Outstanding arrogance

Comments (21)

As I sat nursing my European lager bought in honour of our continental football tour, it suddenly dawned on me that for sometime now I have been losing the connection I once had with my boys in blue.

Their aloof attitude and arrogant and lazy body language would be appear to be infectious in-so-much-as I feel let down by them and disassociated from them.

Last night was a case in point, we will hear about the effort that the boys put in from those in management; however, I whole heartedly disagree. I saw pure arrogance and ambivalence to the shirt and a lazy, blasé attitude to the game in which they were competitors.

Chief amongst these offenders was the leader of the group, the ridiculously floppy haired, half-hearted excuse for a footballer, our record-signing — Fellaini. If the future of Everton FC is to include this man, then it is not a future I see myself a part of. His attitude is infectious too like a cancer spreading its vile disease through the squad.

Bily looks disinterested, Cahill mysteriously lacking in enthusiasm, Gosling a passenger and Yobo may as well take to the pitch with a deckchair under one arm the amount of effort he puts in. In short, the spirit has gone, the confidence shattered and replaced by arrogance and a misguided sense of self-entitlement.

I have to disagree. Some players have a look of urgency about them, that "coiled spring" look...while others come across as much more laid back (sometimes to be misinterpreted as lack of interest).

One of the Channel 5 commentators summed it up well last night by saying "to compete with a very good Benfica side, any team would have to be at their strongest," ..... Everton are at the moment far from being able to field their strongest team.

The confidence was low I’ll agree to that, but that’s not to be unexpected when you consider they all probably (deep down) knew they were on a hiding to nothing... if there’s anything going to sap enthusiasm and confidence it’s our situation at the moment.

I just want time to pass quickly to the point wehre we have all our injured players back... because, without them, good skilful teams like Benfica will beat us nine times out of ten.

Were you not watching the same game as me Gavin? Fellaini was everywhere in the 1st half and involved in everything we did. Tracking back getting forward, closing people down winning flickons, the second half he was less involved and looking tired but he was one of the few still trying when we were 2 down.

I saw The Big Hair celebrate a goal recently and it made Staurt Pearce’s penalty celebration against Spain look subdued. His gangly frame does him no favours...

How anyone can single Fellaini out on last nights performance is beyond me.

I thought he was much improved... he was immense in the first half... great ball control, vision and passing.

And he even bloody sprinted at one point!

Cahill and Yakubu were king of the muppets for me.

I am not so much interested in the individual performance of any particular player as this will alter from game to game,as the collective performance of the team as a whole.

Last night it was lamentable, as bad as any I have seen in recent years. The body language of players over the last few weeks, and especially last night, is an indication of a team in crisis. Morale and confidence is shattered when a team plays without any apparent direction. A good number looked distinctly unhappy to be there.

If that is the situation the problem is greater than the loss of a few players.

My two whipping boys are fellaini and hibbert but i thought both where brilliant last night. Gosling and Bily where unbeleivably bad, boy how we need a winger. We miss pienaar and Arteta so much. When they are back, we have an outstanding team capable of top notch footy, they just need to be part of it.

Fellani’s passing was terrible. I have read on here some regard him as one of the better passers in our team....that is really not saying much in that case then! Its unfair to single him out for last nights performance but I have to agree that he, if he the future for Everton, isnt going to be the shining light bring trophies into our dusty cabinet.

I fear that Fellaini has been added to the Osman and Hibbert hate brigade.

To me he was our best player by a mile last night and looking at the multitudes of post today a majority agree with this view.

I totally agree Des Farren - I think the players personal confidence, and their confidence in others is completely shot. The same 12-14 players are being dragged out game by game with little support, with little rest, and I suspect a number being asked to play with injuries/illnesses or whatever. The bench last night was an utter disgrace for aclub who attain geat heights and are targetting Top 4 , CL pretentions.

Their morale is low ,the expectation being placed upon them by the crowd is ridiculous. We all know that the quality isn’t there to open teams up. The back 4 as Tim Howard stated is changing every game and Moyes’s only current game plan of keeping a clean sheet and nicking a goal is totally flawed before we walk on the pitch.

I do fear the worse as I’m not sure how committed Pinnear and Arteta are in returning - I see Arteta has spent all his time in Spain and surely this cant be right and I see Pinnear isn’t willing to give it a go at the moment and apparently has agreed to go back to SA for the World Cup draw in eraly December - both should be made to get into Finch Farm and stay/support the team until they return.

The Board and Moyes have caused this issue, the players know it and I think we are starting to see their reaction - or lack of it on the pitch.

Did you not notice the amount of wayward passes Fellani made last night? We need a leader in the middle of the park, someone who will provide a spark when heads are down. Fellani gave up just like the rest of them did.

