James Vaughan

After scoring 2 goals in tonight's mini-derby, surely the time is right for Vaughany to be given a run in the team? PerhAps dropping Yakubu will give him a bit of a kick up the arse!!!

...or perhaps putting Vaughan on the field for more than ten minutes will get him injured and we?ll lose our late-game bench firepower...

I think Saha?s ready to put out. Lord knows I?m ready for it... come on baby!

I disagree Graham.

If the Yak is provided with decent service from the midfield he will score all day; playing Vaughan will only contribute to this already terrible season.

The Yak is a goal machine, I am afraid Vaughan at this stage is of his career is nowhere near the status of the Yak.

There ain't many players I?d drop the Yak for. He?s shown year after year that he can score goals. He gets a half chance, there is a good chance it?s in the back of the net; he get a full chance, it?s deffo in the back of the net.

I?m all for the Yak to stand up front and do nothing but score, I don't like to see him drop off to the left, just stay in the box man!!

Vaughan offers speed and a very bombastic type of performance, he puts his all in but he just doesn?t have the composure of Yak.

Vaughan is absolutely electric, but he tends to be a bit too selfish at times. He needs to learn how to pass the ball. Saha would probably be better suited to partner Yak up front.

I don?t see this talent in Vaughan... he?s not developed as much as Vic... and looks clueless on the ball.

Scoring in the reserves is hardly an accolade deserving an immediate propulsion to the first team.

Clutching at straws.

I rate him highly too but dropping him for the Yak ? I don?t think so. Maybe he & Saha could share the Yak partner role (ie one starts and the other can come off the bench). Neither are up to the full 90 mins at the moment but both are a handful.

I have grown to like Vic a bit more since seeing him in the Olympics in the summer where he did well. Still, I?d be looking at him as a backup for the Yak rather than as a partner.

I agree entirely. Yakubu needs dropping from time to time, and Vaughan will work hard against Arsenal.

I remember it's worked before, dropping the Yak.

Why drop our most prolific scorer?? Why not let him do what he does best & let Vaughan play along side him, doing the majority of the running. I have said for a while that if Vaughan is fit then he should start, not cos of reserve performances because of his last run in the team which admittedly was at the tailend of the 06-07 season but in that period he was electrifying!

He had pace, power, an eye for goal & a raw energy, if he still has them attributes then he could be a top player. if injuries have stripped him of them then it is a tragedy for the young lad & us. But the only way we will know is if he gets a run of games.

For people who are saying that Anichebe is more developed now, maybe he is, but if you offered me both players at full flight, I would pick Vaughan every time, for reasons which were sort of shown in last night's mini-derby!

These two are the very near future of the club, let's give them games. Starting against Arsenal with Vaughan lining up alongside the Yak, doubt it will but it deffo should happen.

I certainly cannot agree with the suggestion that Vaughan is a better option than a fit Saha..

Anyway, if we start with a 4-4-2 on Saturday, I will eat everyone's hat.

He?s a very talented striker but he?s missed a lot of football and he didn?t have much of a pre-season, he?s not in the right condition yet to be starting. He?ll just end up getting injured again.

He needs to get reserve games under his belt, continue developing and get thirty minutes under his belt here and there for the first team.

I have no doubts he?s better than Anichebe, he just needs time to get up to speed. Vaughan proved the the 06-07 season that?s he?s a quick learner, he can have an impact in this League despite being raw in terms of technique.

Even in his short time on the pitch he?s managed to rough up some excellent defenders. Gallas on his debut and John Terry on the last day of 06-07.

He needs time though, hopefully he?s given it.

John Lloyd says "why drop our most prolific scorer [the Yak]"... well he hasn?t exactly been prolific this season has he and don?t tell me the reason is that he isn?t being given the service. Quite frankly he has fucked up as many chances as he has had goals.

I rate our chances of starting 4-4-2 on the weekend at about a million to one. Maybe even higher. But, I still love the supporters who come to the board rating this player or that player above the starter.

May I ask Mr Beesley if he has seen enough out of James Vaughan that you would start him over the Yak against the Arsenal? And when that failed miserably would you then come back on the boards to have a go at DM for doing it? I mean, we might as well throw Jose and Jack into the midfield, and another youngster along the back line. Let?s see if we can duplicate that scoreline from the end of the season a couple of years ago.

Please folks, I know you want to get rid of anyone who hasn?t produced recently, but that?s not exactly how the game is played. The Yak at his worst is more of a threat than Vic or James Vaughan, and if you can?t see that, then I can?t help you.

Yakubu does not need a kick up the arse. As has already been said, if we can provide him with the right kind of service rather than hopeless long balls to chase, then he is as good as it gets.

Pat - Its a lean spell & all strikers have them. But if you think dropping him is the way forward then we’ll have to agree to disgree.
Once he gets one the fllodgates will open. And although he has missed a couple of chances, he is getting piss poor service & seems to spending too much time coming deep or wide to get involved.......Not his fault

Pat Beesley, you talk shit!! 4 goals already this season in a crap team, maybe you think he should have scored 10 or 11? The Yak is the best goalscorer we have had in years.

Yakubu’s our best player, I have no doubts about that to be honest.

4 goals in 9 games, the least of our problems.
