Take note, Mr Moyes?

Interesting comments from Mikky.....

?Maybe we are not playing the style of football that I like, but my attitude is I have to try and do this for the team.

?I know we are never going to be a passing team with like 500 passes every game. That is not the style of Everton for the last 20 or 30 years. I know that."

I also picked up on these comments, but our best play yesterday was involving nice passes and interchanges especially between Arteta and Pienaar. The flowing football is slowly returning and we’re improving however.

Nice to see the poor bugger is resigned to the fact. We don?t need to be an Arsenal but at least mix up the hoofball with some passages of passing.

Look what happened when we gave it a go on the weekend. Like everyone else I?m just hoping the form from the 2nd half continues. If we loose to Bolton, I fear we will go back into our shells.

I fear people are getting carried away with this one half of a decent performance. We?ve still only won two games this season and only five of the last 26 going back to January! I know we all want to feel we?ve turned the corner but let?s curb the enthusiasm until we?ve seen off a few of the deadbeats we are due to face over the next few weeks.

Made me think about how much decent passing football we have seen over the years. We certainly played it the right way when winning things in the 60s and 80s. Gordon Lee?s teams actually weren?t bad; HK2, with Beardsley et al could knock it about a bit; and some bits and bobs elsewhere along the way. Other than that it hasn?t been great has it, specially the last 8 years or so. Certainly we never tried to attack under Smith. Moyes?s teams have occasionally passed it, specially at times last season, but by and large we don?t seem to have tried very hard do we?

"...it is not the style of Everton for the last 20 or 30 years. I know that."

I found that sentence the most interesting part. We have so many posters on here giving Moyes loads for the "hoofball" style of play, as if it has only been him that has played this way and not the managers before him.

Yes, we play hoofball, as our defenders and midfielders are limited; however, Arteta has said it has been this way for many years, yet to the Moyes haters, it is he alone that has brought this type of play to Everton.... interesting that!

Some of us "Moyes haters" have been going to Goodison since the 1960s ? slightly more experience of the Everton style than Mikky I suggest.

I have been going since the early 80s (the era Arteta refers to) and the phrase, "The Matt Jackson School of Football ? Hoooooooof", come before Moyes was even a manager.

Steve & Tony, Get some Goodison hours in! I’ve been going to Goodison since 1933.

To the best of my,now, hazy recollections, we were never a great ’along the ground’ passing team. Mind you, can’t remember any British side that were, in my early days as a football fanatic.

This modern football, as most ably demonstrated by Arsenal under Wenger, is a phenomenon of the Premier League. I feel its the foreign contribution of European and South America players that has had its influence on a few indigenous players. Note it is to be found most ably demonstrated by Arteta and Pienaar, though Ossie seems to appreciate that style as well
