Arteta Blow

Comments (29)

Just announced that Mikel has had another setback (infection) with his knee injury and no official date set for a comeback — probably in New Year according to Echo!!

This doesn't look too good at all and I was astounded to read that he's still in Spain. I would have thought following the last problem (cartlidge stitches) that Rathbone would want him back at Finch Farm for his rehabilitation. Begs the question why are the players allowed to choose their own Consultants — surely there should be a club knee, ankle or whatever part of the body consultant all players should use? — and preferably based in the UK.

Just seen on BBC site that Mikel Arteta hs had his recovery put back due to an infection in the knee. I for one believe tht this seson is already a write-ff and we should be planning for next season early, when hopefully, long term injuries will be fully recuperated and we can start scouting players for eraly signing.

More bad news for Mikel and Everton again...He may now be out until Spring if not the season after picking up an infection. Is there any good news to come soon?

Just when I thought there might be a glimmer of hope that he might be back soon... Hope its not serious or anything that will keep him out too long.

So there I was, just finished work and going to catch up on the news and there it was. Arteta suffers new setback. No news on how long he'll be out but as we currently sit any time, even a minute longer without this lad on the pitch is hard to take. I feel for him but I feel more for all of us. Think it's going to be a long season lads.

Well,

If this is true... and I’m not exactly inclined to believe the Echo... then this season is effectively a write-off.

We have a serious lack of creative quality.... So I guess we can hope for mid-table at best...

The life of an Evertonian eh... Fuckin marvellous.

Gutted. Hope it doesn’t set him back too much. God we miss him!

I don’t think the club let them choose any old quack. More likely a list of say 5 top surgeons for each speciality and the players can have a say depending on where they are from etc.

Many private Docs also work for the NHS, my mate is having his ACL repaired by the same guy who deals with Leeds Utd (before they fell from grace).

With the news that Arteta is now out until the new year it looks even less likely that our challenge for Europe will take place. This puts into perspective Moyes's policy of buying players who either work hard or can play in many positions but ultimately lack creativity or flair. Without Arteta and Pienaar to some extent we lack fluidity and class. We are a team who struggle to do the basics of keeping the ball and movement of the ball. I fear a long season ahead with little entertainment or excitement...

Cannot blame him staying in Spain with family and his mate Alonso around. Better than sitting in a flat on the docks all day.

Should be settled on the Wirral or Formby by now, I just think the flats on the dock are a drop-off point.

Clearly we miss Arteta but he isn't exactly gonna turn us into challenging for the top 4 on re-appearance! We are... I dunno... a ’battling’ team and have been for quite some time and for better or worse the core reason we have being ’successful’ if you can say that in recent rseasons is because we can't, don't, and in Moyes’s case won't play the way the top sides do.

We play to our strengths... which is grinding out results with utility players. Pinning your hopes on magical Mikel to turn our season around is just foolish and now hopeless; he isn't probualy gonna be the same player he was even he comes back. I still have limited faith in our fit players.

Mr Doran,

Once again, straight in there with the unadulterated bollocks.

’We are successful [sic] because we refuse to play the kind of football the successful teams play.’

Give me strength.

And what exactly is ’limited faith’?

Bit of a paradox there.

What a blow... just what we needed. To be honest though, Moyes has explained it as a minor setback, I doubt I believe the BBC into that he’ll be out for next season.

I think maybe it gives Osman to step up now. Of course he is not as good as Arteta, but in the middle he is good, and hasn’t been given a proper go yet.

Terrible news... realistically we’re talking of a Feb/March comeback. Bill best get his cheque book out in Jan for a replacement.

Without a decent creative central midfielder we will always be lacking that extra sparkle needed to turn games around, as shown so far this season.
Will Moyes renew interest in Ever Banega?

Not good news, but not terrible news either. Having an infection washed out won’t make a massive diffrence.

I would urge all of you to not expect Arteta or Jags to be 100% on their game when they finally return anyway. It takes a good month to 6 weeks to regain full fitness, never mind match sharpness. You only have to look at Yak to see that.

I’m afraid patience is still required, plus the return of Pienaar. Realistically, back in the Summer we should have got an Arteta stand-in signed up for this season, and I guess Moyes tried with Banega, but with no money till he sold Lescott it was always going to be difficult to say the least. You can thank our Board for that one.

