Anyone who is drooling at the prospect of adding Spurs Scottish reject Alan Hutton to the squad in order to shore up our pathetic defence may wish to follow the link to the News of the Screws story and note that this international super star can't even tie up his own boot laces. Maybe his mum puts his bus fare in his glove on matchday so he doesn't lose it and end up playing for someone else by mistake.

Hopefully there is some truth to this rumour but has become unhinged by the inability of the NOTW to spell 'Huddlestone'. He would be worth spending money (we don't have) on.....

It would not surprise me in the least. The dream of a wide player with pace being bought is just that.

I am sick of the injury shouts, isn’t that what squads are for? And if you look at our 11 on Saturday, all bar Gosling have shouts of being first choice dependent on form.

The reason we are garbage is because we have an unbalanced squad that consists of one natural wide player and even he plays centre mid for his country. We are making a fool out of Cahill who is in his worst form ever and is now becoming a target of the fans, basically as he is being asked to play in a position he is not cut out to do.

If we played Yobo their would the fans slag him? No, they would blame Moyes. But still the press and outsiders speak like Moyes is not any of the blame and we are holding him back and that cracks me up.

I saw Hutton a few times for Rangers and both he and Carlos Cuellar both looked decent. Paul you have hit the nail on the head over unbalanced as how many defensive players will this now put on the books? FFS Moyes buy a fucking flair player, buy an attacking, skillful player and less of these defensive utility ones, your defensive football is dreadful to watch.

Why would we be after a right back? Because Moyes panicked and bought Heitinga to play there and then realised his best postion is centre back? What a dope, what are we going to do when everyone is fit? We are going to have 4 top centre backs (Yobo, Distin, Jags and Heitinga) but only have two places in the team between them whereas in other areas of the team we look weak e.g. right back, defensive midfield and right midfield, and we certainly have no quality in depth in these areas.

I can’t help thinking Moyes really should have signed another midfielder who is comfortable on the ball to help fill the void of Arteta rather than splashing out on Heitinga who is now being forced to play out of position where he looks a bit out of his depth.

Moyes’s mantra:– If in doubt, buy another fucking defender and then still play Hibbert.

If Moyes signs Hutton in January then I will conclude that Moyes has totally lost the plot. We have Hibbert (totally crap but a right back), Neville, Neill, Heitinga and Coleman who can play there. It can be argued that we should be looking to sell a right back, not sign one.

Poor old Moyes looks to me like a busted flush, a guy who has reached the end of his natural shelf life at Everton. His ridiculous refusal to sign wide players with pace undermines him more with every stale, clueless performance. The funny thing is that we will probably go to Hull and grind out some God awful 1-0 win on Wednesday and the Moyes acolytes will rise up once again.

BUT... I really feel we are seeing, if not the end, then the beginning of the end of Moyes’s time at Everton. And I, for one, think that will ultimately be good for Everton if a more progressive imaginative coach can be found.

I’m sorry but I fail to see what is to be gained from slagging off the manager regarding a transfer link in the NOTW!!

Ha,Ha! Some of you need to get a grip! Alan Hutton is just as likely NOT to be signed so why bother wasting energy on getting upset about it?

I guess some are using this garbage as just another platform from which to launch your ’Moyes Out’ drivell.

I have been as frustrated as anyone this season and I agree, the football is pretty bad right now. However, I’m prepared to be patient until we have ALL of our top players back. Until then, I’m afraid any argument stating Moyes should go, is always going to be seen as pessimistic at best.

I’m looking forward to the Hull game as I think it is a welcome break in the run of tough games and a chance for us to show what we can do. If it turns sour I fear we will leave ourselves open for a complete twatting in the derby, which would be disappointing but not enough for me to start throwing in the towel.

If we win (and ironically, looking at the treatment room across the park), we stand a very good chance of beating Liverpool, how many of you will care how we come across those 3 points?

James and everyone who thinks Bily is a winger; newsflash - he isnt.

He is used to playing in the old fashioned "inside left" position which is why he looks awful as a L winger..

Spot on Guy. James, Bily has not got pace which is why Russia play him in a more central role. Don’t get me wrong he will do a job outwide but everyone knows we are crying out for a couple of players with pace. The lack of movement in the team on Saturday was diabolical. When we had the ball the man in possession had very little options because there was no movement. A couple of whippets who are good on the ball would add a different dimension to our play.

