Injury Jinx

Comments (25)

Am i alone in thinking that we must be the unluckiest team in the Premier League when it comes to injuries? I'm fearful that Pienaar could be the latest addition to the long-term injury list now... which would be a massive blow as I'm not sure where the creative spark is in the team without him. Also, why oh bloody why does it always have to happen to our most key players?!

It happens because, god forbid, we get luck ever! Simple as I am afraid.

Cannot understand why it wasn’t a free kick and booking, mind you Kabul got away with nearly taking Bily's face off and taking half his shirt instead.
The game was getting a bit fiesty before hand and I thought the ref should have being flashing the yellow to calm things down, instead he waited then gave us 3 one after the other. Fuck me, I hope Pienaar is ok.

I think Osman has a voodoo doll, he’s never gonna lose his place in the team.

I think the opposite, Osman will be ousted out the team by Bily before crimbo, easy. Maybe only a few weeks!

I think Hibbert and Heitinga will be swapped about depending on who we play. The latter quite simply has no pace and won’t do against the pacey wingers.

Here’s to the future, and a midfield without Neville or Osman!

I’m afraid I have to agree with John. In one way or another Osman will be in the team for a while yet.

Moyes may have to go to 4-4-2 due lack of healthy midfielders ?

James

Its not always our Key Players who get injured.

Victor Anichebe is injured too and he’s rubbish.

Osman is a useful player to have. Not always on form but a matchwinner on his day.

I fear the new Russian Bily may be too slow for Premier League life so that's another midfield concern.

I put in another post today that the match would be a good indicator of how we’ve got it together ovet the last few weeks. The previous three games were great for boosting confidence and I believe it was that confidence and a lot of luck that got us through today. Portsmouth should probably feel gutted they didn’t get anything out of the game but we did. It’s three more points than last season so let's take that and move on.

I agree that the injuries always seem to happen to us and it’s a pain. What’s more of a pain is the way Heitinga looked today. Fingers crossed that either Neill gets a go or it gives Hibbert the kick up the arse he needs. Let’s face it, when has he ever really been challenged for his spot?

As far as Bily is concerned, I wouldn’t worry too much. I remember at school a little fat manc lad. He had no pace whtsoever but to be fair to him he had a quick brain and could spot a pass three passes before anyone else.

Now I’m not going to kid on that during break time we played to the speed of today's top flight, however, it should do us well to look back to Barlow (bless him). He was blessed with pace but what’s the use of it if your vision and speed of thought can’t match it? From what I’ve seen of Bily so far, I reckon we’ve got quality there.

Anyway onwards and upwards lads. We got lucky today. Hopefully we’ll keep this run going, lets just hope we don’t have to rely on luck too often.

I thought the 3 stooges would be out for good, but back comes Osman, boy was he fucking shite, when the ginger one took "Lord Lucan" off, he replaced him with that twat Hibbert. I was at the game and we were simply shite.

I’ll be absolutely devestated if Pineear is out for a long time because I think he is probably our best player at present and certainly our most creative.

As said in some of the posts above, it will be a double whammy for me personally because I honestly think Leon Osman is one of the poorest footballers to ever pull on a blue shirt over a long period of time!!!!!!!

I'm ecstatic with the win today but what happenend to all the possession football we have been playing in the last 3 games?!!!

The football today was awfull. Heitinga was a huge concern today — imagine if he was up against a top winger. When we signed him I expressed my worry how Milner had roasted him in an international friendly... I saw nothing today to give me hope. I’m no Hibbert fan but he seems a better right back so I’m left hoping Neill comes good for us. As for Bily he’s class on the ball

Chris Perry, what game did you watch?

The great Heitinga was very poor at right back and, through reading comments on other forums, I find I was not alone in breathing a sigh of relief when Heitinga at right back was replaced by... Tony Hibbert.

You have just joined the shortsighted army of so called fans who can find nothing to thank Hibbo for. After a bad season last year, in my opinion this year he has responded very well, especially as he has no ’Pienaar’ at half back to support any forays he may make upfield with the result he does get isolated. When Osman is banned from right midfield, I feel Hibbo will be much more secure.

