Ireland vs Cyprus

Comments (23)

When I was sitting in the lower stand last night I looked up to the next tier where the directors box is. There was David Moyes peering over the railing with his arms folded. Perhaps he was on a holiday or maybe he was having a look at Duff, Mc Geady or maybe Kevin Doyle?

I think any of these three would be good for us! What do you think?

I thought Duff was excellent last night. He was like the Duff that burst on the scene at Blackburn a few years ago. He really has looked good since he came back from injury but I don't think our need is for wingers or strikers at the minute ? we are still desperately in need of some good central midfielders ? and I think you?ll agree there were none of them on show in Croke park last night either!!

Please God NO!

Having had to suffer the abysmal football from our national team in recent years ? there is not one single player in that team that would improve Everton.

Apart from a certain Mr Dunne.

Duffer is a sicknote... and will always be a sicknote. And McGeady is far too inconsistent. The rest of the team are just plain crap.

PLEASE GOD NO...

McGready definatley would be good for us, a type of winger we've been shouting out for, he?s a top player and will get even better! Doyle I'm not too sure about, is it worth spending £7 to 8 million on a striker that only gets 12 or so goals in total a season? I?d much rather save our money (if we have that type of money at all) and give a fully fit Saha or Vaughan a chance! And to be honest, I think Duff as had his day, he?s lost a yard of pace, he can't take a man on like he used to, he?s knocking on a little bit now I think and I don't think he?ll ever get back to the form he showed in his Blackburn days and early Chelsea days either!

Oozing positivity as always Ciaran!! :-)

In fairness we were crap under that clown Stan and that will take a little bit of time to put right but 7 points from 9 is a marked improvement. And to say they are all crap is unfair - Doyle was great last night, Duff and McGeady also had their best games for some time and Richard Dunne - well it is hard to swallow that we let him go.

I dont think Moyes would have been looking at any other players for us. Maybe Shay Given? I doubt he would leave Newcastle for us though.

BTW Kevin Doyle may suit us, he wins so many flick ons in the air.

I think you're all wrong, he was checking out those world-beating Cypriots. They fall more into our budget.

Judging by the way he ran himself into the ground last night, Doyle would be right up Moyes's street (a la Johnson) ? then watch as the goals dry up...

A question for you Irish lads: Who are the hoofers in the Irish side? There must be a few... if not, Moyes wouldn?t have been there.

He was blatently watching Stephen Hunt wasn't he if he was in the squad. Bet he will be with us come February.

Hoofers = John O'Shea, Kilbane (been there, done that), McShane, Gibson.

Maybe Stephen Ried would be a good addition...

John O'Shea, do Man Utd owe us any more money from the Rooney deal?

Seeing as it?s Irish night... I disagree with you Ciarán about Duff. He?s had plenty of long spells without injury and in Chelsea?s first title winning season he was outstanding. Could be Moyes was watching a Cypriot, could be he just went to the match but most likely he was looking at Doyle, Hunt or McGeady. And yes, we can hoof it with the best of them.

I heard he was looking for a holding player in midfield and was watching some fella called Carsley.

Richard Dunne has just signed a new contract with City, how much would it take to bring him back to Goodison?

He?s a solid player ? how many defenders would brave their head to clear a ball off an opposing strikers foot?

We should?ve got Stephen Hunt in the summer. He brings an energy to the team & he would have given the team a lift. £5m is peanuts these days for a player with Premier League experience, 100% commitment (which would have embarrassed other players into performing!)... and he wanted to join!
GET HIM IN JANUARY!

I call it as I see it, Seamus.... And I see mediocre players who aren?t regulars in second-rate Premier League teams... maybe I'm being a little disingenuous when I say ?crap? ? but they are not players I would want at Everton.

You cannot say there is a marked improvement with a 1-0 victory over the mighty Cyprus ? whenever they actually looked better than us... and the previous two results were hardly earth shattering either.

To me, the standard of football under Trappa seems to be exactly the same as the standard under Stan.... that?s the talent we have at our disposal.

But, it?s international football ? something that we don?t really take seriously...

But whenever people suggest there?s a place for these players at Everton ? well that is something I take seriously..

SO I?LL REPEAT. PLEASE GOD NO!!!!!!!!!

Eh Robbie Parry you are mistaken. I meant they would get onto the Arsenal team.