Yes Anthony i remeber the amount of wayward passes Fellaini made, it was about 2 by my count. But at least he wasnt hiding like a lot of the other players on the night.

Captain Cahill was nowhere to be seen last night but Fellaini gets slagged off?

Fellaini was much improved last night and never went missing like a few others in the midfield with him ie. Cahill, Gosling.

Agree with Peter and the others before him. Dont know how you managed to single Fellaini out of that match - Was probably our best player in the first half although he was not as good in the second half. But he was far from the worst.
Personally i just cannot believe how anonymous Tim Cahill was last night, and in the season to date to be honest. Also Yak - just how long does it take to get back to fitness? He has been back in the squad for weeks now.
Yobo is another - can that man do nothing other than hoof the ball? Distin seems to have also caught the bug and Baines now cannot get a cross past the first man. Gosling is a kid who like Rodwell has potential, but need to be introduced to a team which is doing well rather than a struggling team if we are to get the best from them. All the players i just mentioned could have been singled out ahead of Fellaini.

Fellaini was and has been our best player for the last few games. He is the only player looking for the ball, taking responsibility and trying to start attacks off. Why he is been made a scapegoat is beyond me. Worse news I have just reas is that Jags is out for another 4 - 6 weeks with a cartilage tear!!!!

Good point about Fellaini, Gavin. For the first time in a long time I am starting to lose a bit of interest in the Toffees. I am finding it really hard to watch him play. Okay, he is still young... but no-one can tell me he is good enough or shows the right attitude to play for Everton.

He wanders around the park in a world of his own. He tackles like a winger. And sometimes he is coward-like with his elbows. This could be Moyes's downfall for covering for daft Bill by saying we payed €15 mill for him, when really its more like £3 mill... meaning he has to play him.

I know the whole team are playing bad at the moment but we need a midfield more than anything right now and he is no midfielder in my book.

Gavin got as far as reading your comments about Fellaini. Well I guess there’s no pleasing some and how could you forget to mention he cost €15m. Lost all sense of meaning after that.

Mike Oates... How can you say we are a a club targetting top 4?? Do you truely believe that? If so, I’d be interested to know that has given you that impression. (If I’ve missed something, I apologise in advance... Been a long day!)

While i certainly don’t think he was as great as some people seem to think against Benfica, he was no worst than anyone else. They all played absolute shite

Alec Laurie il try to answer that question.

We have consistantly been the team who is best of the rest and also continued to improve each year for the past 3 seasons, so the next step has to be a top 4 finish or we will have to win a cup.

We are only 6 or 7 points behind 4th spot as i type, with a game in hand on most teams above us. We have had worse starts to the season and much worse teams and still managed to turn it around. Eventually we will hit form and injured players will return and you will see us fly up the table.

We might not make 4th but we have a much better chance than the over rated and forever under achieving Man City and Spurs.

’We might not make 4th but we have a much better chance than the over rated and forever under achieving Man City and Spurs’

Are you really serious or just plain deluded??? City and Spurs will both finish above us this season as well Aston Villa and the way were playing a few others too. It tickles me when some on here talk about breaking into the top 4. Dream on!!! We did it once in a particularly bad year in general for the PL. Lets not forget we came 4th with a ’minus’ goal difference!! Thats tells me how good we were that year.
To ’break in’ to the top 4 would suggest we are in there year on year. Well we’re light years from that for a whole host of reasons but mainly cos were just not good enough!!! Do you really think City, Spurs, Liverpool, etc are looking over their shoulders thinking they gotta keep an eye on Everton??? Not in a month of Sundays!!
Be realistic. Its less painful than the ultimate disappointment

Why am i deluded? Every year for the past 7 years i have been told Everton are going to have a relegation battle on their hands and this is the year Newcastle, spurs, Villa or City are going to break the top 4.

’’It tickles me when some on here talk about breaking into the top 4. Dream on!!! We did it once in a particularly bad year in general for the PL.’’ Was that the same year we finished above the European Champions? Yes it must have been a terrible year for English football.

I dont expect us to break the top 4 i just believe we have a better chance than Spurs and City. Villa have proved themselves over the last couple of years so i expect them to have the best chance especially with Liverpools injury problems.

So the team that finished 4th in the Prem with a minus goal difference is evidence that the league was especially strong that year?? Or rather that the top 3 were way ahead of everyone else??
Liverpool may have won the Champions league that year but even their fans would tell you that was a poor Liverpool side. We limped thru the last month of that season and with Liverpool concentrating on the CL they threw points away like it was going out of fashion which allowed us to stay in 4th. Dont kid yourself that we are anywhere near a Champions League side - Were not and if anything came from the lessons Benfica gave us then surely its that.
