Stephen Appiah

Does anyone know why Stephen Appiah is still a free agent and why we have not seriously looked at this player to strenghten our seriously depleted midfield?

Basically he?s still a free-agent, released by Fenerbahce and as yet remains unsigned. Arsenal and Chelsea are apparently after him, as are West ham - I very much doubt we?d sign him for so many reasons.

His knees are gone. Why do you think he was released?

Big Arry Redknap wanted him at Pompey but backed out because of high wage demands.

Chelsea won?t want him because they signed that Brazilian guy on a free in the same position and I can?t see Arsenal signing him. He?s the kind of player we need to protect the defence. Surely he?s worth a try on a short term contract if he passes a medical.

If he wasnt fit, Moyes would have surely already snapped him up!

Spot on Rob if he really had bad knees we’d have already signed him on a bumper deal to keep Lars, Van De Shandy and all the other losers & time wasters company !

Oh Lars Jacobsen, had totally forgotton about him..

I feel for him a bit, he was unlucky, and well calling him a loser and time waster is a bit harsh, least he managed to get himself injured on a football field unlike shandy.

"keep Lars, Van De Shandy and all the other losers & time wasters"

Like who? I thought our only long term absentee was Shandy Andy, Lars was just incredibly unlucky, like Vaughan lastseason, no amount of training can prevent a dislocated shoulder.

Appiah is apparantly a bit of a sick note though and will have ridiculous wage demands......nothing to see here

Paul Ince was interested in him for Blackburn but apparently he wanted £60,000 a week, so it’s a no-starter for us with that sort of money...

We wouldn’t even be discussing this if the club had managed the last transfer window better. We must have had some money becuase we put in bids for Ramsay and Moutinho. These were the big bids that we know of and they suggest a creative midfielder was the number one target as opposed to a Cars type player.

I believe we put all our eggs in the Moutinho basket and as a result only made inexpensive signings such as Jacobsen, Saha and Castillo. Once it became clear the Moutinho deal was dead the club went into negotiations for Fellainie . A very different player from Moutinho. Such a difference begs the question did we really know what we wanted.

Appiah is a brilliant player, a tough, deep-lying playmaker - I’d compare him to Xabi Alonso but with more grunt. He was one of the best players at the last world cup. If his knees turn out ok, he’d help any team. Im an Arsenal fan and am pissed off that we havent signed him, he’s just what we need.

Russell, I firmly believe that the bid we put in for Ramsey was never going to be accepted as Arsenal were also interested. Be honest where would you go! The first bid for Moutinho was derisory. £11m or something similar? This led to a protracted war of words between the two clubs and ended, not unnaturally, with Moutinho staying put.

I also believe that any deals done by this club involve an amount down and then the rest over a period of years. Can you be surprised that they were not interested in that. We are supposed to be in the wealthiest League in the world and we are asking for time to pay?

We are, allegedly, awash with the Sky money, £50m?, and it seems to have gone missing.

We offered the amount sporting wanted.
They accepted the offer.
We discussed the payment structure.
They wanted it all up front.

Staggering payments has been the norm in Europe for many years. and the Premier League have only begun to do this recently.

SO YES I DO THINK OUR OFFER WAS REASONABLE. I'm sick of people writing nonsense about our bids wen they have no idea and use their negativity like poisonous gas.