I watched the game today at Fratton Block M row F seat 32. If you disagree what game were you watching? We were second best to every ball, Osman was fucking shite, they all were shite. This team you pratt are botton of the leauge, won none and they were better than us in many areas!

John Martin: Good one! I can just imagine Leon sitting at home with his voodoo dolls in miniature home shirts!

I think Stephen P’s injury is most likely a groin strain given where Kaboul’s nut connected. And never mind a booking, the ref didn’t even give a free kick! But a groin strain usually has a short term recovery period, so let’s hope!

As for Johhny H. He does seem a bit mental. Some of his facial expressions would scare Dracula! You have to think he’ll walk the walk soon! Maybe if DM can speak to him quietly (under hypnosis) he might, in our parlance, calm down. If he does, I think he might be OK, but today’s performance raises concerns.

Distin however, looks as though he’s been playing with us for his entire career and as an added bonus, seems to have helped Joe Yobbo return to his best form!

All in all, we stole the points today. So let’s move on remember today for one thing - the class of King Louis!

Any day now Osman will play a blinder. As he sails through one physical challenge after another his twinkle toes will dazzle us with delight. His inch perfect passing and powerful shooting will make the football world stop and stare in awe.

His idolising fans will fill these pages in praise of his brilliance. I’d like to see that!

John Andrews, I am not noted for being vindictive or demonstrative but years of Osman’s pathetic displays are stretching my patience. I accept the fact that he tries his best but that best is once in a blue moon.

I’ve yet to see it again, but it encourages me that he was able to play on, even if only for a minute or two. If he’d snapped a cruciate, there is no way he’s running on it straight away.

I can just about cope with him missing a couple of weeks, as we only have 2 games in the next 3 weeks, but if he’s snagged a ligament somewhere, then it is just starting a little bit to take the piss.

Also,
"I fear the new Russian Bily may be too slow for Premier League life so that’s another midfield concern"

Jesus, we are ever so patient us Evertonians. And if it’s not Bilyaletdinov, it’s Heitinga. Next up, Neill. FFS, HAVE SOME PATIENCE!!! I know we can blame the club til we’re blue in the face that they should have been blooded in sooner, but they weren’t, so get over it and allow them time to settle into a new, faster, more competitive league. Anyone wonder why Distin settled in so quick? — cos he came from a Prem side!!! Anyone would think it was rocket science!

Right, first point... We won. Second point... Portsmouth didn’t. Third Point, If you watched Distin’s post match interview? He concluded "Bad day at the office but we won".

Surely you remember the days we finished 4th, so many 1-0 wins, we played poorly on numerous occasion then too. Everton are used to winning ugly, so why the dismay now??

Spot on Stewart. Some of the moaning regarding the Portsmouth game has been ridiculous! It was our third game in eight days — all wins. Distin, Moyes etc. admitted we were poor, but we won FFS! We got three points just like Liverpool and Spurs regardless. We don’t have a squad to rotate, we are still crippled with injuries — sometimes winning ugly is what is required!

One of the reasons we didn’t pass so well is the ref gave them a free pass to kick seven shades of shite out of our players without deeming bloody cage fighting tactics worthy of a yellow!

Any critic of Billy after a couple of games is ridiculous in a new country, completely different league, can take a running jump. Dick Anderson questioning his pace — did you watch the many assists he has given so far? Keep it quiet for now will you. How about giving our new signings a few weeks at least, or is that too much to ask??

I don’t know how are you not ashamed to throw so much dirt on the names of Osman and Hibbert! They are Everton kids and they are trying their best for the club, it’s just they’re not good enough, but that’s not the reason to say such offensive things about them!!!
As for injuries that we get I really think that league association should do something about it, for example fine the clubs or players.
And about Bily I think he’s gonna be an outstanding player here (if he doesn’t get any injury that is). He has brilliant passing abilities which reminds me a bit of Beckham’s.

I’ve no doubt Osman will have some good games this season. It will be more likely at home to a Fulham or a Hull or away to Wigan or Sunderland. But you can bet it won't be against a sky 4 team.
