such thing as bad publicity. His hair-do, his elbowing, his excessive amount of yellow cards and his 9 goals have drawn attention to us and brought us more into the public eye.
I seem to remember on the David Moyse radio interview that Fellaini had been watched on a number of occasions (even before the Liege-Liverpool game).
I don?t think he was the first choice but he had certainly been considered.
We all want to know what the starting line-up will be for August, and the squad for what should be a very tough season. So I just took a look at the current senior squad on the OS, and nothing looked different - except that Andy van der Shandy has been erased.
No surprise there, of course, but it does mean that Lars, Segundo, Nuno and Jo are still on there. This means nothing, of course - except that decisions haven’t been made yet perhaps?
Is Jo still here? Can he be got on loan for another season? If we have the cash for one big signing does anyone think it should be Jo? Any one fancy Jo and Richards for Lescott? How about Wright Phillips and Richards for Lescott with Jo on loan for another year with city paying his wages?
I am sure we’ll do some business with City this summer,I just hope that Richard Dunne is not part of it.
Andy, any deal that has Lescott outbound gets a big NO from me. He’s irreplaceable under any circumstances, but with Jags out, his departure would be an absolute disaster.
And Kieth, you mentioned Castillo... I’d really like to see us keep him. He was brilliant the other night against Argentina as Ecuador beat them 2-0. I know he didn’t get much playing time for us, but he’s quality.
