Take these shades from my eyes

We know all about his injury problems yet Moyes no longer gets my sympathy. The latest Benfica game opened my eyes to things that have little to do with missing players and everything to do with the very poor technical ability and lack of basic football nous of our players. What is most depressing is the inability of Moyes to either recognise where the weaknesses lie or do anything about it.

It has been common knowledge for years that Hibbert, although a good tackler, is useless at crossing a ball. What has Moyes or his staff done about it or did they give up trying?

Similar can be said about other players who week-in, and week-out parade their very obvious faults. Anyone with half a brain knows who they are so I won’t bother to list them. I have to wonder what, if anything, our coaches are doing about them.

There is no argument that Benfica gave us two lessons in how the game can be played. With a bit of luck in both games they could have doubled their tally of goals. They played with a purpose, strength, speed and ability that put our mob in the shade.

The awakening for me was that where Moyes has had 8 years to set a standard and pattern of play, Benficas coach, Jorge Jesus, has only been in the job for a mere 4 months.

That last sentence sums it all up for me.

Dick - with respect, have you not noticed that fact that we still have around 8 first team players out injured, and another 2 inelligible for European games?

Laying in the manager at the moment is nothing short of scandalous.

Apart from Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea, theres not a team in the division that could cope with the losses we’ve coped with this season - and I stand by that as fact.

Whatever happened to supporting your team through thick & thin eh?!

Everton supporters are generally a smart bunch, but when people start pointing the finger and laying blame, all I see is a blinkered view that holds zero weight.

Onwards & upwards I say, we’re still in a good position in the group and once we get our players back, we’ll have a half decent season. This is purely a (albeit long) blip due to a small squad and bad injury list.

End of.

Has there been a problem with TW ? How come it has taken this long to establish that Hibbert was, of course, to blame for last nights debacle.
Could I also mention that Baines, who I admire, did not put one decent cross in. That Cahill was anonymous. That Fellaini was, well, Fellaini. That no one looked capable of trapping a bag of shite. That no-one could find a blue shirt, that the concept of pass and move is viewed with the same suspicion as evolutionary theory in Alabama.
Let’s get this right..there was only one man to blame for the disgraceful shambles last night....Osman

Anyway I’m going to listen to a play on Radio 4 about Tony Kay. And weep quietly.

James, don’t be trying you sly arguments and your truth with me sonny me lad jim bob, it doesn’t wash.

It’s Hibbert’s/Osman’s/Fellaini’s/Moyes’s/Cahill’s/Kenwright’s fault dontchaknow?

There is no excuse from all sectors, manager not seemingly giving a toss and neither are the players, these overpaid fashion horses are starting to even get on my tits now. A pass of 10 yards is not hard, I can do it and I have only ever played Sunday League level.

The injurues ARE a big issue because we do not have one creative player in the midfield, Bily can be, if he can be arsed to actually move about a bit

How ironic it must’ve been then that Hibbert put in the best cross of the game near the end!

Come on Ciaran, even I, who defend Hibbert all the time can’t go with that. The best cross of the game was from Bily when he turned their right back, unfortunately Cahill wan’t up to it.

Hibbert was one of few Everton players to come out of the Benfica game with any credit. He stifled Di Maria, tried to play pass and go football (unfortunately Gosling wasn’t up to it), put in a few good crosses, showed passion and skill. Of course it was his fault we lost!!
