Mexican stand-off

Comments (32)

I suspect we are in a different place today regarding the Moyes contract than we were 3 months ago.

We are now in a Mexican stand-off. Moyes has declared his hand; he considered leaving Everton and was open to other options hence the delay in his contract signing. Now he is waiting to see what develops with regard to the takeover and will either sign the deal when the new billionaire owner is revealed or will use the failing search for the sugar-daddy to ultimately exit Everton and join Celtic or another club better suited to the new over-confident Moyes.

For Kenright?s part he is balancing the important sale of his biggest personal asset whilst not wishing to threaten the rosey image of a united club with an all-out war on his manager for embarrassing him and the club by prolonging his contract signing.

This will ultimately be the end of an era on two fronts; first a keen, popular but naïve and forward thinking manager has matured to become a greedy and manipulative manager who now views Everton as nothing more than a vehicle for his own ego. Basically Moyes has been seduced by the riches and celebrity of football.

Second, the die-hard Evertonian Kenright has become tired of the weight of supporter expectation. The chairmanship of his ailing ?first love? is now too difficult an undertaking for him to dedicate so much time. He continues to feel obliged to not rubbish his manager in public and hopes that the problem that is now David Moyes will shortly become another?s concern.

Kenright sees an opportunity to exit the club with his investment having grown and his reputation only partially scarred. Blue Bill is the last of a generation of ?caring chairman? motivated only by their love for their club. Once gone he can only be replaced by an out-of-towner who cares neither for the fans nor the history of Everton.

Moyes will eventually be a key part of Everton?s history having contributed to the rebuilding of the club after the barren years of Smith etc and for that he deserves our respect and thanks.

Ultimately Kenright will retain some integrity and dignity after the contract farce and will still be an Evertonian. Moyes will be richer, will still be in management but will never be as Blue as you, me or Kenright.

Only my opinion but time will tell.

Pure speculation!

You know no more than anyone else who supports the club about what is going on and prepare to be bashed from both sides on this one. Too much hatred for Blue Bill and too much love for Mr Moyes out there for you to get escape the torrent.

I will say I think Mr Kenwright is in this for more than just his love of Everton, and I think Moyes deserves a little more respect for his honesty than you?ve given him there. Remember, nobody straight talks when it comes to contracts that are still in the hands of the lawyers... or anything else football-related for that matter.

Please tell me, has Kenwright ever had this?

Are you related to Doddy?

I suspect that Moyes is giving Bill one more chance to deliver ? he failed miserably with the monies for early pre-season and basically made Moyes look a fool, and ultimaely has ruined this season for EFC.

The last chance Moyes is giving Bill is to deliver a new owner capable of matching Moyes ambitions. I suspect Moyes won't sign until one owner is delivered or he will leave early next year, well before the season finishes ? he will not want to get involved in next season?s transfer merry-go-round with peanuts.

Shaun, how old are you mate and how long have you been watching Everton? Of course people are entitled to opinions, football is all about opinion... maybe Bill Kenwright isn?t seen as right on in today?s world. For me, I am not interested in some nobody millionaire who?s made money of someone's back or even their blood, and is only interested in profit.

Kenwright was what we all wanted 6 or 7 years ago; football may have changed ? totally for the worse in my opinion ? but to say "has Kenwright ever had this" is in my opinion very harsh. He certainly showed both in his dealings with Johnson ? why not call him names instead of Kenwright?

I do not believe for one instant that Kenwright is perfect ? far from it ? but I guess not all of us are waiting for some dodgy ex-prime Minister with money he most probably stole from his countrymen to invest in Everton, or some Middle Eastern head of a totalitarian state to be seen smiling in our colours...

I prefer mediocrity to corruption; but of course, like you, I am desperate for Everton to get back to being not part of the Big 4, but the Big One. But it's how we get there that?s important as well. Take it easy, we are all Blues... including Bill. Good luck! Keep cool.

George, Bill Kenwright is the reason why Everton FC 2008 is in such a shambolic state. Paul Gregg was hounded out of Everton a few years ago by our fans who labelled him a Kopite and a money grabber. If we look back now, it was in fact Gregg who had the vision for the Kings Dock stadium, which would of propelled EFC in to the new century as one of football elite. Bill Kenwright fucked it all up with his lies and under-hand dealings and has never been held accountable for his actions.

Bill Kenwright is a cancer eating away at the heart and soul of the club and should of been removed years ago. All I will remember BK for is destroying the Kings Dock deal and trying to take us to Kirkby instead. Some swap that is. Thanks Bill ? you're a real Diamond.

How many times do I have to repeat this.Davey HAS GIVEN HIS WORD he will sign before the Arsenal game.So why doubt that he will?
The most successful manager in Everton’s Premier history IS NOT about to run out on us.Takeover speculation is just that and has no bearing on the contract negotiations.
When the news is announced,I shall be looking for the Editor to launch a’Sorry We doubted you Davey’petition for you all to sign!

John " Moyes will eventually be a key part of Evertons history " How do you come to this conclusion? He has been a decent manager, but what has he actually won? He will be in Evertons history, because he will join a list of managers who have been in charge. Royle, Kendall etc, are key parts of our history, because they actually won something.

I blame Kenwright not Moyes for putting us through this. He should have given him the full £4M a year from the start instead of fucking about. Everton?s best ever signing. Happy days. Thank God for Bobby Robson!

Okay, some of you are obviously happy he has signed. But I think a few of you are going a bit OTT.
We currently lie 15th in the league, 1pt from a possible 12 at home, out of the eufa cup, out of the Carling cup. If the season continues the way it is going, will you all still be celebrating in the streets?

Can we please spell "Kenwright" correctly please?

It doesn?t do much for the credibility of a post when we can?t even identify a chairman who has been here for a decade.

Moyesie has signed a new 5 year deal!!!!

Fantastic, with all the uncertainty now removed from the players, Hibbo will now begin to pick men up in the area, and supply superb crosses from the by-line.
Tim Howard will command his area. Phil Neville will be that world class tackler and distributor we yearn for, Mikel’s corners will clear the first man, The Yak will stop rolling and tumbling in the area, Leon will bounce allcomers off the ball and it will never leave the hallowed Goodison turf for more than a second at a time.

I’m so happy I could shit.

The season better had start here or we’re Sergeant Frasered as in Dad’s army.

Perhaps the signing of Davey?s contract will motivate our players ? after all following the announcement our reserves came back from 2 - 0 to beat the RS Reserves 3 - 2 despite Mr. Cummins, a red-orientated ref [ffs how many of them are there out there!!] and the fact we had a disallowed goal, a well deserved penalty not given and the ref plays 6½ minutes extra time when there had been no serious stoppages. Let's hope it motivates the senior team to a win or draw over the next two games against the Arse and Man U.
