Who's next?

As I write this I assume that David Moyes has not signed a new contract. My own opinion is that he feels he can go no further with Everton and is waiting for something else. Maybe it's Spurs and if so I wish him luck, he'll need it.

I think it's good news for Everton. Things at Goodison have gone stale and hoofball is the game we play. Who could do better? Well here's a list:

Hoddle
Maldini
Bilic
Keegan
David Jones
Alan Stubbs

They are in no particular order but I believe that any one of them would motivate the squad more than our curent de-motivated, negative, defeatist, safety first coach is doing.

We might see better football under Keegan but I'm not sure we'd be any more successful. And what evidence exists that Alan Stubbs could do a better job than Moyes?

Roy Keane might be good but I think he is even more ambitious than Moyes and wouldn?t put up with our limited funds.

I?m not sure how happy I am about it but, from all the talk and press coverage, Moyes looks set to sign. If he walks away after what he has said in the media, it's a big backflip.

Looking at that list, all I can say is I hope Moyes signs!!! And that's coming from not a huge Moyes fan!

Keegan would be a disaster!!! As would Hoddle or Jones. Journeymen who have not achieved more than Moyes wherever they have been. Stubbs and Billic are unproven and therefore a huge risk!

The managers who would seriously be a step up in my opinion would be O?Neill, the Liege manager etc. Sadly, these would not be interested, so stick with Moyes.

Bilic is the only one I’d even consider from that list.

I’m with James. If that’s the best list we can come up, let’s start praying Moyes signs.

"Always hold on tight to nurse, for fear of finding something worse."

A bleak but perhaps accurate summary of the paralysis of fear that surrounds the club.

Surely Kenwright?s first call would be to our former assistant manager? Whatever: the School of Realism, or Indigestion Football, has long kicked out any science, so to be honest, does the face that fronts it matter very much?

Stick with Moyes. We have a good manager but I would love to see a new owner with a bit of cash. Even though he has not been brilliant with some of his spending, he will learn, we all learn. Look at Ferguson. Until United won that FA Cup years ago he was gone. The club then trusted him and things have soared as we have all seen. Not saying we will soar to the same degree but he will take us on. We will have a great patch in this season. The new boys will come good. We have been beaten in Europe by a team that could go on and win the thing.

I wish people would stop with all this bollox about comparing Moyes?s first few years at Everton to Ferguson?s at United (eg Eamonn McEnvoy above).

For a start, Ferguson had already proven himself as a winner at Aberdeen. Not just in Scottish football, but also with European honours. He also won the FA Cup with United after just 3 years at Utd. Moyes has never won anything as a manager. Please stop taking the piss and don?t compare the two. And this is coming from someone who FUCKING HATES Ferguson!!!!!

Another thing people seem to forget when comparing Moyes and Alex Ferguson is that it is a completely different era now. When Ferguson took over United, money wasn't so prevalent in football, and add to the fact that Ferguson came into things at a time when the dominant forces of England where on the wane, giving United the chance to rule the roost in the early part of the 90s onwards.

Its a different game now and Moyes has been here for nearly 7 years, it's no longer Walter Smith;s team anymore, its all David Moyes's team and compared to Everton managers of the past ten or fifteen years it also pretty expensively assembled..

I think the fact that it has taken Moyes so long to sign the contract merely shows that he must have had a summer with doubts... maybe he still is, perhaps he feels how can he sign such a lengthly contract now? Of all the times to do it, why now? Why not before the season started? What if he signs the contract and Everton are involved in a real relegation battle?

Let's be honest, as well as Moyes did getting us into Europe, a relegation battle wouldn't be anything new under him. We have had two new seasons where we have really really struggled in 2003-04 and 2005-06. I think Kenwright is crazy to offer such a lengthly contract anyway.

Five years... But what are our plans? Do we plan on finding more investment for the manager? Because, let's be honest, that's what we are going to need ? otherwise it's always going to be a case of one step forward and three steps back.

By the way, just to talk of possible Moyes replacements, I do agree that I would like to see Bilic here, or Maldini.

This seems a strange post. Bilic maybe, but the others are nowhere near as good as what we?ve got. Mood amongst the supporters is, admittedly, low at the moment but Glenn Hoddle? Really?

Also, Maldini has been a great player but what suggests he would be a good manager? His dad didn?t seem to up to much.

Also, Roy Keane might be a good motivator but what else suggests he would be successful at the Toffees? His player recruitment is certainly worse. Let?s be honest, if we?d have signed Diouf, Healy and Cisse in the summer the vast majority of the fanbase would have been very unhappy.

If you're drawing up a list of potential managers to replace Moyes and Keegan is in there, then you're a dickhead. The only people I know with any respect for Keegan as a manager are the delusioned gobshites who support Newcastle.

Yet another moronic post from the Dodd person!

I personally do not want Moyes to sign. This fiasco has gone on long enough. How many more times are we going to get the "In the next few days" twaddle ?

Nah we certainly don?t want Hoddle. What?s he done? Apart from getting Swindon Town into the Premier League? They did go straight down again granted but......