The reality has to be that this season will not be one to remember ...apart from a huge list of injuries.

Such is life. It happens. Not the fault of Moyes, Kenwright or anyone. If we pass on our frustration to our own, then that is crazy.

But we may have a good end of season and I expect a summer of realistic anticipation.

A February or March comeback, Sean?
Why?

He’s been training. He’s had an infection in there washed out. He’d not back at square one, nothing has been torn or snapped. He’ll just need another few weeks for the joint to settle down.

I’ve had knee problems including a cyst growing on a cartilage that was caused by an infection picked up during an arthroscopy (when they send a miniature camera in there to have a nose around) and it’s not that serious.

I reckon he’ll be back just before Christmas rather than late November. Just give him tim to get on his game when he does eventually run out at Goodison.

Karl... you were hardly playing in the elite footballing league, at 100 mph, and nor do you know the real situation with Arteta's knee...

And as for asking us to give players time to regain form after lengthy layoffs, give your fellow Evertonians a bit of fuckin' credit, lad.

Ged Simpson; this is not the fault of Kenwright? If that clown was able to provide proper backing for the manager then we would have a proper replacement for Arteta signed in the summer. Banega would have been signed before he started making himself indispensable to Valencia.

We never had a chance this season because YET AGAIN Ged, Kenwright screwed up; no money, no ideas, no lessons learnt. We knew Arteta, Jags etc were long-term absentees but no-one was signed til we sold Lescott.

How I wish Moyes would resign and hang Kenwright out to dry; how I would love to see the fans mobilise and boycott a game or stage a march against this wretched, lying Board. But they won’t Ged, and it's because of people like you.

Tony:

Since some people on here seem to view Arteta’s latest (relatively minor) setback as a catastrophe, it follows that when he’s back there will be high expectations.

Of course, if he isn’t bossing games from Day One, how long do you think it wil be before there are some on here calling him ’a useless Spanish cunt’ or some such thing and suggesting we get rid, he’s ’lost it’ or that he’s ’lazy’? Less than a fortnight probably.

So, whilst I do give Evertonians in general some credit, I know the vocal minority have a habit of shooting from the hip... usually quite abusively.

Don’t want to be a bearer of bad news but I was told last Saturday before the Villa game that Mikel would be out for some time and that his knee may not recover to allow him to play top flight football again. I dismissed it as scaremongering, but another set back.

I hope the info was wrong and that he does play again, but it seems odd that he has had these setbacks... Didn’t Jags have the same injury??

Spot on, Karl... too many of our fans are only too keen to jump on the backs of players struggling for form and want rid at the first signs of a dip. They fail to remember form is temporary, class is permanent. I have read fans on here wanting rid of pretty much every one of our players at one stage or another.

Gareth Hughes, so you would be quite happy for Kenwright to get the funds in that plunges our club into debt that we cannot afford to pay back? I am pretty sure he could get his hands on 50 million provided the banks then effectively own the team, and can decide when they are sold. Sound good to you? Feel free to speak to any Portsmouth fans if you think spending money that the club cannot afford is a good idea. They can tell you what the result is.

’How I wish Moyes would resign...’

I think we have all been so dreadfully optimistic about our injury situation. Injuries as serious as those suffered by Neville, Anichebe, Jagielka and Arteta are career threatening. Being fit to play is one thing, working up to your optimum match fitness and performance is another. I believe this season will be transitional and I’m looking forward to a good run in the Europa cup, steady progress up the league and a good cup run. Next year with a full squad will be intersting.

If I had a cat I would kick it. In fact, if I had 11 cats I would kick them all.

Moyes’ demeanour when questioned on the subject yesterday suggested he was less than comfortable (WAY less than comfortable) with how this is being handled, i.e. in Spain.

The fact that Jags is almost back and will probably be 3 months ahead of Arteta suggests superior surgery & recouperation. Barcelona is warmer & nicer this time of year, but that hasn’t helped him or us.

I can’t exactly get excited about Jags coming back...he’s not that much better than Yobo..and the defensive ’switch offs’ we’ve had recently could just have easily have been committed by him...having said that it’ll be great to have him back - but the overall effect to the team ability will be minimal...

We needed arteta, Pienaar and Billy in the same team!

grrrrrrr.

Dave, can we borrow you cat and give it a kicking?