He was bough to play wide-left = he’s a winger.

Fuck me James, you should apply for Guus Hiddink’s job - the logic he was bought to play wide-left MUST mean he is a wide-left player, try telling the Russian national team where he should be playing. Brilliant, ten out of ten.

OK, here we go, Andrey Arshavin, Joe Cole, Dirk Kuyt, James Milner, Nico Kranjcar. What do they all have in common? Answer, their natural position is not a ’winger’, but they play wide right or left because their style of play allows them to adapt to this position fairly easily. In fact, I can’t even think of 10 ’natural wingers’ in the Prem. The term winger doesn’t really apply in modern football anyway.

Bilyaletdinov is a wide player. So is Pienaar. Victor Anichebe was in arguably his best form in a Blue shirt playing wide right before his injury. And Osman has played right midfield for the last 2 seasons. They are ALL injured. How much cover should we have for each position? 3 players? 4?

Top class right backs are few and far between in the Premier League. Everton had some really good ones in years gone by such as Tommy Wright and Gary Stevens. I thought Ricketts was a good prospect at Bolton until his super header yesterday for Blackburn.

Seems like Boswinga is the best I have seen this season. Hutton looked good for Scotland then signed for Spurs and quickly became a back number. I would like to see Jags slot in there when he returns but with Yobo gone he will have to play central.

I know Jags didn’t impress when he first came in at right back but I am sure he could do better than what we have now although very few teams have left sided players with pace I still think Neill could handle the job pretty effectively and he passes better than Neville.

James, the last time I visited Goodison (Benfica), Yakubu was playing wide left, knocking crosses into the area for invisble men, and our Russian was occupying a position I would call inside left at best.

The closest thing we have to a winger lately is Baines.

Stewart. Osman is a central midfielder and Vic is a forward mate, not wide players.

Yes, defend Moyes; he has done a great job over the years but our squad is empty of wide players the balance in the squad is awful and that is the reason we are suffering. We have Cahill's unblemished career turning sour, our young right back getting stick and Osman has been knocked from pillar to post... and all because Moyes hardly buys natural wide players and plays these out of their natural position because of this.

When our right back gets hurt we have four or five players who can cover there, when our most vital two creative players get injured we replace them with right backs and forwards who couldn’t beat a man for skill even if you blinfolded the defender.
We are not cying out for a Davey Thomas as they dont exist anymore, but surely we can ask for a bit more pace and skill from somewhere. Even all the kids with the exception of Rodwell coming through all look like little Mark Ward-type grafters.

I cannot see any additions to the squad in January. I have a feeling that, when DK gets the NO, any money (and I know its not £78M!!!) but, any money that was ringfenced will be used in the summer, hiding the fact that we have no summer budget again.

Most of the posts above state the obvious lack of pace in all positions throughout the team. PACE COSTS MONEY. Ronaldo, Aguero, Pato, Ribery..... I know none of these players would even consider Everton but look how much pace in a player costs the buying team.

Agbonlahor is not even a particuarly good finisher but is lightning quick. Prices being branded around for him are approaching £20M!!!! PACE COSTS MONEY. Please, say it with me. This forum pleases me!!!!

Stuart Littler - spot on. Traditional wingers are largely dead, but most decent teams play ’false wingers’ - tricky players who can find space wide and cut in when needed.

The problem with Everton is as plain as the nose of your face - the entire midfield is made up of square pegs in round holes where no-one knows their job. Even if everyone is fit I’m not convinced you get a good balance from any 4.

Steve, with everybody fit & on form Pienaar, Rodwell, Arteta &
Bilyaletdinov make up pretty tasty sounding group to me. If some combination of Saha, Yak & Cahill played in front of that 4, I reckon it would be a match for most.

Yeah Paul, and I said "Victor Anichebe was in arguably his best form in a Blue shirt playing wide right before his injury. And Osman has played right midfield for the last 2 seasons". I did not say that they are natural wide players.

I have to agree that we should have more cover in wide areas - all Blues know this is the main area of our squad which is under strength. But if you’re discussing the subject, it is totally one sided to not even give mention to the fact that 4 players who’ve covered the wide positions in recent times are unavailable.

Steve, as Colin says, that 4 (although Fellain would be in before Rodwell for my money) could be potentially very good together. The problem is, take any one out, and it is unbalanced again.