If Moyes does not sign I won?t be in the least bit sorry. He is tactically inept. Lots of other managers have sussed out Moyes and prepare their teams accordingly.

I might also point out that in the last seven years we have won nothing and do not look like doing so in the near future.

I was wondering when our season would start ? now I see clearly. Davie will sign his contract, therefore inspiring the team to victory at the Emirates and then a top 4 finish to compensate for the early Uefa Cup exit. Also we will win the FA Cup (who needs to be distracted by a League Cup run ?) and we will have a new super stadium approved and then we will be lead into the promised land by Bill Kenwright and David Moyes......

If Kenwright really has over £3m to offer a manager, why not tap up Gus Hiddink or Dick Advocaat, even Peregrinni. Moyes is finished for me, he just does?nt seem that interested, he should have the decency to walk away from us now, and that will give us time to get someone in.

Howard Kendall, third comeback lucky?

In all honesty from that list they?re either gobshites (Keegan), very suspect (Hoddle), completely unproven (Stubbs), don?t know who Everton is (Maldini), likely to be a flop and a drain on resources (Bilic). Need I go on? We have the best man in charge of our club in it?s current circumstances. And one that deserves a chance if we did get taken over and had megabucks.

Fergie is rarely wrong (perhaps Veron aside) but when he is he usually balances the books in some way. He?s also a good judge and he rates our Moyesie very highly. As do most knowledgeable managers. Apart from Krøldrup, any gambles that haven?t worked out haven?t cost us much money, certainly far overshadowed by the gambles that have worked out.

Fellaini still has the jury out but it?s very early days and not fair to judge a 20-year-old who needs time to settle and adjust. Blimey, he?s got a better goal rate than Brett Angel so far anyway!! Anti-Moyes brigade ? be VERY careful what you wish for.

Last season, Davey Moyes was the 5th best Manager in the Premier League, therefore I don?t believe after 10 games this season it's time to panic just yet. However, if DM does leave, I think, along with Colin Potter, we should approach Dick Advocaat. Zenit play some good attractive football on the floor, and in my humble opinion he is the only one worth looking at. The people on the original list from Andy don?t really inspire me to think they?d be any better the DM. Also for £3M a year we could probably get him

The only one on that list that I?d consider is Slaven Bilic, the rest should be avoided at all costs! Bilic and Stubbs - there is no way I?d want either of them managing our clube. They are both cunts.

Mancini - how is he going to do better? He?ll still have no money to spend? He spent millions at Inter Milan. Same applies to Keegan who I might add is an ex-gobshite if you hadn?t noticed

Hoddle - would you really want him in charge? I definitely wouldn?t

David Jones - is he better than Moyes? If so, why hasn?t he landed a bigger job. He?s been around longer.
He?s also had a fair amount of money to spend at Cardiff

I?m sorry but you haven?t shown one decent suggestion there.

totally agree.

Most supporters thought the sun shone on Moyes up to the end of last season and because he and the squad got totally screwed by the antics of the board resulting in a net £2 million spend on players as opposed to the £25 miilion budget we were all expecting we are all now questioning his management credentials.

Most other managers would have walked but it is a testimony of his affection for the players and supporters that he didn't although I think, if he doesn't sign before the Arsenal game, his position will become untenable.

I am having this debate with fellow blues at the moment. If Moyes goes, who would we want and who could we get to replace him. I am strugggling to find a credible alternative.

Moyes has gone stale. The finances are crippling his belief and his players are sensing it. These players that signed for Everton also sign for the manager. They buy into his plans, they fit into his system, he makes sure they settle, buy a house, that wives and kids are looked after. If he is waivering then the players lose form. If Moyes goes, the players will go. Some because they want out, others will be replaced by the prefered choices of the new manager.

Spurs can afford to give a new bioss £30M to mould the squad. How much Everton give to a new boss?.

Net result. New boss = selling best players and struggling to replace.

Who is the greatest manager in thew world right now? doesn't matter, Everton can not give them any money to spend.

Moyes must stay. For now.

If Moyes does leave he will either walk (for reasons best understood by himself) or will be pushed. The reasons for this could be

- new ownership wanting a new manager, and that’s anyones guess (Bilic might be interesting), or

- the results of the next five or six fixtures, so forget the beautiful game, it would be survival, and that would mean Sam Allardyce wouldn’t it?

Andy, this is an interesting one, and worryingly for me, it seems that most Evertonians at the moment would rather opt for the ’Shit or Bust’ option of bringing in the type of manager you’ve suggested.

What worries me is that we have a hell of a lot of fans with the same mentality of Newcastle and Spurs fans - "if everything ain’t smelling of roses at this point in time, any old Tom Dick or Harry would be better than our current manager". Its the kind of mentality which is shared by the Newcastle and Spurs boardroom, and their clubs are shit because of it. They outspend other ’non-top-4’ sides and end up going backwards.

Respect what Moyes has done for Everton FC, the club you love, and lets see if we can get a grip on this season.

Duncan, I agree David Moyes turned the club round. We should be grateful to him. Not, however, to the extent of offering him a ridiculously inflated salary or giving him a job for life or until he gets a better offer.

For the money on offer, we are entitled to more than the crap football that he has served up.
