Joleon Lesser-cott

Comments (22)

There is a sixty-something Evertonian who sits two seats away from me in the Park End, who moved to Wolverhampton several years back. Word in the Black country is that our normally brilliant defender had some corrective operation in the summer, and simply hasn't felt the same since. His performances would seem to bear that out, and his confidence is clearly on the wane.

Can anyone corroborate?

You could be right, wasn't there talk of something being needed at the end of the season? Here it is... Lescott needs injections. I don't remember seeing anything after that...

I?m going to stick my neck out and say that Lescott?s form since the beginning of the season, or lack there of, is more likely down to "I?m an England International-Big Time Charlie" syndrome than some phantom knee operation that a bloke from Wolverhampton heard about.

I dont believe that if this had actually happened that the club would have mssed this opportunity for a press release.

I commented on here a while a go about his knee surgery but I dont think a small op would change things too much. Cruciate yes but not a knee op.

I think it's a confidence situation and maybe poor pre-season prep, maybe we thought we were gonna carry on where we left off. On the other hand we may have been upset by the lack of summer activity and the players knowing how weak we were.

The OE site reported twice on this subject.

Ciaran McGlone: Do you leave the lights on at night? You seem to see bogeymen everywhere.

Ray Ward: Stick your neck back in. You?re wrong. Even without Andrew?s help, many who follow these things were aware of Lescott?s knee difficulty. Doesn?t mean it is the reason for bad form, but does mean he had corrective attention, if not quite an operation, in the summer.

I don?t think Lescott has "big time Charlie syndrome"; I think he has Paul Warhusrst syndrome. Take a guy from relative obscurity seem him excel the mess around trying him in different spots even striker and then leave him with his head in a spin and all the expectation in the world piled on him.

Don?t know how true it is but apparently Moyes said he was bringing in new faces in the summer and Joleon asked could he have one. Sorry, couldn?t resist...

I personally think as I have said before on this site that the issue is his desire / want / insistence he plays at centre-back.

Moyes wants him at left-back, which is his best position in my opinion, and at the moment he is trying too hard to prove he should play in the centre, which has affected Yobo's performance and ultimately the team's.

I think Moyes has to get tough and tell him it's left-back or left on the bench.

Michael,

I?m absolutely astounded that you allow disgusting posts like Kevin Jones? and the Jo king (joking) ones. Clearly they have no place in an Everton Forum.

I understand that from time to time industrial language is used by some to demonstrate their passion, but this goes way beyond acceptability, way beyond.

Do the right thing Michael.

I think he?s looked alot better in the last two games. He looks alot more comfortable alongside Jagielka.

Connor, you use this word "alot" a lot but unfortunately, a lot of the time, it is simply not right. I alot your confusion to a simple desire for concatenation, which we do a lot but not with "a lot", this being two separate words.

(ps: It's the same for "aswell" as well...)

It has nothing to do with something I don’t like. If it was then everyone would be at each others throats all the time - which they are not. I never said that the posters were not Evertonians.

However this was far more about what is right and proper and the way Evertonians should behave. Read the posts again - if you believe that is acceptable, then it must be that you are a different type of Evertonian than me. I know which type I would want to be known as.

Michael, is that really what you want on this site?

Sorry, I?m obviously missing something that has got a couple of you all het up. Kevin Jones was making a joke. It was intended to be humorous. If you are offended by that, then sorry, but that?s something I suggest you need to deal with at your end. I see nothing wrong with it. [I sincerely hope you?re not playing the racist card, because that will make me very annoyed indeed... say it ain?t so, please!]

Michael, no I am certainly not playing any sort of card except perhaps the decency one.

I recall that an official complaint was made by EFC to LFC on behalf of Lescott as a direct result of the sick chanting of the RS at the Anfield derby last season.

As I see no difference between that and the ’joke’ post (above except that it was posted by an Evertonian who should know better), I thought raising an objection was only the decent thing to do. Hopefully you can see where I was / am coming from, hence my not unreasonable request to have the offending post removed.

The second post, which you have now removed (thank you) was clearly unacceptable language.

Thanks for that Steve. Sorry if I’m still being dense but can you please put it into words ? what exactly is wrong with what Kevin Jones wrote? It was simply a fairly innocent play on the words "new faces"... Either you thought it was funny ? like I did ? or (I’m guessing) you didn’t... in which case, let it pass.

I don’t understand such an aggressive reaction from you and Matty Dawkins (to the point where he needs to question someone’s credentials as an Evertonian ? something which I find absolutely unacceptable on a fans’ website).

The chanting at that derby was more to do with the slagging off the fact that some players' children had learning difficulties and associated disabilities.

Lescott may not be the best looking man in Merseyside but I?m sure, after a childhood of ribbing, he is well able to deal with a few knobheads from Norway, Wales and the West Country.

I really don’t want this to become a conversation that takes over the original point - sorry Kevin Hudson - but I don’t think I have been aggressive. In fact I have tried to be deliberately restrained using proper decent language at all times (hopefully?).

I understood that it was meant to be a joke, but one in very poor taste and I believe it to refer directly to Lescott’s facial scar. This is what the RS’s sick taunts referred to and whilst they may say they were only having a laugh, it clearly caused offense. Having made a point of singling it out at the time, I just think it is unacceptable for one of our own to do the same. Nothing more, nothing less.

There you go, and not a single swear word in sight.

Maybe it?s me not understanding how we can claim to be so innocent and moan about any other clubs taunts or chants when you hear the ones aimed at Gerrard and, week-in, week-out, some idiot in the middle of the Gwaldys Street end wanting legs to be broken.

So lets not loose our sense of reality and if you find it offensive don?t visit the site.

Keep up the good work.

Michael, Kevin Jones, say it to Lescott's face and see if he will see it as a JOKE? I don't think so. Blue or not, poor taste.
