“The paper that speaks for the City”

I'd like to question the role of the Liverpool Echo in the whole Destination Kirkby farce. This once respected paper, that claims to speak for the City, has not once spoken out against DK despite its very foundations crumbling.
In fact, at the time of the call-in they expressed "disappointment" that the project might not happen, so, in effect, they were disappointed that something this City is most known for, Everton FC, may not be leaving after all! Speaks for the City, my backside!

Are you suggesting that a corporate media group have any other than the sole intention of producing honest journalism in a spirit of professional integrity? Outrageous, I tell you!
I stopped buying it long ago along with that other wragg the Daily Post.
Trinity Mirror publish the Liverpool Echo and Daily Post.
I believe Trinity Mirror also publish the Everton matchday programme and provide some content for the Everton website.
Perhaps their editorial policy is explained in there somewhere.
What a silly post, LE doesn’t just cover the inner city sanctum it covers all areas like Bootle, Knowsley, Huyton etc etc stop being so insular. This whole boundary debate which was started by KEIOC has completely backfired against the fans and club and made us all look stupid. I would rather have a stadium in Kirkby than at Speke Industrial estate!! We would all take a new world class Stadium near Hillside School/Bootle Stadium tomorrow which is walking distance from GP, but guess what people that too is not in Liverpool!!! The boundary ends when you cross Queens Drive in to Sefton, that just sums up how stupid this whole thing is, EFC fans have created the myth that has split us all, who needs the Echo’s support when we can kill ourselves from within. I urge all fans no matter Yes or No to DK to accept whatever comes out on Friday and support the team! COYB.
At what point was that rag respected?
The reason why the Echo haven’t spoken out about Kirkby is because they are moving to Greater Manchester themselves.

Alan, I’ve addressed a similar statement on another thread; KEIOC did not bring up the boundary issue, it was used in the media to dumb down the real issues surrounding Kirkby. I agree if a stadiium were to be built on the hillside school site, many of the arguments would simply disappear; but it isn’t being built there; the Kirkby proposal will simply consign the club to continued mediocrity. KEIOC wasn’t established to keep Everton at Goodison, it was established to stop the move to Kirkby which just happens to be 9 miles from the city centre; no other club will be further from their regional centre. If Kirkby began at the rotunda and a stadium were to be built there, outside the city, who would argue!
Liverpool Echo...printed in Bolton
I wouldn’t wipe my arse with that newspaper - its a desparate media company. I wont even take the free versions that the dolly birds hand out in supermarkets. its a dog awful newspaper and I cannot bring myself to read any of the tat.
The fact that they are heavily linked to both clubs will never help pressure groups like KEIOC. (Trinity Mirror produce all of the advertising media, programs, flyers etc. for the club - that makes it very difficult to express a counter opinion to those that pay the wages!).
Colin, surely KEIOC brought up the boundary problem as soon as they decided to call themselves KEIOC.
Alan Williams - totally agree. The boundaries are totally arbitrary, can be changed at the whim of central government and should have nothing to do with the debate about a new ground.
Regarding the ECHO well its simply don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
Secondly, in my opinion location does have a lot to do with EFC and potential new ground. We are a city club and should remain so. Why stop at Kirkby. If an out of town shopping centre was being built outside Southport or Carlisle and we were promised a free world class stadium even better than Kirkby then why not go there. After all whats in a name, we’re all true blues aren’t we an hour or two up the M6 won’t affect us will it
