Saturday's Game

Will Moyes be adventurous against Man U now there is a possibility we could have Pienaar, Neville and Osman back? Is the Pope a Catholic?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's the usual safety first, and try to nick a point. How often have we seen this tactic fail time and time again? Eventually we concede and then have to chase the game only to concede again as we push forward! Sunderland and Blackburn had a go and Sunderland got a point (I seem to recall Blackburn should have had a penalty).

It's a shame Bily isn't available but even if he was, the tactics would no doubt remain exactly the same. What a shock it would be for Ferguson to see an Everton team come flying out the blocks instead of the usual timidity and caution!!!

Bily has been compared to Pele (a very good Brazilian footballer like Jo) by Pavlyuchenko so Ferguson may well decide to pick him up next year along with Rodwell by dipping into his pocket for some loose change.

Go for it on Saturday Davey, and show them you aren't a one trick pony after all. COYB!!!

Nope. Same old negative football inviting them on to us until we go 1-0 down. Then put on Jo to save the day!!!

It doesn’t matter who we play, whether it be Man U or Hull, it will always be safety first from Davey boy.

Our game at OT in Oct 2002, early in Moyes’s reign, was a high water mark in terms of an away performance against the big boys.

Despite losing the game to goals in the 89, 90 & 92 minutes, in the game we attacked relentlessly every time we had the ball. Gravesen and Li Tie were superb. Rooney could/should have won it for us before they got the late goals/pen.

Since then the only game that we have stood up to be counted in away to the Sky 4 was last season at Stamford Bridge.

It’s as much a state of mind as anything else. Man U’s defence is in disarray right now, they’re not ripping up trees and we should, by rights, just go for it.

But this is David Moyes we’re talking about. And we are also not playing too well. If the West Ham game has given them impetus then expect a mild hurrah, otherwise it will be a strategy of containment.

And we all know what happens to those who set out solely to contain...

It is pretty sad isn’t it when we all know what is coming.
Contain, create jack shit and lose to a late penalty.

Man Utd away on Saturday then 8 days later it’s Liverpool at Goodison - ye flipping ha. The following 3-4 fixtures aren’t going to be that generous either.

Have to admit i’m not looking forward to the aftermath of both games, i’ve just started a job in an office full of Utd and Liverpool supporters, not the type you can talk to on reasonable terms about football, i think, sadly, we’re in a for a really tough few weeks.

Happy Christmas fellow Toffees, Moyes is going to batten down the hatches, tighten your seatbelt it’s going to be a rough ride. Gone are the days when Duncan Ferguson took the fight to Utd and Liverpool like William Wallace in Braveheart.

I’d sacrifice my whole Christmas just for a flukey victory in the Derby!!!

I hate to be a defeatest but I’ll take a point from Old Trafford at best.

The Liverpool game however is entirely winnable. Got a feeling we could turn them over.

0-1, Rodwell, I can see the ’Jack the giant killer’ headlines now...and then I woke up.

I would really love to see us go out from the first minute and attack and put teams under pressure, but it will probably be us who will be under pressure from the 1st minute, and try and hang on for a draw. Then when that doesn’t happen the usual suspects will come on and change nothing.

What a load of defeatist rubbish is being spouted about our chances.
Where O where is our fighting spirit and that super optimism for which we are world famous.
We are Everton dammit, Nil Satis Nisi Optimum is our motto and from the latin.

Our unwritten motto is from the scouse and roughly translates into d’ bigger deyar dee arderdeyfall.
Manure is overdue for one hell of a hiding and we are going to give it to them.
That brings me to our other motto, also from the scouse. This one goes something like.

Yerv gorra laff or yerd cry,

"Bily has been compared to Pele (a very good Brazilian footballer like Jo) by Pavlyuchenko..."

compared how exactly??

as in "compared to Pele, Billy is average at best?"

Not even Rooney compares favourably to Pele!

And Jo??? pffftt!

If Moyes believes you can defend a 1 goal lead for 89 minutes (as he tried in the cup final), then most certainly he will do it everytime we play the big guns and indeed virtually every game we play throughout the season no matter who it is.

A confusing post John.

You ask, Will Moyes be adventurous against Man U now there is a possibility we could have Pienaar, Neville and Osman back? and seem tto answer with the question, Is the Pope a Catholic?

The answer to ’is the Pope A catholic is yes’. You then go on to say you expect the answer to your first question to be ’no’.

If they are available, I would expect Pienaar at least to play, and maybe Neville. We don’t have enough midfielders not to play them.

And besides, Man U may have a good record so far this season and lie second, but they have been tested by teams that we are at least the equal of. So if we have those players ready, go for it, lads!

Howard
Neill, Yobo, Distin, Baines
Bily, Rodwell, Heitinga (give it a go after Villa), Pienaar
Saha, Cahill
Stronger bench, too. Fellaini, Yak, Osman, Neville.

If we play with 2 holding midfielders and 1 up front at HOME to Wolves ... do you really think we are going to try and attack AWAY at Man Utd.

I find our tactics totally embarrasing at times.

We have to get through to Xmas without too much grief. Hopefully we can get at least some draws. Problem is that against the likes of Manure it’s hardly likely because although a back four of Neill, Yobo, Distin and Bainesy seems quite capable.

The problem is that when we need to hold what we have, the midfielders are constantly tackling and passing poorly thereby increasing the pressure on the back four anyway. We do not play keepball long enough to give them a rest like other teams.

Yes we will put up a fight for long periods but usually go down in the end. It would be nice to break the top 4 voodoo sometime and this Saturday Manure may seem like a good opportunity as they are not firing on all cylinders but they have so many options that it seems we will have to get very lucky.
