The Mail Bag
Finally...

Myself and two of my mates are heading to Manchester tomorrow for the weekend for the Utd game. I am absolutely delighted and am like a child on Christmas Eve in work at the moment. It is my first time getting to see Everton play in the flesh and I can't wait.
Now, before you ask, I'm not 12... I'm 35. And I know, I know, why didn't I just hop on a plane years ago, Dublin isn't exactly the moon, is it? Well for different reasons I've just never got round to it.
I don't know any Everton fans and I've tried the whole supporters club meeting in a bar to watch a game thing once or twice but never really fancied it. This has left me with friends who are mostly Utd or Liverpool fans. Over the last seven years I've been away to Old Trafford with all the lads from my last job four or five times. They're all Utd fans and there wasn't a hope in hell of them spending €400 to €500 for a weekend in Liverpool. The weekends away have been great entertainment and just to spend two days on a beer and footie trip was great, even if it wasn't at my club of choice.
Now I can understand completely you asking why I don't just go over to Goodison on my own? I know this isn't much of an excuse but part of the draw of going on a footie trip is that you're going with your mates and going on my own just wouldn't feel the same. It also seems easier to justify the expense, especially with a mortgage and a wedding next year.
As a slightly better effort at an excuse, Everton did play a pre season friendly over here against Bray a few years ago but I was trying to impress a girl and a night out with her and the chance of getting my end away clashed. ( Jesus, that probably sounds worse than the previous paragraph. Turning my back on football for a girl.)
But anyway, back to Saturday. I can't wait to be at the ground in the run-up to the game and to see several thousand Everton fans around the place. I can't wait to see the Everton team, in the flesh, walk out onto the pitch. No Z-Cars I know, but I'll still get a buzz out of it. Seeing the team take shape off the ball and how they manage things outside of what the cameras show. How I'll handle it if we score, I don't know as we're in with the home support, but I'll manage a smirk. To be honest I don't think a bad result will even bother me that much because I know I really will enjoy the whole experience.
Well, there you go. The good, the bad, and the ugly around why this is my first Everton game. I'll try to post next week with how the trip went.

ps: I am hoping for a 1-0 away win courtesy of an Evra og to soothe the pains of Wednesday night’s injustice against us Irish.
COYB.
I just hope your first encounter with our great club, is memorable one, and you go away with lasting joy. If we can put out a decent side, I hope they can perform.
I can't remember much about the game only Norwich scoring first and a Trevor Steven penalty as the equalizer was my first experience of what was going to dominate my daily thoughts for my future life.
In 21 years, I can't beleive we have won one fuckin' trophy. But I wouldn't change Everton for any other team or commercial organisation. COYB — I predict a morale boosting one-all draw tomorrow too.
If you're looking for fellow Everton supporters to go see a game with there are plenty of clubs that meet up for games in pubs and take trips to see games ...http://www.irish-toffees.com/... is one of the major ones. Enjoy the game, Rooney to score the winner for us. :)
You would ve been better off going shopping at the Trafford Centre instead!!!!!
We can harp on about our injury list but lets be realistic....were gutless and pants!!!

It was a great game for me to watch I was just happy we had scored to be honest. but by the end I was shitting myself the Norwich crowd wanted blood, and had started to get a bit frisky between themselves with a few scuffles here or there as I remember.
By the end, my jean jacket was buttoned up all the way to the top and I kept me head down as I scarpered toward the exit in total terror, coupled with absolute delight that Everton had done me proud and put five past Norwich in the Cup...
