Fools and horses

Liverpool had Beniyoun and Aurelio set for a month's lay off, Viola! a rub down with horse placenta and they did not miss a single game. It makes a complete farce of the constantly revised recovery date that is issued for our injured players. Then we discover that a list of top clubs have players queuing up for the same placenta treatment and have done for some time.

His continuously revised estimates on the return of all our injured players show that Baz Rathbone is only guessing and completely out of his depth on such matters. I am not saying that this placenta treatment is succesful but I am saying that whatever we are doing right now is not as effective as at other clubs. With our injury list being so huge every possibility would have been tried and tested...

Tottenham 9!!!-1 Wigan... now that’s what you call football.... pass and move and plenty off pace... nothing like the shite we play. To think we're already falling behind the likes of Spurs... It's embarrassing!

Hold on a second... There are Everton fans on here who wanted the Wigan manager to be the Everton manager so we could play brilliant flowing football... Look where it gets you if you don't have the personel.

Martinez might have been able to get his avarege players in the lower leagues to knock the ball about, but at the highest level he will be exposed.

Dick - I know you are in Australia, but even that far away you must know that torn cruciate ligaments won’t be cured by rubbing horse placenta on them!

Our players are not suffering from aches and strains, we have at least 5 major knee injuries...Arteta, Anichebe, Neville, Jags and Pienaar.

The players who have been using that placenta are Lampard and Benayoun who have tight hamstrings or thigh strains.

You must have been on the tinnies if you think rubbing some old nag’s juices into a potentially career ending injury will make any difference.

Off topic,
I have just seen on the newsnow Everton page a link to the Telegraph with the headline "Everton Fans wish death on Rooney’s son". The link doesn’t work, so I can’t read the article, but wtf!!

Surely the Telegraph have had to pull this article. Did anybody read it before it was ’possibly’ pulled?

Didn’t read it myself Ellen, but I’ve been told it was unadulterated shite, with no evidence to back it up, and that it was written as if it was just the hack's opinion, rather than an actual occurence. Probably why it's been pulled.

I am not a doctor, but I do have a friend who is a pharmacist. Apparently the horse placenta is used as a cream/lotion and rubbed in with a combination of deep massage and ultrasound treatment.

It is very difficult for anything to be absorbed through the skin... hence it is probably a combination of the massage and ultrasound that is actually working. And why it ’works’ well on muscle strains. It seems like a big con to me
On the other issue — I was there yesterday and heard nothing about the Rooney baby chant — someone trying to stir it me thinks.

Don’t know about horse placenta but I think our players have been rubbing themselves with horse manure.

In agreeance with you Dick. I couldn’t believe Beniyoun, Aurelio and even Gerrard have come back so quick.

I think the worst part is the Official site saying that Pienaar, Neville, et al were a chance of playing over the weekend about a week ago.

I still can’t believe the players are able to choose their own surgeons and where they have it. I know Arteta is such a vital player to us but given we pay his wages, wouldn’t we make it our priority to choose his surgeon and in the destination of our choice?? How the fuck does it work that he gets to have, what will be a 9 month lay-off, in Spain.

I bet my left testicle that Torres overcomes his injury for the derby!!

Karl, Nick, I did not say the horse treatment was successful. What I hoped to convey was that other clubs are looking at alternative ways to speed up recovery.

In the case of Benyioun and Aurelio it was announced by the RS that they would be out for at least a month. They had the placenta treatment and played in their next game. Can either of you gentlemen offer a plausible explanation what brought about such a dramatic cure?

Everton’s treatment room give recovery dates that are miles off the mark. On top of that we are hearing about rehabilitation set backs and infections of the injured parts.

The impression I get is that Everton’s medicos are out of their depth and deal far too much in guesswork with as little modern scientific input as a jungle witch doctor.

You have to ask questions about our medical staff. Arteta,Jags AND big vic have had expected comeback dates put back, and Pienaar, who at the time was supposed to be out for "2/3 weeks" has now not played for TWO MONTHS and still no sign of a comeback! Rathbone IS out of his depth.

Why does everyone seem to think our players are not being looked after properly? You’re all off your bloody heads I tell you.

Do you seriously believe that a professional football club would not make sure their players are getting the best treatment available so as to get them back playing ASAP?

This is all madness, utter madness. Most of them are lucky to be playing again - 20 years ago (or less) they’d have been made into glue by now!

Patty, and what is pregnant mare’s urine also used as - Premarin. Who in the world worked out rubbing sharks liver oil on your arse would help haemarrhoids? Who knows what works? The father of a very old friend of mine was a herbalist and she had never taken any form of medication other than herbal stuff her dad taught her about and last time I saw her she was in her late sixties and doing very well.

But picking up the Rooney story... so wasn’t the story in the papers a few months ago that he said if it was a boy he was bringing it up an Evertonian?

Perhaps he is able to separate his work from the rest of his life. But hey — am I pissed he left? Too right. Is life long enough to hold a grudge for the rest of it? Probably not.

Jesus Christ, Dick!

So what if LFC announced 2 players were gonna be out for a month and then they weren’t?

Maybe they mis-diagnosed the problems in the first place. Maybe it is Rafa’s Medicos who are out of their depth and should be sacked! Does anybody know the side effects of this Equine Wonder? Will coming back too soon only cause problems later on?

Injuries are hard to put timescales on. People recover at different rates. It’s part of the human oddity - just like some people seem to look old before their time ( fat, greying and and lethargic in their twenties and others seem to go on looking young for years.

A lot of it is genetic, although I happen to think myself there is mileage in what Gavin suggests above.

But me, Gavin, you and any other fan, unleses a professional in the Medical industry, can hardly claim to know more than the Qualified experts Everton employ. It’s frustrating these players are out, but calling our people incompetent as a result is just a load of unsubstantiated bollox, mate.

OK Karl, I concede,
Now, after being headbutted on the knee and not sustaining any torn ligaments or such just when will Pienaar be fit?
Your estimate could be as close as mine or Baz’s. The difference is that he supposedly is a top man in that field whereas both of us are not.

Ah, Mr Pienaar.

Well, that’s a tough one, Dick as they have not really said what is wrong with him. I suppose you could argue that it’s not actually a good idea to publicise injuries to your opponents and keep them guessing over tactics etc. With Pienaar being our one creative player in Arteta’s absence there may be some truth in that.

However, with it being World Cup Year and young Steven having emerged as RSA’s star player in recent months, I suspect he won’t be returning to action till he’s good and ready.

I have heard another rumour about a couple of players serving hush hush bans for minor drug offences, but frankly as the Press always sniff stories lke that out I can’t believe it’s true, never mind affecting Mr P.

So in short, I don’t know - just like you. But, having endured knee problems myself, I do know what a complicated joint it is and how log rehab can take and as it was some force that Mokoena caught him with at Fratton Park, I never once thought at the time he’d be out for less than a month. As it’s nor approacking 2 months, I can only assume it was more serious than we first were told.

Could someone reliable please confirm if Everton fan's at Old Trafford on Saturday were singing about Wayne Rooney's son? There is some press about it and there are conflicting accounts about if it did occur or not.
