Suspensions R Us

Comments (11)

Sadly (or on the strength of some of the comments, maybe not so sadly), the game wasn't broadcast live here in SA, although I managed to catch the last couple of minutes this morning on the delayed broadcast.

Now, by all accounts Fellaini's booking means he misses the Fulham game, having picked up 5 yellows so far. As far as I'm concerned, this is yet another fabulous example of shite refereeing ? right across the board. The lad has had ? being very kind ? a 'slow' start to his Everton career, but the improvement has been marked, not to mention the priceless goals. Obviously the confidence must be picking up no end, but now he gets to sit out the Fulham game due to an absurd yellow given during the goal celebration....... 20 year-old record signing, under massive pressure, scores a vital winner in the last minute.... cut the guy a little bit of slack surely? AND, as far as I could see, he stopped at the hoarding and didn't actually go into the crowd, or for that matter take his shirt off.

Contrast that heinous offence with some of the.... 'tasty' challenges, and disgraceful behaviour during the Chelsea v Redshite game last weekend. In particular I remember Carragher almost cutting Lampard in half on the edge of the box, and Alsonso's two-footed late challenge from behind. Neither of these earned yellows.... Alonso got a bollocking.

Yet the refs brandish the yellow at Fellaini at the drop of a hat. Some of them have been for absolutely nothing tackles.

Bitter conspiracy theorist? You bet.

Why was Fellaini booked after scoring his goal? I didn't see anything untoward during the goal celebrations. Judging from the outraged reaction from Everton's bench I hope it will be contested, as this will take him to five, with a one match suspension.

It seems like Big Dunc the young lad’s reputation in Belgium has preceded him and the Ref’s have to obey orders don’t they?

I totally agree that there is one rule for certain players and teams and one for the rest of us.

I am sick to death of this closed shop of Ref’s , NB haven’t seen Saha’s ’goal’ from last night , was it justifiably not given or was it only an excuse?

Fellaini misses the West Ham game not Fulham. Suspensions take 7 days to start unless it's a straight red card.

I am with the opening poster on this one. Out of the 5 he has already received, he was worthy of maybe one, at a stretch two.

Reputations are are dangerous thing and like Crouch, because he is gangly, he looks awkward and probably looks like he is fouling someone when he isn’t.

Then again he got away with a deliberate elbow in Vidic’s face on Saturday, good job the ref missed it, don’t know how as I could clearly see it from the lower Gwladys.

Totally unfair. He clearly stopped at the hoardings, and the outstretched arms of the blue army pulled him in. Technically he did not do anything wrong. However, I don't think you can appeal yellows so a massive loss for us down to shite refs again.

I'm sure it will be revoked on appeal... oh no, we don't play in red or are called Chelsea. Bummer...

At first I also thought he?d got away with something: however, watch it again. He doesn?t take his eyes from the ball, any contact with Vidic is accidental. And more accidental than Vidic?s constant habit of draping his arms over Fellaini?s shoulders preventing him from jumping.

I still don’t know what he was booked for. Can someone please tell me? I’ve searched the various websites and not even found that much mention of it - was there any justification and if not, why not more outrage? Are we becoming resigned to totally outrageous decisions against us???

There was nothing wrong with Saha?s goal, it was actually a lovely move too. Another example of shite refereeing, when will it end?

The game was screened on Setanta in the US at 2:00am. I taped it and played it back last night, and firstly, I couldn?t believe how wide open he was for the winner. Talk about FREE headers! And Bolton were trying to push out the back and Fellaini was in an offside position for a second and then he wasn?t and Peanut was and then he wasn?t, so Bolton got caught playing the trap and the Big Guy was WIDE open.

I digress from the subject... during the goal celebration an Everton supporter was on the pitch celebrating with the players. The players did not break off the celebration quickly enough... this is pure speculation on my part??? Fat Phil gave him the card. On Setanta at the end of the match, Fellaini goes up to the ref to adamantly plead his case and PHAT PHIL dismisses him with a scowl. Typical Dowd.

And did any of the Spurs get yellow when the Spurs supporter ran on the pitch the other night at the Emeriates? And the Spurs supporter was 30 yards from the stand. The Everton supporter was 2 yards from the ad boards.... We never get the benefit of a call.

Hate to say it but Fellaini was offside when Neville passed to Pienaar, and Pienaar himself was just offside when receiving Neville?s pass. Fellaini got back on side as Pienaar crossed to him, but strictly speaking it was offside.

However, I don?t care because we are due the odd decision or 56, having suffered at the hands of refs for years.

Harsh booking as well. You can?t tackle any more or celebrate; soon it will be netball played by robots.
